Automation is important to all businesses, but even more so with an internet business because literally overnight your site and services could grow to unmanageable proportions! The less time you have to spend performing the small tasks that could be automated, the more time you'll have for marketing and promotion.

An automatic responder service is easily put to use to deliver repeated and targeted traffic to your website, to promote products and services, and to stay in touch with and thank past customers.

Your effort is performed once, yet repeated hands-off many times over. You simply write your messages into your account and provide a venue for customers and potential customers to subscribe. The system takes care of the rest.

In the case of a prospective customer who receives an automated message from you, they would click through the message and arrive at an offer on your site. Once they were carried through the order process, another automatic responder would kick in.

This second message in the 'new customer' series would send out a receipt to the customer as well as all necessary product information (when they can expect their order to arrive, how to download the product if it's a digital item, how to get support, etc.) This automated message should be followed up with in a day or two thanking your customer for their trust in your business and informing them of similar or related items they might enjoy.

Your auto-responder account works quite well in showcasing your products as well as in training prospective customers. This is precisely why an automatic responder is the perfect vehicle for conducting email courses. Once you've written the course, it's virtually a 'set it and forget it' style of training and promotion.

But there are other types of contact and training you can perform with your auto-responder account...

Some of my past clients have included authors, educational assistants and presentation specialists. Due to my association with them I was privy to witness all types of innovative uses for automatic responder accounts - projects I never would have considered myself as an online marketer.

Broadcast vs. Follow Up Email Auto-Responders

These accounts have been used to remind followers, fans and students about upcoming book signings, appearances, specialized training sessions, tests, and concerts. Documents, audios and other files can also be attached to an automated message as a supplement.

These types of messages would use the "broadcast" feature of an auto-responder, while other uses (such as an email course) would use the automated follow up message.

Think of it, you could have thousands of people studying your material simultaneously at varying points of the course and not even break a sweat!

Even large corporations use an automated responder service to stay in touch with their staff - whether in the same building or out in the field. New employees for instance might be set up to receive information every day about employee guidelines or training, while all employees receive notification of upcoming promotions, job opportunities or changes in standard business practices.
