More information on making the switch from Blogger to WordPress…

You likely will be slowed down a bit in the beginning learning WordPress (because the interface is a little different, but definately not difficult).

And you’re going to get really excited about all the extra features available to you as easy to install plugins…you could spend hours exploring those!

But likely the first thing you’ll want to do after the install (use a cPanel and Fantastico enabled host as in my previous post) is choose a design for your layout.

The process is super easy:

  1. Choose a layout.
  2. Download then upload the theme files.
  3. Click one button in WordPress.

Presto, a new design for your WordPress blog!

Choosing A Theme for Your WordPress blog

If you’re just after some flashy looks, don’t care about SEO, and feel comfortable cleaning up other’s code in PHP, the theme browser is a great place to go, but…

If search engine optimization and high rankings for your blog are your top concern, don’t go shopping for a ‘pretty’ theme in the browser. Yes, some of them are okay for blog SEO, and not all of them have wonky php, but to be sure you’ll want to grab a template that was created specifically for good looks, readability, and highly optimized for top search engine ranks.

In case you’re wondering why I haven’t switched yet it’s because I have some extra tweaks on my blog - so it’s not a one click switch - and I’ve been too busy writing to get my head in modifications. Soon, soon…

Okay, so check out Teli’s design at - optimized blog - the template she provides is easy to customize for personal taste and aesthetics.

You’ll need to not be afraid of CSS (there’s really nothing to changing a font size or color) and if you need help Teli answers promptly.

It’s the best site and ebook I’ve seen for WordPress tips to date.

There’s even a member’s only blog with extra help, news and advice.

I’ll talk more about plugins, categories and permalinks in my next post.

Until then, switch over and give your blog the home it deserves!
