Get and Keep Top Search Engine Positions
Posted on August 30, 2005
With the rising cost of advertising, (even on Google’s pay per click network), more website owners and internet marketers are working harder at ranking well in the search engines naturally (not paid per click or pay for placement).
‘Organic search positioning’ is another term you may have heard.
I want to talk about search engine positioning because I’ve been having a set of trouble lately and the topic is definately a hot one in my private reader’s emails…
Launching New Sites or Tweaking Old Sites
When you first launch a new (or decide to optimize an existing website), the first thing you want to do is keyword research.
Yes, I’m sure you think it’s dull and tedious (I’ve covered this before) but why would you want to optimize your pages and become #1 for search terms that no one ever types into the google box?
Keyword research is a pile of fun when you consider the difference it can make to your monthly income! It doesn’t matter if you make money with Adsense, ebook sales, or affiliate commissions. The difference between a #1 spot or a #10 spot for the right keywords will determine whether you spend your days at the beach or fighting off creditor calls.
Sadly, many of the organic placement search engine techniques you find on web pages are outdated or made by amateur self-proclaimed search engine experts.
There’s something you want to be really mindful of!
“Only take advice from people who have tried and tested a technique, and have seen results, before you follow their advice. Pick a source that is blowing smoke and you lose.”
Now, here I am blabbing about getting top search engine positions and you have no idea if I’ve ever been to the #1 spot…
Can you trust me?
I’m actually not going to teach you anything about search engine positioning, but I do want to give you free access to what works now, and introduce you to a trusted source. The highest page rank I’ve ever achieved is only a PR6, BUT a number of my high traffic, #1-in-the search-engines-pages actually only sport a PR4! Combined these #1 pages made me a decent amount of money in affiliate commissions. At least they used to…
At google’s last update I lost some of my #1 spots to hot-shot search engine optimization experts. Which also means I got hit in the wallet.
Money talks, so when I started seeing a lot less of it coming in, I blocked off days to learn more about getting back my #1 google placements.
“Even if you already have high placement, sooner or later you must put in some effort to maintain that placement and the only way to do that is with knowledge.”
Not a pile of knowledge, just some. (I’m going to pass a 90 page pdf at the end of this post to you from a search engine expert. In there you’ll find all the knowledge you need to move up the ranks. Now don’t panic, it’s not 90 pages of intense text - there are graphics and screen captures throughout the entire document to help you visualize each type of search engine optimization.)
It helps, when you’re doing search engine optimization, to have software tracking the results of your efforts. Use a spreadsheet package or create a table in your word processor with multiple columns. You can keep sloppy notes on tweaks you’ve made to your page, track your position once a month, and record your targeted keywords.
A few of my column headings are:
- targeted keywords (# of searches/month)
- page url
- my top 2 competitors
- google placement
- yahoo placement
- google page rank
- h1, h2, keywords top and bottom, title
If you’re still reading but not ‘getting’ this search engine related text, go straight away to the pdf I have for you. It explains everything in much finer detail - right from “Which Keywords Should I Target?” to “Hopping Over Your Competition…”
Brad Callen wrote this document, a search engine specialist, who has reached high demand #1 spots for himself and clients for quite some time. How long I’m not sure, but he’s an able teacher, and is highly endorsed by many other marketers I trust.
What I really appreciate here is that Brad is giving us this document to learn and grow with, even though he’s actually created software that makes the process foolproof. You’d think he’d have created a document that shows all the things you need to do to get to #1 which you can only do with his product, but such is not the case! He guides you through the entire process, using free tools and online resources.
Yes, he will explain in the pdf why his software makes the job easier, but if you just put into practice one technique Brad shows you, that you aren’t currently doing now, you will start to move in the search engines, with or without his product, and you got the information free of charge.
Do you need this knowledge? Oh yes.
Do you need the search engine optimization software? Well, in my opinion, yes you do, but only if you have 5 or more pages you want high ranking for in the search engines. If you have more than 5 pages, on one or more sites, or if you ever want to make it to #1 for a mid to high traffic search term, then fork over the $150 for SEO Elite. If you do buy the software, take it slow…there is a lot of power, with a lot of report tabs. I’ve just had this tool for a week, and only discovered 1/2 of what it can do for me. Take a few hours to discover what you can about your site and your competitor’s pages. Do your keyword homework, then get busy!
What A #1 Position Could Mean to Your Income
I now know that just one of my #1 spots - which slipped last month- was worth a consistent commission junction check of $300 a month. I miss that easy money this month! But by google’s next dance I’ll be back on top again now with what I’ve learned. That’s just one page, one position. When google updates again I’ll reveal my niche keyword and show you my placement - the phrase is only searched 1000 times per month but with no effort my #1 placement did bring in the grocery money…
I won’t keep you…
Grab the pdf, put a technique or two into practice and watch your results in the next google update - even sooner in yahoo. #1 position. If you click that link and you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed the document will open in a browser window. You can also right click on the link, select “Save Target As…” and save the document to your hard drive. Either way, make sure you save yourself a copy and feel free to share it where ever you like!
Here’s a few of the topics (my bits in brackets)…
- Optimize the wrong keywords and you’ll never see results…(He’ll show you how to pick a keyword)
- How Changing One Single Onpage Optimization Factor Can Boost Your Rankings by Over 350 Positions! (This is so simple!)
- The Secret to Getting Listed in Google In Under 24 Hours…Guaranteed! (Got a minute? Get a new site indexed!)
- How to SkyRocket Your Website to the Top of Google With Properly Planned Offpage Optimization.
…and more. 90 pages in fact. Take the PDF on Search Engine Positioning.

Hey Laura, how are you doing. You’re one smart and intelligent lady, I appreciate you. You’ve a lot of feminine style, thanks for sharing.
All the best to you with your continued success.
Laura,
You seem to know your stuff. Glad to see you’ve got tactics to pull it off.
As for SEO Elite, it was the best $150 I ever spent.
Good luck
Mark
Yes! Yes! and Yes again!
I have my #1 spots back and all thanks to Brad Callen. As soon as I post this comment I’m heading off to my inbox to send him a huge and gushy thank you note!
Now, I did promise to tell you what one of my #1 spots was on google and what it means to my monthly income…
So here’s one I’m happy to share with you and what it’s worth.
The spot is for the keywords ‘country lighting’.
Good Keywords tells me there’s only 1,000 searches per month for this term.
Google tells me there are 15,900,000 competing pages. Wow! That’s a lot of competition!
Now, without using Brad’s software for this search term, (I have his software but I didn’t use it for the explicit purpose that I wanted to test his methods in the free report - I always have to know I’m giving you something of value.), and only using his free advice, you’ll find that if you go to google and type ‘country lighting’ in my site is #1 and #2 spots again.
So, what’s the payoff? Well in this particular instance (I’m not pushing the sale too hard, just providing information), this particular page earns me about $300 per month. Not insane riches, but it pays our grocery bill…and yes, I do know that I could work it harder and earn more (next week I’ll update that page now that I have my rank back.)
And now that I’ve tasted the success of #1 on google again, I’m going to put into practice everything Brad tells me.
I suggest you do the same.
Grab that free search engine success pdf, read it, apply it, and if you can afford it, buy the best SEO software tool as well!
You won’t regret it.
Yours in success,
Laura Childs
Thanks for useful information.
Hey Laura,
A really big thank you for all your help. You really do go above and beyond with your help. Most of the so called gurus don’t and won’t (yes there are exceptions) go to the extent to help us novices the way you do. Thanks again for all the great information you provide.
John
Hi Laura, just from using the techniques you so kindly supply, i really am noticing a difference in my website, after months of trying different methods yours are the ones that I highly recommend, thanks again and take care sally
Thank you for this wonderful insight. I always appreciate seeing other experts confirm that I am on the right path. And, I enjoy adding new tidbits that open up new opportunities.
Laura,
I don’t know if you’ve read this, but I found it very interesting. Here’s the link: http://www.perrymarshall.com/adwords.
Hope it helps,
Your Friend,
Norm
Norm thanks for your comment and link.
I do agree that advertising with adwords campaigns, especially following Perry Marshall’s techniques, is a great way to get some traffic to your site. However, many online entrepreneurs - especially the start up businesses - can’t afford, or simply don’t want to, to advertise.
Of course, it’s just my choice, but I would rather work to generate and keep top search engines positions so that all my traffic is free. This keeps my customer aquisition costs down, and allows me more time, money and energy to devote to helping others.
Laura
p.s. To all: If you’re planning on paying for clicks and traffic, Perry Marshall really is the ‘go-to real deal’ on google advertising. If you just want to get your feet wet and get a lot of targeted traffic much cheaper than google supplies, check out enhance.com (it’s a great testing ground at pennies per click).
