Google’s New Back Door
Posted on August 22, 2005
I hope your summer has been both fun and profitable!
Over the summer I’ve been busy testing new tools (both free and paid) so you can expect to see a lot more reviews coming from me shortly…
But quickly today I want to show you the new way to get more of your web pages and blog posts listed and indexed in google quicker than the standard Add Url submission process…and no it doesn’t cost a cent more than 5 minutes of your time!
This technique is a ’spin off’ of the technique we used last year to be included in yahoo’s listing without the $299 inclusion fee.
Only this time, it’s google we’re after!
If your site is already listed in google…
Take 5 minutes and set this up anyway. This will ensure that google crawls your site more often and indexes your new pages and posts faster.
If your site is brand new…
This is a great way to get google to notice it. I guess you could call it a backdoor method because your site is being linked to from within google itself!
And even if you don’t have an RSS Feed or blog on your site…
Follow the instructions at the top of the page (link below), then click the No Feed link when prompted to learn how to add your html, asp or php pages to google.
Here’s the instruction page with screen captures so you can follow along with ease.
If you want to track the effectiveness to this technique, go to www.google.com and type in allinurl://yoursite.com The results will be a full listing of the pages google currently has listed. Wait 3-4 days after setting up your new google home page and perform the same search.

Hi followed your instructions to set up my home page on Google but it would not accept my RSS feed. I have a Typepad blog (several) and not one feed I entered was accepted. Kept saying feed not found. Works in other applications and feedreaders so I guess Google isn’t compatible with Typepad yet.
Denise, send me one of your feed urls by email (laura@smartzville.com) and I’ll check it out…
Did you try it without the http:// prefix as well?
Hi I am also finding google cant find my feed. My feed is from blogger.com I have tried with and without http://. Any pointers
Hi Graham!
Send me your feed url and I’ll follow up with google and get back to you okay?
Laura
Does this home page setup for google also work for yahoo as in using a my-yahoo page for quicker listings?
Sean Felker
The issue google seems to be having is one of rdf feeds. RSS and XML extensions appear to work fine and quickly. After testing Denise’s feed for a week I find that 50% of the time google does display the feed. Now 1/2 right is the same as 1/2 wrong so definately some work needs to be done on google’s end, but google is now more aware of each and every post Denise makes to her blog than they were before. Which only means more bot visits and more indexing!
Folks, get on this. It takes a few minutes of setup but could give you an extra boost in ranking. Well worth it in my opinion…

Sean, you are right on target with this thinking!
Google uses google home page…
Yahoo uses myyahoo…
We all had a boost getting indexed in yahoo quicker with myyahoo feed submission…now google appears to be allowing the same.
