Niche Market Soap Business?

I certainly enjoyed reading your guide to Niche Marketing, but I’m not certain that it fits my situation. Perhaps you can offer some insight to my uncertainty.

I am a handicapped woman who has been diligently searching for something I can do from home. After seeing a segment on a local television show of a woman and her daughter making soap at home, I became interested and began researching the subject. For the past month or so, I have been making and distributing my soap to family and friends to “test” for me.

It feels wonderful to finally find something that I can do at my own pace–I feel alive again!

Now my question–Is niche marketing an area where I can both sell my product and market books related to soapmaking and other areas of my farm life?

I would appreciate your input. I want to get started in the right direction and not waste valuable time running down the wrong road.

You may not know it, but you are in the perfect situation for this concept! Offering both to your website visitors - buy the product or buy the book - is the best case scenario (although all marketers won’t agree).

Visitors arrive at your site with an interest, they can’t say no, if they don’t want to pay the price, wait on the mail man, for a product they can get started right away by downloading your ‘recipes’ and instructions for a fee.

My only thought to offer you is to ‘crawl, walk, run’ - don’t try to offer too much, or create an instant empire, overnight.

I suggest having one focus - something different from so many other distributors of homemade soap - soap for problem skin for instance…I know for a fact that goat’s milk soap is great for excema, etc. You’d offer that product, plus one or two others addressing the soap for skin care (perhaps) problems, collect emails from your visitors so you can follow up with them…and offer your ’secret’ recipe book as well.

You’ve absolutly hit the nail on the head with your idea! But there’s more…everyone whose email you have collected as they come into or leave your site, they’ve given you their address so you know they are open to your knowledge and recommendations, upsell them! This means find a few more soap related products from other distributors (I can show you how to do this later) and offer those products via an email newsletter.

You’ll get a commission on every sale and you don’t have to worry about shipping, etc.
