Niche Marketing And Mass Marketing
Defying gravity…man if it could only be done. Do you realize the things we could do as human beings if we could defy the laws of gravity. We wouldn’t have to worry about slipping and falling out of a 10 story window. We’d just carefully navigate ourselves back to the ground. Sadly, this isn’t possible. Well, the same thing is true when it comes to Internet marketing. We can’t defy gravity. More specifically, we can’t defy some of the laws that are pretty much written in stone. What are these laws? I’m going to cover a few here.
The first one is something that so many marketers don’t get. You can’t sell something to somebody that they don’t want. I don’t care how great your sales page is. If the offer is something that the people you are targeting don’t care about, they are going to pass it up. Think about it. Do you really think there’s a market to sell 8 track tape players anymore? Maybe a few nostalgia freaks, but certainly not a mass market. So the first thing you need to do when marketing anything at all, whether it’s your product or an affiliate product, is to make sure people want it.
Another thing that many marketers don’t get is that just putting up a web site does not guarantee that your prospects are going to see it. With all the millions of web sites on the Internet, unless you actively promote your site, nobody is going to see it. And yet, I see so many people put up sites and expect the masses to come flocking to it. If it was that easy, everybody would be making a killing as a marketer. And it doesn’t matter if it’s your product or an affiliate product. Heck, with an affiliate link you have even more work to do. We’re talking about a URL that doesn’t even physically exist unless you promote it.
Finally, there is payment processing. You have got to find some way of collecting payments online, whether it be through Clickbank, PayPal, or your own merchant account. My first business, many years ago, I had people send me checks. Needless to say, I didn’t get many orders. Customers like the convenience of being able to pull out their credit card or pay via their PayPal account. This is one of the laws of Internet marketing today.
There are others, but these three should get you started. Sell what people want, actively promote your site and make sure you have a way to take payments online. These three things alone will give you a much better shot at actually succeeding as an Internet marketer.
