I just sent this note by personal email to Teli, of whom I know little about, except for her work, her business ethics and her writing style. Although it reads like a testimonial for her <a href="http://www.smartzville.com/datafeed-script.htm" rel="nofollow"><u>WordPress script</u></a> (because I have had such great success with it), I figured I'd share it here so that (a) we all remember to tell people how much we appreciate their work (I often forget this myself), and (b) to let my readers know that I hold her in very high regard.

----------

Teli:

Just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your awesome and fun script.

Personally I love working with it, because it's easy and versatile, and it's fun too! I feel like I'm shopping for others when I load up or check the posts and products added to my blog.

It was just two weeks after I registered and loaded up products on a brand new website that google gave me a PR4 on the home page and a bunch of lesser PRs on category pages. I'm waiting for the next google update before I assess how well I've done on positioning, but now I sit at 46 out of 1,040,000 results for my top level keyword - which isn't too shabby considering this is a brand new site.

AND, as if all that isn't great enough, I've been earning affiliate commissions on products sold on my site, plus being your affiliate, so heck, life is good all 'round.

I really just wanted to write this note to thank you for your work, for your support, and to let you know how valued you are. Sometimes I think we all forget to tell each other these things - we're too busy focusing on issues and problems, distrust, and lack of results. Come to think of it, that's another thing I appreciate about you - you are objective in your own writing without being negative. It's refreshing Teli and I'm proud to be aligned with you.

You do rock, keep up the great work.

Hey Laura,
I've been watching the development of the tag and ping launch and can see both sides of the argument.

I do believe that if Sean hadn't released this information on such a large scale, another marketer would have. He was just being a smart marketer in that respect.

However, it's unfortunate that many other marketers <em>will</em> use the techniques and information improperly to the detriment of everyone.

<blockquote>
The ‘nofollow’ tag is only a google tag. Yahoo, MSN and the others don’t recognize it.
</blockquote>

Yahoo! may not follow the rel="nofollow" attribute, but it does adhere to the nofollow robots meta tag (which is what Technorati and Del.icio.us currently have in place). It would not take much for the other social bookmarking/tagging sites to follow suit and nip backlink value in the bud.

I totally agree that tagging can be great, but with great power comes great responsibility.

Hi Laura!

As usual I really enjoy your articles :)

I just wanted to let you know that NewsMediaRelease.com has been totally overhauled, totally streamlined, totally pumped up with features including 4 different video formats you an use, podcasting and all kinds of features.
(look under the navigate menu)

And the BIG news is... it's now FREE!

The only pay service we have now is
distribution of media releases via SMS

Our goal is to generate the traffic that will showcase this new service.

Make sure and check out the site.

Hi Tate:

Just a few notes...

Thanks for writing back.

The 'nofollow' tag is only a google tag. Yahoo, MSN and the others don't recognize it.

It took google nearly a year to put the nofollow tag and word verification into place on blogspot (which is where most of the blog and pingers operated from). If it takes google that long, it will take these smaller sites longer.

I've been using tags for over a year now on a few other sites. On one site I had a PR4 on the home page on the next google update (which was only one week after site registration). I was pretty shocked, but no time to test the theory that it was due to tagging.

Anyway, stay in touch! It's great to hear from you!

Hi Laura,

I think it will reach the masses...today!

I'm subscribed to about 10 email marketing lists and every single one has been promoting Sean Wu's Tag and Ping. There is more hype about this than Blog and Ping.

Unbelievable. When irresponsible marketers start flooding these social bookmarking sites, it will force them to change the way they operate.

I would expect that the "no follow" will be implemented very soon after they figure out what's going on. Should be interesting to see what happens.
