There are some ways to help you to become a successful affiliate marketer even if you are only spending a few hours a week working at it.

The most obvious is that you must enjoy the Internet. Now this may seem ridiculous, but I know of people who started out with affiliate marketing who dislike the Internet. Worse than that – they are afraid of it. For you to be successful you must enjoy the whole experience, be curious about what is out there and how you can harness that to work for you.

You don’t have to invent the whole system, as that has already been done for us by someone else, thank Goodness. Many people have built the systems that make it all work, especially in the affiliate marketing field, so you don’t have to be particularly techi. Just be prepared to follow the system and don’t get fazed if it doesn’t do what you hope or expect it to do first time.

It can help later on if you are prepared to learn something about how it all works, but it is not essential. Many very successful Internet based businesses are run by people who do none of the technical stuff. They just hire people to do it for them, and there are plenty of those out there.

Time is really important, especially if you have a day job. I know people who get up at 6 a.m., do 2 hours of their own Internet work, work a full day and then work on the Internet again until midnight when they get home. Not all of us are so driven and not all of us are prepared to give up that amount of our lives.

Be honest with yourself about how many hours a week you can dedicate to your affiliate business. Whatever you decide your available time is, say 2 evenings a week + 6 hours at the weekend – you choose. It is more important to keep to that time on a regular basis than try to cram more hours in. Once you have made your timetable, try to stick to it.

Consistency is the key. Think about it as though you are keeping appointments with yourself. Put your allocated time in your diary and think of it as a commitment to yourself. Why I suggested the 10 hours above is because it is do-able for most people. However, we all have different habits and you should choose the times that fit in with your life whilst not interfering with it.

Ability to set your own goals helps towards your success. Remember – you are going to be your own master or mistress in this enterprise. There will be no boss or colleague to nag you or make demands on you. It is all up to you, so you need to have a certain amount of self-discipline to keep this all going over time.

Don’t forget that you do have to work hard at it. It is not a get rich quick strategy. Please don’t believe all the hype that is around on this. Even the most successful Internet business leaders have spent years and thousands of hours perfecting their products and services. However, the advantage of affiliate marketing is that you can jump onto their bandwagon. You can reap advantage from their expertise and investment.

Finally, there are two essential requirements to be successful with affiliate marketing, and they are patience and determination. As I have said, there are no instant millionaires with affiliate marketing, but there are many, many people who are making a comfortable additional income, and there are no limits to what can be achieved.

It always amazes me how some people want to make even the simplest task difficult. Or others want to make you think there is some trick or secret involved a given task. The easiest way to find high paying AdSense keywords is to let Google tell you.

After all, Google invented the AdSense marketing scenario, who better to ask. And they offer this information for free 24/7 with their External Keyword Tool. Google’s keyword tool will tell you how many searches, what the average CPC (cost per click) is, what the monthly average is, in both broad match and exact match scenarios.

That’s just about everything you need to know to determine the higher payouts for what search terms or keywords in a nutshell. This tool has been around for quite some time and should be your first go to spot for information on keywords. Keep in mind that the information is simply a guideline and may not be accurate down to the penny or absolute number of searches.

Based on my experience, the search numbers (times a search term is searched on) is pretty liberal in broad match. Broad match includes any search that may have those keywords, which may be too big of a catch all. I’ve seen a search term drop from 200,000 searches in broad term, to 30,000 searches in exact match. So it’s always a good idea to do searches both in broad match and exact match to get a feel for a realistic number of searches.

There is also speculation on how current and accurate the data is on the searches. That’s why it’s best to use this information as a guideline. It will show you enough information to make a determination on the value of search terms. And also consider that Google never stands still, they constantly change algorithms to try and improve the search experience for the users. So the data is in constant flux.

But the Google External Keyword Tool can tell you what you need to know to find the high paying AdSense keywords or search terms. It’s free, easy, and full of useful information. There are quite a few websites that want you to believe that this is secret information and very difficult to come by. Not true at all.

One of the most famous terms is Mesothelioma (that’s a form of cancer usually caused by exposure to asbestos or other harmful material in the workplace). The reason advertisers are willing to pay so much ($40 or more) is that a lawsuit can net a law firm millions of dollars. Other terms having anything to do with big dollar lawsuits also get bids up to $40 or more.

If you just think about what type of term or keyword can return large payouts, that’s another way to find high paying AdSense keywords. In fact most terms that have a lot of competition, involve a high dollar return, are naturally going to be high cost to the advertiser. And these terms will pay more to the AdSense website owner when they get clicked on by a visitor.

So if you look for the high return business areas like mortgages, loans, lawsuits, insurance, and etc. you’ll also find the high paying AdSense keywords. Google’s External Keyword tool will help you narrow it down to the popularity of the search terms and other important details.

But just like the advertisers drive up the price of the search term or keyword, the competition on the number of websites trying to capitalize on the high paying terms is greater too. So you shoud also determine the amount of web pages that have that term (broad match) or even optimized for the term (exact match – use quotes on the term for exact match).

There are software tools out there that can find the high paying AdSense keywords and also show you the competition for those terms in one place. The cost ranges from $100 to $400, or monthly fees from $40 to $100 if website based rather than standalone applications. But it’s not a bad idea to start off learning how to do it manually and although it does take a little longer, it’s just as effective.

There’s a whole lot more to the AdSense Website business model besides the amount of payout per click. Doing proper keyword research to determine revenue should be the first step. But there are a few other important aspects that you need to understand and implement to be successful.

Here’s a simple formula you can use when writing ad copy. It’s broken down into four elements and each element has a very important job. Each element on its own tackles a critical part of the final sale. And the combined element pulls everything together as it should be to ensure a winning ad or great ad copy.

ATTENTION:

The first element is attention. This is the headline and it should be written to grab attention and not to close the sale. Rarely can you close the sale with just the headline so don’t try.

INTEREST:

After you grab their attention interest is the next element. You want to reach people with interest in what you are offering. Your ad copy needs to stimulate interest. This is most commonly accomplished by describing your product or service as something that fills a need or solved a problem or makes life easier etc.

DESIRE:

This is a very important part of your ad copy because the desire part is what really tugs on the emotional heartstrings of the buyer. It is here that you provide copy that supports how by using your product or service that the buyer will get the things they are looking for.

ACTION:

The last elements if action. This is where most copy writers really mess it all up. They are afraid to ask for the sale! Never be afraid to ask for the sale. Always remember that people are looking for what you offer. There are millions of niche markets. Someone someone somewhere wants exactly what you offer. And unless you ask for the sale you are never going to get it.

Yet another Matt Cutts video. This one talks about how Google ranks (and passes ranks to, from and throughout) dyanmically generated web pages versus static urls. Matt also briefly discuses the use of parameters and session IDs – the do and do not – to using them. This was a huge concern of mine when I first started setting up to make money with my ebay affiliate stores. I was a little worried that Google would never index or pass rank to those pages.

Even though the ebay affiliate script programmer assured me that my pages would be indexed, the latest Google update was what really convinced me. Matt’s video explains why they get indexed and now have page rank.

NOTE: There’s a huge hint in this video about making your dynamic pages appear to be static pages to the googlebot. This is something I’ve been preaching to people for the past two years and is one of the most often overlooked feature of WordPress to the uninitiated – permalink structure.

The latter part of this video Matt discusses geo-targeting sites (something that’s been very hot this past 12 months) and whether Google penalizes those sites as the varying bots may consider these sites to be cloaked (a black-hat no-no). If you have a site that serves up geo-targeted content and you’re concerned that you’re being sandboxed or black-listed, Matt tells you how to fix the communication problem between your content and the googlebot in the last two minutes.

If you’re still confused over cloaking, parameters and google – jump into this next video around the 2 minutes 30 seconds mark.

Finally, if you have any idea or personal preferance to share on the Ginger vs. Marianne selection, leave me a note would you? (Watch the video to make sense of that question if you can! Careful though, you’ll be showing your age!)

’till later,

I’ve talked to you about Matt Cutts a few months back. You remember don’t you, I sent you to his blog to sift through all the highly geek techniques to optimizing your website for search engine traffic.

I know, I know. A lot of people hated that. The trouble is it’s often painful to read specialized copy, when there’s a lot of it, in a language you may not be comfortable with. The ‘geek-speak’.

But lately Matt’s been coming out with some videos for webmasters who are working towards higher ranks for their sites in google. These videos are short, easy to understand, and so much faster than skimming for tidbits on a text based blog.

Let me give you one example. This video is titled “The Qualities of a Good Site” from google’s perspective as well as your target customer’s perspective. It has moments of ‘basic stuff’, but all in all who doesn’t have 6 minutes to hear what google thinks?

Thematic search is finally here.

The SEO experts (those beloved geeks still working in the trenches and not the SEO experts that are involved in high profile marketing) – have been talking about this for well over a year now.

We all knew it was coming right? And we’ve all been making steady and consistent changes to the way we write and publish content, correct?

No, you say?

Well, I’ll let you in on my secret then, since (in this regard) you’re one of the underachievers in preparation for the new Google.

I haven’t done much to prepare either!

But we’ll be okay…here’s why:

The buzzword is Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI), it’s the new part of both Google and AltaVista’s algorithm.

If you’ve been watching, your positioning in Google and AltaVista’s results have been ebbing and swaying as all this is sorted out. And even though new pages on your site might be indexed and included (and even get top ranks) you’ll find no google PR showing up in your browser’s toolbar (yet).

It boils down to this, and I’m trying to keep it simple because I know you don’t want to read a bunch of geek-speak and formulas…

LSI is similar to artificial intelligence.

LSI scans and evaluates your entire page looking for both the most relevant keywords for result positioning, as well as related keywords.

LSI also scans and assesses your entire site content for relevancy between the pages (your site’s overall theme).

LSI gives higher ranking to pages that have many words in common (i.e., semantically close), and lower ranking to pages with few words in common.

Top Tip for Pleasing the New Algorithm

When working on your website content write for your readers first and you’ll find that your page will naturally contain the synonyms, antonyms, variations, and other related words. You can later go back over the content and edit further for semantically related phrases.

Other Thematic Tips:

Instead of starting your page with your primary keyword, start with a modifier or non-keyword instead.

Practice keyword stemming. Plural, singular, prefixed and suffixed variations of your keyword.

Mix up your in-site navigational link text.

Keep your page content related to your site’s overall theme, but unique in content.

Use synonyms and antonyms and descriptive related text in your copy.

If you’re wondering how to uncover some of the semantic phrases for your future website content start first with your favorite keyword research tool. You’ll get back a list of related keyword phrases that contain your primary keyword.

For instance my standard keyword research results for ‘rustic lighting’ are:

rustic lighting fixture

rustic outdoor lighting

rustic bathroom lighting

rustic cabin lighting

rustic track lighting

Just remember standard keyword research is great for stemming and link text but will do you little good for modifiers or semantics. For those terms I head over to the free ‘cluster search’ tool at and find some thematic words I might include in my content:

The results give me some great ideas for semantic, modifier, or thematic words.

furniture

antler

lodge

log

free shipping

western

country

outdoor

ceiling

floor lamps

…all phrases served up by this MSN beta tool, but that I know both Google and AltaVista want to see on my site (if my entire site was about rustic lighting), or on my page (if my site was about decor and my page was about rustic lighting).

Now, this is why you and I are ‘set’ for the changes over at Google and AltaVista

Because we’ve been writing to our readers in a manner that serves them. Our sites are themed on a broad topic and our pages are focused and unique on just one aspect of that topic. Given that, we shouldn’t lose our rank and positioning. But if you have lost some of your top results, it’s time to do a little semantic keyword research.

“The ultimate goal of LSI is to reward pages that are well written and that have genuine value to the searcher. With LSI, using a good keyword in the wrong context, will get you a lower relevance ranking. This means that site developers will no longer be able to score high search placements simply by loading sites with desirable keywords or a multitude of links.” –JOHN ALEXANDER, searchengineworkshops.com

Feel free to post any questions or comments about latent semantic indexing, search engine algorithms, thematic search, or keyword phrases below. I’ll do my best to answer in a way that makes sense, as will (I hope) other SEO experts who happen by here.

See you at the top of the search engines!

p.s. John Alexander (quoted above) uses OptiRanker (click it to check it out) to grab his lists of supporting, descriptive words that a search engine believes are important to your primary keywords. The average search takes 3-5 minutes. OptiRanker is a paid monthly service at $49.95 and is not for the budget minded entrepreneur – of course this tool does much more than simply deliver semantic phrases.

Affiliate marketing been in the Internet industry for rather sometime now and it’s one of the most popular tools around employed by several online entrepreneurs nowadays. It’s a capital pick for those who would like to put up an online business quick and inexpensively. Even so, there’s still a large amount of the population who acknowledges a little or still zero about it. And most of the people who have barely discovered this business typically assume that they can well make big money out of it. Well, they are definitely wrong.

To be successful in affiliate marketing business is not an leisurely project and it will never occur overnight. It’s simply like an in progress assignment where you want to check and try several advertising strategies and tactics. This could even call for you to sign-up with various affiliate programs just to find which merchants performs all right.

Some other misconception that expect to gain a lot if they place all but 20 affiliated banners on exactly one niche. Well it won’t actually work the way you believe it would since once your site is overflowing with too several banners, it will appear like a link farm and visitors will not be curious and won’t even bother clicking on any of those banners. So if you actually prefer to promote several affiliate programs in your website, make sure that they swing with the theme and subject from the rest of the articles on your niche. Keep in mind that three to four affiliated links in your site are decent, depending on the size of the web page.

There is as well some who consider that if they add affiliate materials to their site, they can get sales at once. Possibly they simply don’t know that affiliate marketing is totally about advertising. Whenever there’s no traffic hitting your site, how could you expect to acquire any sales? Recall that the to a greater extent you advertise your affiliate link or the site where the affiliate links are placed, the more clickthru’s these links are likely to receive.

If you would like to be involved with or you’ve already joined an affiliate program, but you have the above misconceptions regarding affiliate marketing, then, you might need a mentor to help you work where to start out and what to do ready to succeed.

In the dictionary, the word mentor is defined as a wise and trusted instructor or counselor. Generally, these individuals are experts in the subject area they are into. They can give skillful advice and direction as well as supervision to another individual. So when we say affiliate marketing mentors, they are experienced counselors that have made affiliate marketing their specialty. Affiliate marketing mentors can be those persons that have already been successful in affiliate marketing and are always willing to share their experienced-based knowledge from the viewpoint of both the affiliates and the web merchants. And that’s the reason why we come up with this page. It is aimed to give you the stuffs that affiliate mentors should possess and follow and why do they need these things.

Of course, it’s beneficial for an affiliate marketing mentor to live and utilize many theories and generalities regarding your business but there’s nothing more helpful and effective than telling the client what works today and what are the things that could probably work in the future and if the trend changes. As a mentor, you should be one of the sources of knowledge for your client and the first one to teach them on how to generate more affiliate income. You too, need to be knowledgeable and equipped with the keys to success for affiliate marketers as well as for merchants. And you should guide your clients as they try to do the things that can help boost their profit because once they do well in that business, it can be counted as one of your great achievements. This also makes you a successful mentor.

There are some articles on affiliate marketing that says, in order to be triumphant in affiliate marketing business, you need to encompass and develop these traits: persistence, patience and thirst for knowledge. And as a mentor, it is your job to help your clients take in these traits within themselves. Once they’ve already developed the abovementioned character, it’ll be very easy for you to explain to them that attaining success in affiliate marketing requires sweat, blood and of course, hefty time commitment. These traits will also teach them not to give up.

Furthermore, before you coach your client to be expert in SEO, link exchanges, email marketing, newsletter marketing, reciprocal exchanges and advertising in forums, you should first become expert on these fields. They’ll sure find it hard to learn these things alone and without supervision from the one who knows best. So be sure that you are knowledgeable on these things before you accept any invitation to be a mentor. Yes, being a mentor is way harder than succeeding in affiliate marketing but this task is very rewarding especially if your client become victorious. The failure of your client is your failure too so you must do your very best to be able to bring your client on tour to success. Again, it is never an easy task and there’s nothing you’ll be able to do about it. After all, that’s what affiliate marketing mentors are for.

Recently I was reviewing this marketing tactic that I had never fully utilized before… LinkedIn. I’ve been getting an absolute TON of leads by means of article marketing, video marketing, and social bookmarking, but I’ve pretty much steered clear of this social network, because I didn’t really identify with it at all…

…until I heard of this guy named ‘Larry Beacham, The King Of LinkedIn’. He’s got upwards of 40+ leads per day at no cost using this little known marketing approach. In fact, to this date I’ve never heard of anyone else who has somewhat understood how to capture the amazing group of leads that exist from this one resource alone. So here’s what I have for you… I wanted to share some of the most important points that I got from this webinar.

1. LinkedIn is a SOCIAL NETWORK, not somewhere to go and spam the entire universe with business offers. People on LinkedIn are there to meet business oriented people and GROW RELATIONSHIPS. So your initial goal isn’t to sell something, it’s to get to know like minded business people.

2. LinkedIn has some of the most entrepreneurial people in THE WORLD who are tied to the network. Just knowing this one point convinced me I had to learn everything there was to know about this strategy. The average income of LinkedIn users is $110,000 per year. Compare that to the average USA income of $31,410 per year. Just that fact alone means that LinkedIn subscribers are more qualified to own and operate their own business.

3. LinkedIn can be shared with my own personal Article Marketing Strategy. I learned that one of the most important things to do on LinkedIn is to submit quality articles to their directories, giving away valuable advice. Well, since I do that anyways, it makes sense to add LinkedIn to my strategy base, for increased exposure.

Overall, I learned that this is a cool, simple strategy that you can IMMEDIATELY use to include professional contacts to your Rolodex of MLM leads. If you’re like most people and you don’t have thousands of dollars to spend on pay per click and other paid advertisements, I would highly encourage you to check this strategy out. The webinar is about 70 minutes long, and it is JAM PACKED with value.
