There’s a war going on out there … It’s brutal, it’s relentless and, like all wars, there’s always the potential for casualties.

Let’s set the scene. At any given time, legions of professional emarketers gaze intently at their target audience through the finely-tuned sights of their opt-in mailing list.

With their trigger finger poised in eager anticipation, they unleash their precious marketing payload with laser-sharp accuracy towards their quarry.

The binary hordes are released – every email bearing news of compelling ‘value propositions’. Each one has a specific destination, a destiny to be fulfilled and an outcome to be realised.

Meanwhile, dug deep in their bunkers, IT Managers and IT Administrators await … They know their ‘enemy’ well and keep their primary defences in a high state of alert. Together with sophisticated filtering software to protect their networks, the technical teams form a formidable line of defence against the onslaught of both inbound and outbound email. After all, email’s just email, right?

No matter. With strategies, tactics and policies firmly in place, mailing lists primed and mail servers ‘locked down’ – so it begins.

Friendly Fire

Incredibly, the adversaries described above are actually on the same side and are simply playing out a scenario that is very common within many businesses.

On one side are the emarketers along with their comrades-in-arms – the sales teams, while the other side is composed of those charged with maintaining the overall well-being of the company IT infrastructure.

And this, despite the fact that – according to a recent survey by email marketing specialists, emedia, less than a fifth of IT managers actually declared any hostility towards email as a mass marketing medium. In fact,43% of IT Managers actually felt positive about it!

Flak From All Sides

As if this wasn’t enough for emarketers to deal with, they’ll frequently be involved in a two-way tussle with the sales effort for primacy in who is the dominant dynamic in driving company revenue streams.

A sales force will rightly lay claim to persistent, highly-focused endeavour emanating from slogan-filled hives of ‘sharp end’, ‘front line’ activity. Don’t marketers, by comparison, sit around sipping cappucino while admiring their latest creation?

Marketers on the other hand, will justifiably label themselves as the company ‘think tank’. A breeding ground where innovative persuasion techniques are born and nurtured that identify, reach and motivate prospects into becoming warm leads. Doesn’t this just leave sales with the ‘straightforward’ task of closing the deal?

All Together Now

It’s clear that there’s a disconnect between the wants and needs of the sales and marketing effort (ie. those who create, define and close business opportunities) compared to the vital role played by those who keep company networks secure and available.

This imposes a considerable challenge to the folks who control internal operations – after all, isn’t outbound email messaging as mission critical as IT systems security?

Business success can be gauged in a number of different ways but ultimately a balance sheet will reveal everything you need to know. To this end, all parties – sales, marketing AND IT – need to work together to produce a mutually desireable outcome which means a collaborative approach to emarketing delivery.

Delivery Best Practice

There is evidence to suggest that marketers do not currently seek advice from their own IT department on how email delivery can be assured.

In fact, the following statistics make for sobering reading when you consider that, according to emedia’s survey 80% of IT departments will filter out messages with trigger words, 64% will not allow content such as images, multimedia files, active script or hidden text while 75% employ blacklists/whitelists and 51% use Sender ID or Sender Policy Framework (SPF).

Furthermore, it was discovered that a tiny minority of IT systems (just 3%) have no form of spam filtering at all. For an emarketer, this represents an extremely small window of opportunity indeed regardless of the size of their mailing list.

Finally, only 3% of IT Managers felt that campaigns were delivered by the IT and Marketing departments together, even though 8% of marketing respondents claimed they were.

This is where emarketers need to get cute. Without meaningful dialogue with their IT people they are, to all intents and purposes, doing little more than generating internal ‘spam’.

Meaningful questions need to be asked between all parties however. Such as, Who’s responsible for the email campaigns? How is spam dealt with? How are blocked emails managed? And what considerations need to be made to accommodate modern, content-rich email such as video?

And while the salespeople may feel like casual observers in all this, it’s entirely in their interests that the process of email delivery is as smooth and seamless as possible.

It’s always good to have options

With emedia’s findings pointing to the fact that only 15% of email marketing campaigns are currently outsourced to specialists, it’s clear that marketing, sales and IT departments would greatly benefit by adopting a best practice approach by working together rather than against each other.

If this isn’t practical, then serious considerations should be given to outsourcing emarketing campaigns to specialist email marketing companies who are experts in this niche area. That way, significant, tangible and measureable results can be achieved – all without a single shot being fired!

Google has recently added social search to its ever expanding list of Google labs experiments, and this is good news for on-line businesses that are interested in niche marketing.

For those who are familiar with, and rely upon, search engine optimization strategies, social search will come as a welcome addition to your SEO toolkit.

Search engine optimization was once defined by paid and organic search parameters. However, as the Internet has evolved, newer search platforms have become crucial Internet marketing tools. These tools include familiar properties such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking sites.

Here are but two examples of how newer search platforms are making their presence felt.

Surprising to some, YouTube is currently ranked as the number two search engine on the Internet. The sheer volume of videos served up each month by YouTube accounts for this high ranking.

In addition, both Google and Bing recently announced that they will be indexing – and thus displaying in search results – Twitter posts (tweets), leading many online business owners to rush towards having a comprehensive “Twitter plan” in place as soon as possible.

It is because of the emergence, and prominence, of these newer search platforms, that “social search” is being developed. Indeed, these recent developments have many ‘Net watchers speculating about whether social networking will be the next big thing in online niche marketing.

That brings us back to Google and their latest experiment.

At the Web 2.0 Summit (2009) Marissa Mayer announced latest experimental feature offered by Google, noting that it is aimed at improving the user’s search results by including web pages created by that user’s social connections.

This is how Marissa Mayer describes this new experimental lab:

“Due to the ever-increasing popularity of social networks, we’ve been thinking about how your social network could influence and improve your search results. Social Search does just that by surfacing content in your search results that is written by your friends or people you follow. That way, you get the best resources from the web overall, plus the best results (blogs, reviews, travelogues) that are relevant to you, since they were written by people you know. Social Search will be launching soon on Google Experimental and Google Labs.”

In short, social search is all about creating greater relevancy to the individual user who is conducting a search through Google.

That’s great for the individual user. But, what about the online marketer who is trying to gain a better foothold in his or her niche? Well, this new feature could prove to be a boom for the savvy niche marketer that is already mining the online social networks.

Business owners who have established followings on Facebook, Friend Feed, Twitter, YouTube, and similar sites will now be able to search targeted key phrases on Google and monitor the buzz (or lack thereof) surrounding their company and/or products. Trend spotters will be able to identify emerging trends to capitalize upon, or potential problems that need quick remedies.

Just think what this means to the online niche marketer: real-time, direct access to the thoughts, posts, and musings of those in your social (and for the smart marketer, that can be read as “business”) networks.

So how does the feature currently work? Let me state right off the top that, due to issues relating to privacy, social search is set-up as an opt-in feature, and is directly connected through Google Profiles and Gmail. So, to participate, you’ll first need a Google account.

After you’ve set up your account, you add links from your Twitter, Friend Feed, and similar pages, to your Google profile. Google will then explore those links to identify your followers and the content they produce; content derived from their blogs, photo albums, videos, and reviews.

Then, the next time you are searching at Google, if your search query returns useful results from your social connections, Google will display the results at the bottom of the search results pages.

To see how this feature works, log into your Google account, and then type your query at Google.com. If you don’t see a OneBox at the bottom of the search results pages, click on “Search Options” and select “Social” to include the results to your social circle.

Now, you may be wondering just who is included in this new social network. A Google help center page tells us that the network includes:

• people you are connected to through social services (such as Twitter or Friend Feed)

• people that you have listed in your Google profile

• people in your Gmail (or Google Talk) chat list

• People in your Friends, Family, and Coworkers contact groups for Google

In addition, Google Reader subscriptions can be added, so it is now easier to search Google Reader.

Remember, these connections are on an opt-in basis, and you can include, or exclude, any group or social service that you wish. If you do not opt-in, your social networks will not be included, and you will not see their content in your search results.

So, have a look at this new experimental feature. Get good at using it, because it is likely that your competitors will as well.

Defying gravity…man if it could only be done. Do you realize the things we could do as human beings if we could defy the laws of gravity. We wouldn’t have to worry about slipping and falling out of a 10 story window. We’d just carefully navigate ourselves back to the ground. Sadly, this isn’t possible. Well, the same thing is true when it comes to Internet marketing. We can’t defy gravity. More specifically, we can’t defy some of the laws that are pretty much written in stone. What are these laws? I’m going to cover a few here.

The first one is something that so many marketers don’t get. You can’t sell something to somebody that they don’t want. I don’t care how great your sales page is. If the offer is something that the people you are targeting don’t care about, they are going to pass it up. Think about it. Do you really think there’s a market to sell 8 track tape players anymore? Maybe a few nostalgia freaks, but certainly not a mass market. So the first thing you need to do when marketing anything at all, whether it’s your product or an affiliate product, is to make sure people want it.

Another thing that many marketers don’t get is that just putting up a web site does not guarantee that your prospects are going to see it. With all the millions of web sites on the Internet, unless you actively promote your site, nobody is going to see it. And yet, I see so many people put up sites and expect the masses to come flocking to it. If it was that easy, everybody would be making a killing as a marketer. And it doesn’t matter if it’s your product or an affiliate product. Heck, with an affiliate link you have even more work to do. We’re talking about a URL that doesn’t even physically exist unless you promote it.

Finally, there is payment processing. You have got to find some way of collecting payments online, whether it be through Clickbank, PayPal, or your own merchant account. My first business, many years ago, I had people send me checks. Needless to say, I didn’t get many orders. Customers like the convenience of being able to pull out their credit card or pay via their PayPal account. This is one of the laws of Internet marketing today.

There are others, but these three should get you started. Sell what people want, actively promote your site and make sure you have a way to take payments online. These three things alone will give you a much better shot at actually succeeding as an Internet marketer.

To YOUR Success, Steven Wagenheim

Creating your own niche affiliate marketing program can be easier than you think!

Niche marketing is simple: fulfilling a special need for a product or service that no one seems to be meeting yet. People don’t understand niche marketing, so they don’t fully use it to their advantage.

Your website may already be based on a broad niche market. Regardless of your niche, the more you narrow it down, the more potential you have for a hefty profit.

In the beginning you may want to select a large niche and then narrow it down by picking a couple of sub-niches. Narrowing your focus, or becoming an “expert” in a sub-specialty, will help you to meet specific needs that your customers may have previously had difficulty meeting on their own.

Targeted niche marketing allows you to focus in on a specific group that has a high demand for your product. When someone is looking for a particular item, they are usually first looking for information about the item and then where to buy.

Locating your target market is the key step in being able to provide potential customers what they are looking for. That could equate to substantially more money and far less work for you.

Any of your own interests could potentially provide a niche market. Maybe you could get the attention of a niche group with one of your own special interests. For example, internet marketers, direct mail, and mail order markets often write books on unique topics. On the internet these items are sold as e-zines or e-books.

Once you have found a profitable niche, determine what your business plan will be for your niche marketing program. Some folks prefer to sell products that others make, but they are related to their niche. This can be accomplished with affiliate marketing, a product can be advertised on their site, and then the potential buyer is provided a link which takes them to the vendor’s site. If the potential buyer makes a purchase the affiliate marketer receives a commission check directly from the vendor.

Some marketers would rather develop their own products.

By selling a product you have made yourself, you won’t have to share the profit with a wholesaler or manufacturer. The only way to guarantee high on-line profitability, whether you are a seasoned internet marketer or a novice to the whole “make money on-line thing, is to establish your own niche affiliate marketing program with a network of highly targeted niche websites.

I’ve read here that get paid to write web sites like HubPages and Associated Content are a good way to build a portfolio but earning money through AdSense that way is slow. If I just use my own blog(s), or else combine my blog(s) with the write for pay sites, what’s the best strategy?

Should I make several blogs on the same topic to increase hits to the same AdSense ads?

Should I stick to just blogs, or do Iuse HubPages (or another) as well?

Is there any blogsite there that allows AdSense besides Blogger?

How many articles per day and how many hits per day do I need to get to receive a paycheck every month or every two months?

What if I find a niche topic that I like? Can I realistically expect to make money from it just because I’m knowledgeable in it and can write about it? Or is the market simply dominated by specific subjects?

Traffic is the key to earn from AdSense. More traffic you get more you will earn. Also Ad Placement and keywords matters too.

Having your own sites would be better than blogs if you thinking long term. because you can place ads where ever you wants.

Its making too many blogs would be useless if you don’t have traffic for them.

As far as I know Blogger is the only free blog site which let you use AdSense.

Well its hard to say how much content you need. Again it depends on Ad Placement , Quality of traffic and your content.
