Affiliate marketing is a process where the merchant will pay a portion of their sales revenue to an affiliate if the sale is result of the affiliate’s promotion to the products and services offered by the merchant.

This is one of the fastest growing industries because it’s cost efficient and quantifiable for both the affiliate and the merchant. Other players can profit as well, such as the affiliate network or the affiliate solutions provider.

The best benefit for the merchant is the fact that he will gain opportunities to advertise his products to a much larger market, therefore increasing his chances to earn. The more affiliates the merchant obtains, the more sales he can expect.

With the merchant having affiliates market his products and services, he will save himself time, effort, and money in looking for markets as well as customers. The affiliate marketer will benefit from each customer that clinks on the link in his website and who actually purchases a product from the merchant.

If you have wanted to join the growing legion of affiliate marketers and have an unlimited potential for income, simply follow these 3 steps to start an effective affiliate marketing program.

Identify something that interests you or you feel very passionate about. Then, focus on a specific area you know a lot about, as this will help you bring out your best and give your visitors who are possible buyers a demonstration of your expert in this field. This way, you’ll gain their trust and encourage them to buy the products that you endorse.

Search for merchants and products or services that are related to your interest then create a web site with top level domain names and very reliable hosting. When you choose the products for your web site, you need to consider the commission structure and the conversion rate.

There are many different affiliate networks and affiliate solution providers where you can obtain the information on most profitable products and which merchants pay the best. Take your time – and be sure you choose the right one.

Now, you are ready to promote. You’ve chosen everything you need and even created your very own website. You’ll need to be creative, flexible, and willing to embrace new ideas. By this stage, you’ll be well on your way to making more money than you ever imagined – and enjoying every minute of it.

Even though affiliate marketing is an excellent way to earn money, there are several pitfalls that you’ll need to be aware of. As long as people have been earning money, people have also tried to figure out how to earn more by doing a lot less.

All you need to do is a quick online search for “work from home” or “making easy money”. You’ll instantly find millions of websites, simply click on a few and you’ll notice that they all start off the same. You’ll see a guy with a big house and a lot of money saying if you sign up, this could be you – how far from the truth!

The only way you can earn a good, stable income is to put in the hard work it takes. Before you join any affiliate program, you need to do the proper research. That’s one of the best benefits of the internet – finding the information you need.

All you need to do is search for the name of the affiliate program that your intested in, adding the word scam to it and see what pops up. You should also join some work from home forums, and don’t be afraid to ask the right questions.

There are a few ways that you can tell what program is most likely a scam. If a program doesn’t tell you their compensation plan unless you sign up, watch out. A lot of programs won’t tell you what you’ll be doing unless you buy a kit for a set price.

With any program, there should always be 100% free disclosure. You’ll need to know what you are going to be doing before you even start. If a program doesn’t tell you what you are going to be doing or if you have to pay money first, you should avoid it.

Affiliate marketing is all about getting paid for selling products you don’t own and not going to jail for it. Someone else goes through all of the trouble to develop software programs, service, or digital content products. They’ll do all the work then you collect the money!

Affiliate marketing is a revenue sharing arrangement between the product developer, known as the affiliate merchant, and the affiliate marketer who is anyone that’s willing to promote the sale of product by advertising the product using any type of legal means available.

The relationship will allow the affiliate merchant to grow their revenue by paying only for the advertising that results in a sale. The affiliate marketer will profit by making a percentage on a sale that he does not have to manage after the sale.

Getting Paid

Getting paid all depends upon how the affiliate program is set up. Some merchants will run their own affiliate program. They’ll have special types of software that assigns each affiliate marketer a special link that’s used in promoting the product.

The software will track sales of every marketer and the merchant will pay the commission on a periodic basis using either PayPal or another method of payment.

Selecting Products or Services

Your income is directly tied to how well your selected product or service sells, and the size of the commission you earn, which makes it very important that you choose carefully when it comes to choosing the affiliate merchant you’ll be partnering with.

Choose programs that you aren’t embarrassed to promote and programs that you’ll feel comfortable recommending to your family and friends if they were to ask you about it.

You’ll do much better if you promote products that you fully understand and are already familiar with. This way, you’ll be able to write better ads without having to strain yourself coming up with the right things to say.

You should only promote products and services for companies who have gone through the trouble to provide you with training programs and sales aids such as banners and other marketing materials that you can either use directly or model the one you own after.

Be on the lookout for programs with commission rates no less than 50%. You should give preference to programs that pay commission on multiple levels, which means you’ll also have to earn commissions on sales made by people who buy the products through your link then go on and become affiliates themselves later on.

Have you ever heard or read the phrase “multiple streams of income” before?

Do you know what this phrase means?

For many businessmen, creating multiple streams of income online or offline is one way of securing themselves as well as their businesses in the future. They also believe that it can also save them from the so-called famine effect in the business industry.

Once you are engaged in affiliate marketing business, it is advisable if you have multiple streams of affiliate marketing income so that if one of those income streams vanished, it will not upset you the way losing your sole stream would. If you depend on just one source of income and this single stream has been downsized or has lain off, you’ll surely find yourself bankrupted and hopeless. Try to ask the most successful online entrepreneurs, and you?ll discover that they have established multiple streams of online income.

There is a businessman that said and attested that the very first step you must take in creating multiple streams of income is to assess or evaluate your resources. Start by assessing yourself first.

Jot down your answers to the following questions: What are the talents, abilities, strength and gears that you possess? Are you gifted with excellent and creative writing skills? Can you do well at sales? Are you good in communicating with people? Are you born with an artistic skill or unique ability that other people don?t have? Through this, you can determine the kind of business where can possibly excel.

Next, look around and write down you assets and physical resources such as computer, color printer, scanner, digital camera, cell phone, CD or DVD burner. Write these all down because it can be used as a resource. Consider also your friends and family. Find out what do they possess that you have access to. Remember that no man is an island. You can use the talents, abilities, knowledge and resources of everyone you know.

That’s basically the initial step if you want to create multiple income streams. But if you?re already a webmaster or a site owner, you definitely have an edge. Why don’t you join affiliate marketing business to help you gain extra income out of your own website?

Being involved in affiliate marketing is one of the most desirable ways to make multiple sources of income. It is because affiliate marketing programs come in various shapes and forms. There are a large number of affiliate marketing programs that you can sign on with and start gaining bucks right away. In affiliate marketing, you can make money by promoting and reselling your affiliate products and by recruiting new affiliates. What’s good about this is that you can find widest array of training materials that can enhance your marketing abilities. In affiliate marketing, you can be sure that there are genuine products to promote and sell and there is real income to make.

Either part time or full time, being an affiliate marketer is an excellent way to create multiple income streams by means of promoting products and services from web merchants. Here, you can get affiliate commission without investing big bucks in making your own product and without worrying about book keeping, customer support and ecommerce. All you have to do is to promote and resell the products and services in your site and pass on potential customer’s the merchant’s site.

In affiliate marketing, it is advisable to promote more merchants in your site so that your visitors will have variety of destinations to choose from. Using multiple merchants in the same site or niche means only one thing you have multiple streams of affiliate income. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this business strategy because this is one of the best ways to protect your business and expanding your horizons. Through this, you can be assured that you won’t experience crisis if ever one of your web merchants closed his/her program.

However, you should choose only those affiliate programs that interest you so that you can effectively advertise and promote them. Don’t ever be tempted into signing up for numerous affiliate programs in the hope that one of them will bring income. Select wisely and don’t be engaged in selling products you know nothing about. Go with the stuff that jives with your enthusiasm; your passion can capture your client by the nose and guide him/her to your affiliate link.

You should also work hard to make your multiple streams of income more stable. You can do this by embracing some strategies and tactics and by developing within yourself, some traits that can help you become successful in any kind of business such as patience, persistence and thirst for knowledge.

Lastly, just remember the adage that says “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.”

So that if one of them is lost, you can still have some to make omelets. And what do these eggs have to do with multiple streams of affiliate income? Well, it goes without saying that the more streams of income you possess, the bigger and better your money lake becomes.

In order to locate products that sell online, we need to understand what people already want to buy. Finding a good choice of idea or product is always accompanied by interfacing the demand for the product in the current market and the level of competition or market share that the product will be having in the long run.

What should I sell? What products are hot selling? These are the questions most people are trying to find an answer in order for them to make the definite decision. And if we really want to know the answer to this question, our only choice is to do some research. There are all kinds of twists along the road that may lead you to think you have a high-demand idea. We must be able to understand and satisfy the need, wants and expectations of our customers on a certain product that they’re trying to buy. This three are called the basic needs or minimum requirements in a purchase.

Needs are the basic reasons or the minimum requirements consumers are looking for in a product or service. They are called the qualifying or gatekeeper dimensions in a purchase.

Wants are the determining dimensions among many choices. Expectations, on the other hand, are values or intangibles associated with a product or service. Expectations are actually part of ‘wants’ but they become extremely important when products or services are not differentiated.

For example, in reading a logic book, university students look for the following:

Relevant logic concepts use of simple language, easy to understand and affordable prices.

These similar ideas can be applied to Internet Sales as well. After all, the Internet is just another place to sell products. The basic concept of demand is the same there as it is anywhere else, and has been all the time.

Now, the second thing that must be considered in finding hot products to sell are the level of competition or the market shares do your product will have. Market share or level of competition means the ratio of your brand sales versus the total market sales.

While companies would naturally define its target competitors, it is actually the consumers who ultimately decide the competitive frame, or the list related products or services that consumers consider when exercising their purchasing power.

We must therefore choose the market segment where we can have a potential leadership or at least a strong challenger role. Because the overriding objective of getting into this business is not just to satisfy the needs and wants of our customers but to do so profitably better than his competition. Otherwise, our competition will end up satisfying the customers better than our own interest.

Third factor to be considered in finding hot selling products is finding out the general interest level about the product. General interest in a product helps us to gauge where our demand and competition numbers fall into the big picture. Simply saying, if there isn’t much demand for the product, and there isn’t much competition, it would seem that it might not be good a good put up for sale. But the research doesn’t stop here; there is one last thing to be considered to exactly find the hot selling products that you’ve been looking for. We must also learn how others are advertising those products. If there are a good number of them doing so, it may mean that it’s a good product to get into. Coming to the last phase of the process is analyzing and evaluating all the information that has been collected. We have to look at all of the data we have collected on demand, competition, and advertising, and make decision as how they all balance out.

And here are several factors or aspects that must be measured:

(a) not enough demand means not enough people are going to buy,
(b) too much competition means not enough of a profit to go around,
(c) too much advertising drives up the price of pay per click ads, and competition as well, and
(d) not enough general interest, combined with low demand, means there may not be a good market even if there is competition trying to make the sales.

Marketing products and services through the Internet is unquestionably easier and more rewarding compared to traditional marketing methods. With the millions of people worldwide getting online each day, there’s enormous promise for merchants to sell their products and generate huge income.

However, merchandisers are not the only ones who can benefit from online marketing. A booming industry nowadays, provides great opportunity as well to individuals as affiliate marketers. In affiliate marketing, an enterprising entrepreneur doesn’t need to have his own products and services to sell. All he needs to do is to refer people to the merchant site for them to buy the products and through that introduction, earn a commission.

The key to an affiliate marketer’s success is to choose a good affiliate program and to employ excellent marketing techniques in promoting or selling the products to consumers. Why would I say ‘good’ and not the ‘best’ affiliate program? There is no best affiliate marketing program. One program might make one affiliate marketer a millionaire and the other a frustrated marketer. In other words, it can be a success to one and a failure to another. But there certainly is a good affiliate marketing program to start with. How to make it best would now depend on you.

Before you think how you are going to make it best and financially rewarding, first think about how you are going to land on a good affiliate program with the thousands of affiliate marketing opportunities existing online today. Read the following tips and suggestions on how to select the affiliate program that’s right for you and your target market.

Information, that you need in order to make the right choice. It is helpful when you have already focused your search to a specific interest, which may be the theme of your website (if you already have one). In this way, you would be able to direct yourself towards a program that really matches your needs, wants and resources. It would be easier for you to eliminate options that are not suited to your own criteria for a good affiliate marketing program. You can join affiliate forums and learn some tips and get suggestions from experienced affiliate marketers. However, be wise enough to weigh their ideas before you buy them.

The affiliate marketing program networks are good places to look for choices. Here, merchants and affiliate marketers like you meet. The merchants advertise their affiliate programs to interested affiliates who sign up in the network for free. Third party affiliate program networks are helpful since they provide you with access to a large number of advertisers (merchandisers) simultaneously. You can easily track and compare their sales records, performances, benefits, products and services.

So now you have choices, the next question is which among those options is the right one.

Here are some things to consider in deciding which to take and which to reject…

First is the quality of the products and services. As an affiliate marketer your goal is not only to make visitors of your site click the link to the business site; but more importantly, to promote the product (pre-sell) so they are more apt to purchase it. If the customer is not partially convinced before going to the site, your chances of making a commission are slim.

Make sure the products you are endorsing are worthwhile or in the business context, saleable. Ask yourself: if I were the customer, would I buy it? Would I recommend it to my family or good friend? If you can’t answer yet to both questions, find another product or service to promote.

Another is the affiliate program or the merchandiser’s history. Look into their previous and present sales data, their proven and tested affiliate marketing systems and their partners’ experiences with them. Although, success of the program really depends on you, this one is still very important.

The sales records don’t only show how good the affiliates are, but they speak about the products reliability, market availability and the company or the merchandisers reputations. Moreover, investigate the company’s compensation plan. Your purpose for joining the program is to earn, so make sure you’ll be paid for all your efforts.

If you do not have much time to promote intensively by creating banners, graphics and articles, choose affiliate programs that help you create these for your web site or are ready made. It would be great if the company provides training on how to effectively market products online, but some do not. Remember that affiliate marketing is a partnership, so make sure your partner is able to support you as you help him promote his products and services.

Take down all the advantages and disadvantages of each program you are considering so you can clearly see the difference among your options; then later, compare the advantages of the programs with your own checklist. Take time to gather all the info you need to choose the right program. Remember an informed choice is always the best choice.

Considered today as one of the best and easiest way to make money online, affiliate marketing is now attracting many people. As competition grows, you may need some ways to distinguish yourself from the rest of the affiliate marketers. For the major reason that many of your competitors including you are promoting the exact same program, in the exact same zone and even on the exact same websites. Here are some tips to consider to help you stay in the business and win against your competitors.

The first thing is to have your own website. It is essential for you to have your own website when affiliate marketing is your career. Since most potential customers go to websites to search and purchase items they were looking for, it makes sense to have your own site, preselling and/or reviewing products.

Another thing to remember is to have your own ad. A lot of times affiliate marketers have published the same ad two or three times that were created by the merchants. As are thousands of other affiliates. Set yourself apart by creating your own, or asking the merchant to create a special ad just for your use. People have become immune to ads, seeing the same ads over and over again allow them to just block them out entirely.

Step three, have some products of your own which are only available through your website. Once you have your website going, it is important to have some products or services that your customers can’t find elsewhere. You want your customers to keep coming to your site and the best way to do that is to have something on your site that they can’t find on other sites. Being an affiliate marketer we must then choose a certain market segment where you can have a potential leadership.

The fourth step is to build a strong relationship with people who already buy your product. Now, in order for you as the marketer to fully answer the query of your potential customers, it is best to try and buy the product by yourself. You can better sell a product that you are trying to market when you have first hand knowledge of it. You can share to your potential customers what a great experience you had with the product, and this can make them interested enough to try it for themselves. You may also be able to provide support if necessary or you may provide a confident tutorial or steps on how to use the product that you are trying to market based on your personal experience. Entailing this idea is to be totally honest about the product that you are trying to market.

If you find out that the program you were promoting is a scam, stop promoting it and inform your readers about it. This will help you build credibility with your lists. We all make mistakes and admitting your mistake will boost your reader’s confidence in you.

Lastly, don’t try to market everything you see. With services such as Clickbank, it is easy to become overwhelmed and try to market everything in the Clickbank marketplace. Not a good idea. It is better to focus on one target market and promote products that they would want.

Try also to promote a certain product, which conforms to the specifications measured through indications of customer-satisfaction, rather than indicators of self-gratification. It is the customer who decides what to buy and not the company or the affiliate marketer. The company simply produces products catering to the needs and wants of their chosen market segment.

Today, different types of business are emerging from all over the world in a multi-national level to reign supreme on the market segment that they are trying to dominate, and affiliate marketing is no different. Affiliate marketing is definitely here to stay and it can become a great way to earn extra or even part time income. However, it won’t happen overnight. Like every other business or career choice, you’re going to have to put hard work into it.

I still get emails every day from people who want to start an online business. I don’t mind – although our recent house fire has neutered my available time to assist somewhat – but most of the people who write are truly stuck, and therefore it is harder to help them.

So as I sit here, day after day, waiting for the new house to build itself so I can get back to work, I thought I’d write a series of blog posts on starting an internet business. What to sell, how to sell it, the variety of website types, and so on.

First, we’ll talk about ebook authoring and sales.

More often than not, this is what my subscribers desire more information on. Back to the very basics though – they don’t even know what to write or publish a book on!

Here’s how to find ebook ideas….

Look around you and determine your own and your friends’ interests. Write a list. Think of the problems you or your friends have solved – relative to those interests. Any problem that has been solved in your own environment, surroundings and network, could easily be a subject of a new ebook. People love to read and resolve how others have solved the problem that they are currently experiencing.

Brainstorm a list of problems in your life and in the lives of those around you. Your friend Joan recently lost her job? Your niece just had mumps without vaccination? Your best friend discovered an easy way to create a hobby table for his train set?

What were the issues, the solutions, the concerns? How did they cope or resolve their troubles?

How to lose the last ten pounds. The straightest path to becoming a millionaire. Cutting your grocery bill or fuel costs in half. Fixing a leaky faucet for good? These are problems waiting for ebook solutions!

Keep in mind that you don’t always have to know the solution or be an expert – you just need the topic and a little time to research or a little money to hire an author. You could get someone else to do the research and write the book for you. You will not actually be writing one word.

DIY Research for Your Ebook

The internet is a great way to find out what people are looking for at any given moment. You can search for almost anything. Googleâ„¢ is a popular search engine you can use, or you can try any of the others like Yahoo!® or DogPile.com.

And while you’re online researching, be sure to uncover the most popular nonfiction book titles and sub-titles from the New York Times bestseller list or Amazon. You’ll quickly uncover exactly what book subjects people are buying right now.

Try this. Go to www.amazon.com. From the tabbed menu running along the top of the Amazon home page, click “Top Sellers.”

I did this one day and found several nonfiction books with titles such as Natural Cures “they” won’t tell you about, how what you wear can change your life, How to profit from the decline of the dollar, and so on.

I’ve paraphrased, but you get the idea.

Here’s what I learned just from spending a few minutes on Amazon. People are reading good fiction from already-best selling authors. Secondly, Amazon buyers are interested in nonfiction topics such as improving their lives and making more money. For these books, just about any author will do, even virtual unknowns or people who went to prison for lying to the American public.

Remember that the straightest route to ebook profits is in the nonfiction ebook market. This is for a number of reasons.

Fiction readers tend to like to curl up in a chair with an actual book.

Some of them attend book clubs where the physical books are brought around someone’s kitchen table with wine and cheese.

Fiction readers tend to purchase from authors they’re already familiar with.

Fiction can be more difficult to write and deliver well.

Also, many of the classics in fiction are available as free ebooks. A reader interested in fiction could just download those.

Stick with nonfiction unless you’re feeling particularly bold and experimental.

Also, don’t get caught up on copyright. Not that it isn’t important, but just because someone else wrote a book on saving money on income tax doesn’t mean that no one else can write about it! Ideas are not copyrighted, therefore any idea you see, hear, or read anywhere anytime, is yours to use. You can create books around the same ideas that are covered in the Amazon best seller list, and turnaround and create an ebook on the exact same subject!

Now, copyright law does protect the way ideas are expressed, so you want to make sure your hired author does not plagiarize or copy book text outright. You cannot use the title verbatim either. But there’s nothing stopping you from creating another book or ebook that covers the same subject with a different voice. It’s all as completely legal. This is why looking at bestseller lists is a great way to get topic ideas.

Writing for Hobbies

There are groups of people who are willing to buy nonfiction ebooks: hobbyists. At any given time, these people are looking for ways to spend their money on their hobbies. Their passion is your financial gain.

What avid hobbyists want will always make great ebook material. Note that I did not say what hobbyists need.

You may have certain opinions on what exactly certain people should need or should read. But those are not necessarily good topics for immediate ebook profit. Those topics may be areas for you to dabble in at your leisure. However, if you want to make money at this, find out what niche groups want, and hit those groups with your ebook.

Find hobbyists and niche groups by searching the web for “popular hobbies,” “enthusiasts,” or “what America is buying.” Or, you can search specifically for forums and discussion groups for hobbyists. In the forums, people talk with each other to share ideas with one another. Often, they will exchange testimonials for equipment, upcoming events, and books.

I will write more on this topic later. For now, start investigating, journaling or researching your ideas and their solutions – even if to simply secure a ghostwriter.

If you look to the right on every page you’ll see my daughter and I – taken 5 years ago when I started this site.

Time flies.

Not such a little kid anymore, today she’s a strong and smart young woman. In fact she’s more than that – she’s my best buddy and my favorite travel companion. (Last year we did a month long trip to Europe together and came back stronger than ever! If you ever need to reconnect with your teen, take them out of their element and devote your every moment on them for a month. Something magical happens, I promise!)

At any rate, back to her upcoming experiment…

It’s been exam week here and she’s looking for ways to make money. Because she’s a minor without skills she needs to be innovative.

So I flipped her a $5 report on how to make $1,000 to $2,000 in 24 hours that was recently updated for 2008 (it’s version 4) and she loved the ideas in it!

“I’ll never need to bother you for money again…now that I know what internet marketers do for…”

The report, on it’s own, has been causing quite a stir.

Written by a veteran in the business.

I figure if my 13 year old loves it, than any one new to the business of making money online will be able to understand and work the step-by-step action plan inside.

And since so many of us could always use some extra money I told my email list about and set up a subscriber’s only ‘ghetto’ page (ghetto means I threw the page online, am selling it for $5, immediate download).

You can read more about it or purchase it here: Really Fast Money Report

p.s. I think my daughter is going to grow up to be an online business owner or entrepreneur of some sort – she even looks the part, don’t you agree?

Editor’s Note and Update: There is a very good reason this is one of the most popular posts on this site even though it was written back in October 2007! Far too many online marketers are missing the boat by not paying attention to their RSS feeds. They think their blogs are doing all the heavy lifting in the search engines, but don’t know how to reach even more targeted traffic by re-purposing their feeds. If you can ‘get’ this concept into your mind and implement the technique in a way that makes sense to your market, you can write your own paycheck.

———————
I’ve been out of the loop for the last few months as many of my regular readers know. Working on other projects and not wanting to fill up the world wide web with unnecessary ramblings.

Today I want to share an internet marketing strategy that I initially wrote about in Stampede Secret 2.0, and now hear other trainers teaching (which I’m happy about because this is an elegant way for savvy marketers to drive traffic and increase brand awareness within their target markets).

As an aside, I took the Stampede Secret 2.0 package off the market a few months back when I picked up a demanding corporate assignment and couldn’t focus on the marketing or personalized attention some of my users required. However after receiving many email requests for the course I edited the book (with a stronger focus for niche marketers), and have just today put the ebook back for sale at a price more people could afford. (see http://www.stampedesecret.com/web20/guide for more details). Keep in mind that this is a strategy guide – it’s up to you to determine where you implement the strategy and you have to put your thinking cap on to do so. I’m not about to tell you that one site has all the answers for all the markets online.

Back to the original reason for this post…

Andy Beard wrote about this website today (gooruze.com) and touched on the technique I shared with marketers earlier this year – repurposing your blog’s rss feed on Web 2.0 enabled sites.

I first discovered this hugely beneficial technique on the very busy PlugIM website, then again on Squidoo, and then on BlinkBits and now (via Andy’s direction – Gooruze Preview).

Of course there are countless other places to repurpose your feed content (without penalty and niche market specific) to drive traffic and obtain immediate backlinks to your website – those listed above are just some of my favorite, generic, and/or internet marketing, related.

If Gooruze looks to be up your alley, sign up, add your blog’s feed to your profile (and your photo of course), and be eligible to win $10,000 in Adwords clicks during this early-launch phase. And while you’re there, take a page out of Andy’s power user idea – add your StumbleUpon feed to your profile as well! (A link to it is found in your StumbleUpon user page – lower left orange RSS icon).

Drop me a line and let me know your results in 30 days or so!

You can add features to your blog that make viewing your site more interesting to viewers plus make you money at the same time. Introducing the Web 2.0 Widgets.

Most of these easy-to-install widgets (small files of code) are available right now and free of charge at WidgetBox.

For instance, the Revver Video widget allows you to add other people’s videos to your website that when viewed earn you 20% of the revver take. (Reverse this if you have your own videos to share and you can increase your earnings up to 60%.)

Here’s another cool widget – this one for consultants. It’s called WDeal and it places a small button on your site. If your site readers use it to call you for advice or consultation, and they’re paying for your time at the rate you set. Very innovative.

Be sure to stop over at Widget Box for more ideas and share them here by leaving a comment. I will continue to add to this list as time and discovery permits.

A while back I talked about how to use video content to get more traffic, page rank and search engine positioning to your blogs or websites.

Today I want to talk to you about using that same video content to earn money online.

How much money?

We’re not talking small-potatoes-split-the-adsense-click revenue stuff here. You could make up to $400 per video, $2,000 for flash animations, and you can even make money with your photos.

All content has to be original, of course, and there are other stipulations on the content (mostly dealing with copyright, but also regarding popularity of your content).

Got Video?

The types of video that could earn you money are numerous – but these wouldn’t be the advertisement type disguised as a how-to. No, these videos are entertaining, expose, or truly valuable tutorials that people rate, vote on and share.

If you own copyrights to such content check out these sites:

Break.com – seems to pay the most right now, has an alexa ranking of 310 and Google PR of 6. You can also use Break.com to host your videos and have them stream into your own sites (saving you bandwidth).

Second choice is up-and-climbing Lulu.tv with an innovative revenue share model. Here’s how it works: 80% of all ad revenue for the site goes into a pool every month. At month’s end all shareholders receive their ‘take’. Lulu uses this example: If their site videos attracted 1,000,000 viewers and you got 10,000 of those viewers that’s 1%. So you get 1% of the cash pool. They state that this month the pool is 5,000 (1% of 5,000 is 50).

What’s not clear here? What Lulu means by ‘you get’ those viewers (your video attracted an ad view? an ad click? a user account? what?) and what currency are we talking – I’d definately work much harder for 50 pounds than 50 dollars, etc. LuLu’s FAQs are not clear. However Alexa tells me that their traffic rank is 77, 875 (a wild guess suggests 1,000-1,500 uniques a day).

Flixya.com was another one worth mentioning, but the rewards program has been suspended until further notice but once offered prizes such as nanos, psps, and even MacBook Pros.

At the moment you can still make a cut on the the Adsense revenue share (which really doesn’t make any worthwhile use of your time given that you could earn so much more for your efforts elsewhere). Better news about Flixya is that they are about to release version 2 which will include personal spaces and a 100% Adsense revenue share. With an alexa rank of 14,489 and a PR of 6 on the home page there is potential for bringing some foot traffic to your site. (It is unknown at this time whether the new version will employ ‘nofollow’ tags.)

If these three don’t appeal to you, below is a list of video hosting sites that have varying revenue share options (while we all continue to wait for YouTube to get it’s act together on this).

Finally, there is a great conversation on TechCrunch about this right now (TechCrunch currently has javascript errors on their site so you may need to refresh their page twice to view the article and comments).

List of revenue sharing video sites:

MetaCafe

www.revver.com

www.eefoof.com

www.nelsok.com

www.filmaka.com

I’m certain there are many more. If you know of any – that offer excellent rewards, prizes or payouts – please share them with other readers in a comment.

I just found this and love it!

It’s a little piece of javascript code you can put in your blog posts, on your sidebar, within your html pages, anywhere that you have put Google’s Adsense in the past and found they didn’t make you any money!

What’s really cool is that the code (created by the server – all you do is cut and paste) comes in all the same shapes and sizes as Adsense ads – so you won’t need to change the format or layout of any existing pages, just cut and paste and presto!

You’ll have products in your sidebar served up by the most trusted shopping networks online – eBay.

Just like this one I made for my daugher’s girly site…

(sorry everyone when I updated my WordPress version I took out the samples. You’ll have to click through the link to see samples)

…in 250×250 format.

Or the one in my sidebar showing laptop computers (look to the right) in 120×600. (removed due to new design)

So, if you’ve been thinking you wanted to run eBay ads and earn some easy commissions, but you didn’t want to buy the script that creates entire websites around the eBay affiliate program, this is for you!

Sign up free and get your code.

Right now they’re paying 100% of the eBay affiliate commission to the publisher (that’s you) and the money arrives in your PayPal account. This may change (I haven’t heard) after the initial launch, at any rate the payouts are bound to be higher than most people are making on their crappy ol’ Adsense clicks.

The alternative is to sign up with eBay’s affiliate program through Commission Junction, then muddle through the eBay editor kit, then paste that code into your web pages, then wait a month for Commission Junction to pay you (often longer if you’re set to be paid by check via the postal service).

One other good reason to use the snippets set up by AuctionAds – they have the potential to earn you more than you’d make via CJ as their network grows (this has to do with eBay’s sliding scale and performance incentives to publishers).

This takes 5 minutes to create an account, get the code and paste it into your web property. Why not try it and test the results today?

Let me know how you do with this…I’m interested to hear your results!

————-

On a side note (because I’ve just been bombarded by email questions on this just 1/2 hour after this post!) the way I replaced my City Hall-city girl’s income as an eBay affilliate is by using the script I talk about here (you’ll also find links to the sites/stores I’m running with that script). That eBay script was one of my top 2 picks for 2006 and it’s still holding strong in 2007!

BUT if you’re not ready to take that big leap of faith and follow me, try the free eBay affiliate service above. It takes 5 minutes where the store-site script takes longer (to payout, to establish, to modify the template, etc.)

Lately I’ve been reading and talking quite a bit about where internet business is headed and how much doing business online has changed just in the last year…

And today an internet marketing friend shared with me his free report titled: “The Death of Internet Marketing”

I will admit, give the sheer genius of the marketer (Mike Filsaime), I was pretty sure I’d be in for a fear-based, pitch-fest by reading it. “Oh no! My online business will die if I don’t know/buy/practice this!”

It turns out that wasn’t the case.

This free and meaty (59 pages of similar content I received from part of Mark Joyner’s eXtreme home study course) really helped clarify the future of online business in my mind.

This really could be the death of the way netpreneurs currently do business online!

The good news is, the report also shows you what you need to know now to succeed in and prepare for the future.

Times are changing (I’ve been rambling about this for quite some time now) and it would be a shame for any serious netpreneur to miss this report. Mike states on the site he’s only making it available for free for the next few weeks.

Please take a break with whatever is keeping you busy at the moment, get your free training, and clearly see what steps to take next in your business.

Consider your future, go here now…

This week I sent an email to my subscribers and two people wrote back to me.

The email was a notification about Michael Rasmussen’s free videos on how to manage a list of subscribers and write emails that are opened, read and acted upon.

Thousands followed the link and grabbed the free videos, many (after seeing the quality of the content) decided they needed to learn more from Michael) and upgraded to own the full set. However it was not necessary to upgrade to gain some valuable information au gratis.

Here’s part of the email I sent out:

It is in the top three questions I get every week about working from home…

“How do I write to and manage a list of subscribers for profits?”

Well Michael Rasmussen (who recently brought in over $30,000 from a single email promotion), has created a series of videos that he’s allowing me to pass onto you for free. (plus you’ll get a handy little redirect script, also free).

Grab them here.

Email marketing secrets about:

* the subject line
* the call to action
* the body copy
* the P.S.
* plus, my personal favorite, common mistakes new email marketers make!

Go check it out now in case he changes his mind and starts charging for these or before too many people find out and crash their servers…

Now let me tell you about the two people who wrote back…

One subscriber wrote back and said, “I’m just starting my business so I didn’t sign up. I can’t spend money on everything that comes along. Please tell me if I really need this…”

First of all, the time that it took to write that email to me could have been invested in signing up for free and watching those videos – moving forward in your business instead of wondering and treading water. Secondly, I don’t send my subscribers anything that I don’t use, haven’t seen or reveiwed, or believe in myself…

It’s okay, I know we’re all skeptical and worried about handing over our email address for free products and not wanting to be subjected to enticing offers and upsells. Let’s use our heads here. Get yourself a free email account and use that address to subscribe for the free offers. Or, once subscribed, if you feel like a number that is just being pitched to, unsubscribe from any follow-up emails once you’ve received your free offer.

“Personally I spend an hour of every day reading other marketer’s emails. Why? To stay on top of the new product offerings but also to analyze and learn from the wide variety of email copywriting that sells. I don’t envision that time as being pitched to, I see it as an educational experience.”

Now before I run off on a tangent, let me tell you about the second subscriber who wrote back to me…

“Laura, I’m unsubscribing from all marketing related email lists. Everything is written to sell me, nothing is purely to help. I’ve ordered some of the products and I’m always left knowing I have only been given the tip of the iceberg, that there is something more I need to succeed online…”

I promise to share my response to this gentleman another day in a comment to this post, but in the meantime I’m wondering what action you would have taken had you received an email like this from your subscriber…

Would you:

Just let them go because obviously they aren’t a good match for you and your business?

Realize that they are one of those people who spend hundreds or thousands on products and never put them to use (and therefore are a lost cause anyway)?

Think that here’s a guy that once spent money on marketing projects and probably would spend money again IF you could find the product that met his desires, or shared the secret he thinks we’re all holding back from him?

Analyze that if one person wrote an email like this it’s quite likely that another 99 had similar thoughts – and take action to create a product that will suit their needs?

Or _____________?

You don’t have to answer me here, you don’t even have to email me your answer, but I do suggest that you think about what your reaction to an email like this would be.

Why?

Your reaction holds the keys to your future online business success. Let me say that again: “Your reaction holds the key to your future online business success,” because the internet, and the surfers of it, and your subscribers are changing. As they change, the way you market to, interact and react to your customers and readers will change – if you want to survive.

How do I know this?

Next month I celebrate 9 years of working online from home. No boss, no paycheck. Just me and the world wide web.

Nine years ago I was fortunate enough to work with the longest running internet marketing expert Marlon Sanders for about 4 months – but I wasn’t smart enough to ‘get’ what he was trying to show me.

Two years ago I was fortunate enough to co-author two books and launch 3 websites with marketing legend Dr. Joe Vitale. I was nearly smart enough then to glean many of the secrets he shared with me.

But this is the first year that I’ve matured enough to stand back and look at where we’ve been, how we’ve changed, and where we’re heading. I’ll disclose my insights, my projections and predictions in following posts.

In a few days I’ll disclose my action or reaction to my gentleman subscriber who has bought hundreds of dollars of marketing products and thinks that marketing authors aren’t disclosing all, that “there’s something more I need to succeed online.”

In the meantime, I’d love to hear from you.
