My philosophy for beginners is: Start Small, Finish Big!

Step 1:

Forget about high paying keywords. The money in affiliate marketing is steady growth of your target market. How is this done? By creating an ever expanding site, filled with original content that people will return too over and over. Chances are that a one-time visitor will not buy anything off your site. If you can keep people coming back and establish yourself as an expert in your field, then your visitors are more likely to take your advice and purchase whatever product or click whatever link you suggest.

Step 2:

Forget about SEO for your home page. Build a site that YOU would revisit over and over. Put interesting links on your front page. Create dynamic content – like a blog. Be sure to include a “What’s New” section that lists all the new articles you have written and posted.

Step 3:

Now that this is done, look for affiliate programs. Search Commission Junction, LinkShare and Clickbank for products to promote. Be creative!

Lets look at these steps and walk through a practical example.

Let’s say that my interest is in collecting pens. Seriously, pens. My first step would be to identify some keywords relating to pens. A quick browse over to the free Google Keyword tool and I get the following list of terms :

pens

promotional pens

fountain pens

ballpoint pens

cross pens

ink pens

writing pens

personalized pens

mont blanc pens

gel pens

designer pens

bic pens

waterman pens

custom pens

parker pens

Now that I have my list of terms, it’s time to start building a site. I write a bunch of articles – preferably one for each keyword. Use a SEO software to check each article for structure and keyword density. More about SEO here. I create a home page all about pens, with a blog that I update every couple of days with a review about a pen I used etc. Find a webhost and buy a domain that reflects your interest – all-about-pens.com or something.

Now that my site is ready to go life, time to fill it with affiliate links. Be creative – everyone can spot a hard sell a mile away. So, for example, become an ebay affiliate and create a vertical banner with designer pen auctions in it. Become and associate of amazon.com and post links to books about the history of pens and pen collecting. Put some Adsense on your pages.

Now promote your site. Cross post your original content articles on free article directories, with links to your site. Create Adwords ads around your key terms.

Before you know it you will be earning money!

Let’s Break It Down

I hope you’ve got a pen and pencil ready! Let’s look at who their target market or should I say perfect customer really is. Well, from the title “Got Turkey Neck” and product, we know that their target market is women or more specific or niche as I like to say, is older women suffering from wrinkled skin. In case you didn’t know, women are the perfect customer or at least they hold the purchasing power and they also have a lot of problems that need to be solved and a lot of needs that need to be met, lots of things that drive them). I’m willing to bet that the majority of people who read the Parade magazine are middle to older aged women. And the ad copy perfectly addresses their problem as well as a solution to it.

We have all said it and we have all lived it. I call this particular kind of stress Too Much To Do stress, or TMTD stress. When we feel TMTD stress, we typically have one or both of the following reactions. We either just say the heck with it and let everything pile up. Or we try to do it all and make ourselves and those around us miserable.

Another, more powerful and useful solution is to write it down, break it down, and knock it down.

Write it down

When we take the time to write down all the things we have to do, we reap at least two key benefits:

1)We keep it from running around in our heads over and over again.

2)We are able to put it outside of ourselves, which allows us to step back and get a better picture of what is in front of us.

It’s a cop-out to claim you don’t have time to write it all down. You are right that it will take a few minutes, but they are minutes well-spent that will save you time and stress.

Get a sheet of paper and divide it into four columns. In the first column list all the things that you need to do. They are now on paper, which makes them much more manageable than when they are taking up space in your head.

When we continually say “I’ve got too much to do,” we see all of our tasks as one huge unmanageable job. It’s like trying to eat a pizza in one big bite. You choke and can’t do it. We eat a pizza by cutting it into slices and then eating it a bite at a time. Do the same thing with your to-do list.

After you have written goals down, the next step is to break them into manageable pieces. You can get a lot done a little bit at a time.

So now, back to your sheet of paper. In the first of the four columns, you have written down all the tasks you want to complete. The next three columns are for each of the next three days, over which you are going to divide all the tasks on your to-do list. Break your tasks down by scheduling some on day one, some on day two and some on day three.

In this way, you have taken this long list of things to do, and broken them down into manageable pieces that you can do over three or more days.

Once you have written it down and broken it down, you will have renewed energy to get things done, to knock these things down.

If you notice that some of these items no longer seem as important, discard them and move onto the next task.

It’s important to remember that if you do not get everything done that is scheduled for one day, the course of history will probably not be affected. Just do it the next day. Remember, the point of this exercise is to reduce your stress, not increase it.

Write it down, break it down, knock it down, and send that Too Much To Do stress packing.

Here’s why most of what you have been told by other so-called article marketing experts and gurus is dead wrong when it comes to writing and submitting articles online.

There are a lot of marketing “gurus” out there who claim to have the magical solution for helping you obtain thousands of links back to your site just by the push of a button. There are others who claim to have a solution for the duplicate content problem – and promote something called spinning software, which will produce several variations of an article. The problem with these “old-school” quick fixes is that article submission software results in the low-quality link. And spinning software creates articles that read unnatural. This is Not an effective way to create REAL traffic. It’s a waste of your time and money not to do article marketing the right way.

4. Traditional article marketing doesn’t result in dollars earned.

Traditional article marketing is all about producing content for the sake of quantity and not quality. Mediocrity is not the way to attract new business. After all, Google invented the AdSense marketing scenario, who better to ask. And they offer this information for free 24/7 with their External Keyword Tool. Google’s keyword tool will tell you how many searches, what the average CPC (cost per click) is, what the monthly average is, in both broad match and exact match scenarios.

That’s just about everything you need to know to determine the higher payouts for what search terms or keywords in a nutshell. This tool has been around for quite some time and should be your first go to spot for information on keywords. Keep in mind that the information is simply a guideline and may not be accurate down to the penny or absolute number of searches.

Based on my experience, the search numbers (times a search term is searched on) is pretty liberal in broad match. Broad match includes any search that may have those keywords, which may be too big of a catch all. I’ve seen a search term drop from 200,000 searches in broad term, to 30,000 searches in exact match. So it’s always a good idea to do searches both in broad match and exact match to get a feel for a realistic number of searches.

There is also speculation on how current and accurate the data is on the searches. That’s why it’s best to use this information as a guideline. It will show you enough information to make a determination on the value of search terms. And also consider that Google never stands still, they constantly change algorithms to try and improve the search experience for the users. So the data is in constant flux.

But the Google External Keyword Tool can tell you what you need to know to find the high paying AdSense keywords or search terms. It’s free, easy, and full of useful information. There are quite a few websites that want you to believe that this is secret information and very difficult to come by. Not true at all.

One of the most famous terms is Mesothelioma (that’s a form of cancer usually caused by exposure to asbestos or other harmful material in the workplace). The reason advertisers are willing to pay so much ($40 or more) is that a lawsuit can net a law firm millions of dollars. Other terms having anything to do with big dollar lawsuits also get bids up to $40 or more.

If you just think about what type of term or keyword can return large payouts, that’s another way to find high paying AdSense keywords. In fact most terms that have a lot of competition, involve a high dollar return, are naturally going to be high cost to the advertiser. And these terms will pay more to the AdSense website owner when they get clicked on by a visitor.

So if you look for the high return business areas like mortgages, loans, lawsuits, insurance, and etc. you’ll also find the high paying AdSense keywords. Google’s External Keyword tool will help you narrow it down to the popularity of the search terms and other important details.

But just like the advertisers drive up the price of the search term or keyword, the competition on the number of websites trying to capitalize on the high paying terms is greater too. So you shoud also determine the amount of web pages that have that term (broad match) or even optimized for the term (exact match – use quotes on the term for exact match).

There are software tools out there that can find the high paying AdSense keywords and also show you the competition for those terms in one place. The cost ranges from $100 to $400, or monthly fees from $40 to $100 if website based rather than standalone applications. But it’s not a bad idea to start off learning how to do it manually and although it does take a little longer, it’s just as effective.

There’s a whole lot more to the AdSense Website business model besides the amount of payout per click. Doing proper keyword research to determine revenue should be the first step. But there are a few other important aspects that you need to understand and implement to be successful.
