Sometimes the easiest way to blog is not always the best place to find a home for your blog. Take for example blogging on a social network site such as Facebook. While it is a great place to place a link to a blog on another site, it is not great for blogging itself. And this is something you absolutely must take into account. There is a way to blog and a way not to blog. There is a time to blog and a time not to blog. There is a place to blog and places where blogging is not going to be as beneficial to you as another place may be. So how do you know how, when and where?

So why is Facebook not a great place to blog? For starters the website is not set up for blogging. You can write and add “notes” but you have to tag each of your friends and followers if they are going to be notified of your new post. And then it shows up on their wall – which may not go over so well if being inundated with “notes” is not their preference. You could wind up losing followers, friends and family. When that means you are not going to be making any money. And you will not make money from your blog alone on Facebook. You will have to put links to your website or to another blogging web site if you want to utilize ads and banner ads for affiliate programs.

Establishing the fact that social networking sites such as Facebook are out, leaves you with places such as WordPress or even Blogspot.com. There are some ups and downs for each site but they do, at least, allow the use of ads and promoting affiliate programs. You just have to get traffic to the site. That leaves you with the proper time to blog once you figure out where. Try not to post late night blogs because many people will miss out on new blogs if you are consistently posting at odd hours. Try posting at the same time each day or every couple of days. You may not want to even blog every single day for fear of inundating your followers with too much information or repeated information. Have a set number of blogs for the week and stick with that schedule.

All that being said, there is a specific formula (or blueprint) for when to blog, how frequently, and how to get links to your original page and traffic to your individual blog posts. However, all this usually takes a lot of work. Not many people want to devote that kind of time to maintaining their blog on a daily basis. But don’t lose heart! There is a solution. Just take a quick visit to Smart Blogging Automation and you will see what I have been up to for the last three years – earning my living from home, blogging for income. It may also be the perfect solution for your needs. You can cut down on your proposed work load, boost your blog rankings (and traffic), which eventually equates to a higher return. Best of all, the entire tools and system is heavily based on ‘smart’ automation.

What is ‘smart’ automation you ask?

You may already have all the traits and tools in place to be succeesful in a business such as affiliate marketing.

You may have the necessary drive, diligence and perseverance to be able to understand how the system works.

You may have all the tools necessary in maintaining the business, including a unique and interesting website which could earn you a fortune – if only the world could see it, and visit, and click on your offers.

Yet all these prove useless if you do not know first how to drive traffic to your website. Your business would sink into oblivion together with all the sales, fortune and dreams that you might have enjoyed if only you knew how to get the traffic coming to your offers.

Getting people who matter to see your website is a difficult undertaking especially when your consider the fact that rivals are everywhere online. The immensity of the internet as well as the affiliate marketing world has given birth to the fierce competition between affiliate marketers, each of whom has his own great product to offer.

With all the websites piling on top of each other, how would one be able to stand out? The seven best ways to drive laser-targeted traffic to one’s own website would help those who are bent on sticking it out with this business wherever it is bound to take them.

The first step in driving traffic is by relying on search engines and what they can do for the affiliate marketer. Because they are popular for driving free targeted traffic, they should not be ignored. Having top search engine rankings is vital in building popularity links, and the use of the right keywords is important in attaining this goal. Once a website is on top of the list, it is easily accessible to anyone who wants to see it for himself.

The second way in driving traffic is by contacting other webmasters for a possible link exchange partnership. Locating websites that are related to your own website is the primary task. Once there, establish communication by personalizing everything as much as possible. It is then possible to make reciprocal link exchanges between webmasters whichever way the affiliate marketer prefers.

The third way is through writing articles. This is an effective way in promoting a website, because good content that are appreciated by readers will lead them to visit the writer’s site out of sheer interest.

The fourth way is through joint venture marketing. This is one of the most effective ways of promoting a product or a service. Having a partner through ad swap or link exchange is beneficial to both parties as it allows them to reach a wide customer base in a short amount of time.

The fifth is through joining affiliate programs. Having affiliates to do the work means allowing them to bring tons of traffic to a website. Skyrocketing sales would be realized as a result, and both the affiliate and the website owner will benefit from the situation.

The sixth is by having a list of subscribers that one can refer to every so often, because they are those which would prove to be valuable assets for the marketer concerned. The use of autoresponders and personalized newsletters is one way of keeping track of them all, and holding on to them by letting them know about new products and services is an essential task that should be done by the affiliate marketer concerned.

The seventh is by knowing your target market through and through. It is important for traffic to be targeted to those who might have a special interest in the theme or topic of your site. This way, a solid customer base is going to be created. Once a potential customer shows an interest in a site by paying it a visit, one must not waste time in trying to show him that his effort is worth it.

Traffic generating strategies are important in trying to make an affiliate marketing career move forward. It is always advantageous to plan your moves in any business. This is particularly so in affiliate marketing. If you know or learn how to get people to see what you have to offer, then your income can only increase from now on.

You have finished making your website. You have introduced your company and presented your products and services. You have added propositions and promos to catch your target audience’s attention. You have achieved the dos and don’ts of building a company web site. But why isn’t your website a major success?

Maybe you’re not planning the key to the best promotion of your web site. Here are some guidelines on how to acquire free web site promotion.

If you have started to promote your web site, keep it constant. If you promote your site with persistence, it will catch your audience’s attention.

Be patient. Try each method in promotion until you acquire the best, free promotion there is. You have to accept trial and error for your web site to reach the top.

There are many ways for your web site to be seen. Here are some free web site promotions you could try until you find the most effective.

Free promotions such as search engines and directories would give your web site the deserved traffic you always wanted. Make sure to check your web site?s ranking to know whether or not this type of free promotion is right for you.

Make a deal with other web sites on trading links which could help both web sites. Make sure to use words that could easily interest the audience.

Find free classified ads that could boost the promotion of your web site. These ads could be seen by other people who you are not targeting for, but may as well be interested in your services.

Free and low-cost internet banners are spread all through out the World Wide Web. Banners that pop-up at the top of a page or in a separate window would automatically catch your target audience’s eye.

If your web site and its free promotion did not work even after accomplishing these methods, analyze your web site. Track down all visitors, advertisements, and transactions. Then locate errors in your web site. Upload new files to your web site continuously for audience to return for new products and services. Monitor your own web site stats.

It has always been said that the best things in life are free. Yes they are. And as soon as your free web site promotion gains a foothold in the market, you won’t be able to turn the traffic off unless you begin to neglect your audience.

Two of the best marketing trainers online ever (and since the early days of marketing online) also published some tough love this week (just like my rant a few days back):

“…there’s something a little wrong with some of the wanna be entrepreneurs landing on my doorstep this month. More wrong than just believing the lie that a million can be made overnight. More wrong than thinking a $5 ebook written 5 years ago is going to teach the strategy that is required to make a business flourish today…full text – Laura Childs

I wondered if it wasn’t too tough to read for some people, too discouraging for newbies, or too judgemental…but then I clicked over to a favorite trainer’s site a few days later…

Perry Marshall Attacks Stupidity and Suggest Ways to Protect Yourself

“You know what’s wrong with the Internet? Smart people and stupid people get equal airtime. And since stupid people tend to shout longer and louder than people who have acquired wisdom and judgment, ignorance generally prevails…”

and this:

“The point is, stupidity is cheap and plentiful. With stupidity, your options appear to be endlessly open. Enticing possibilities, immediate, apparent, as though you could just…”

Perry has some great points in his article on becoming wise, learning discernment in the modern (online) world, and the difference between a fool’s thinking and a wise man’s accomplishments…(enough food for thought there to make me consider getting out of the publicity path). I advise anyone who stops here to take 3-5 and read his article and digest his suggestions. You’ll want to look for the hidden lessons, the points behind the prose (click here to open Perry’s rants and answers in a new window)

“Okay,” said I, “I’m not so lonely ranting about authenticity, and unqualified marketing trainers teaching, and dream-chasers not thinking clearly about who they’re following and what they’re perpetuating…”

And Then Came Marlon’s “Wise Up!”

As you might know it was Marlon Sanders who first introduced me into this business back in 1995 (ish). Marlon paid me to run his pay per click campaigns and to make small text and graphic changes to his web pages. I was too stupid to stick around and learn all I could from this marketing genius back then, but I hang on most of his words today – and it’s all served me incredibly well.

I owe a large part of my work-at-home, vacation-when-you-want, lifestyle today to Marlon’s teachings.

Marlon told me I could re-publish the content here for you (since he doesn’t have an online version to link to) and I think he’ll be shocked that I actually did it, since it’s not an easy read. UPDATE – September 5/07: Marlon has entered the blogging world! Marlon’s Marketing Minute.

If you’re looking for some happy thoughts or dreams of millions overnight, Marlon’s latest rant is NOT for you. This is a tough love, wake up call.

I thought of editing, but decided if you don’t know Marlon, reading this from the start is an education into itself. Marlon is Texan so read it in a drawl…

How to Get the Traffic You Need to Make Your ‘Money Machine’ Hum and Purr or What I Learned about Affiliate Programs by Drinking Coffee in a New Shop and How it Can Help YOU Get More People to Your WebSite

‘Bout two miles away from me is the new place in town. You walk in the doors and there are plenty of nice, cushiony chairs to sit down in as well as a table for larger groups. The earth tones help you relax and settle down to enjoy your coffee.

And then….then there is the ‘humming machine’ over on the left side. It’s the largest coffee roasting machine I’ve ever seen. Not that I’ve seen many. But it has this gigantic cylinder with big ol’ hoses runnin’ from it up through the ceiling.

And it has some knobs on the front and a crank you use to make it hum.

A middle-aged man goes over to it and pours coffee beans in and cranks it up. As you sit drinking your cappuccino, there’s a hum as the machine does its magic.

I don’t know what magic there is in the beans it spits out after its done with ‘em. But they sure do brew up a tasty cup o’ joe.

As I sit drinking my cappuccino and reading a book (marketing, of course), I notice the dull hum in the background. Yet, reliably, predictably, the machine spits out perfectly roasted coffee beans.

Such is your web site.

It is your money machine that spits out orders. And done right, it makes a beautiful hum as it works on your behalf.

For that machine to grind out roasted beans, you have to input raw beans….the raw materials. The same goes for your web site. You need traffic. That is your raw material.

This summer, the number of new, highly touted Internet marketing products is going to match last summer’s. It’ll be somewhere between a fireworks show and a freak show. He who has the most dazzling fireworks show and best illustrated affiliate action with the largest prizes wins.

Last summer it was the BMW car for the first place winner. This year, maybe it’ll be the Lambo. So if you want to crank up your affiliate program, there’s no doubt that a good offer and sizzling prizes works.

But how much do these offers have to do with you?

So you buy the program. You learn the deep, dark secrets. Then what?

Where does that leave YOU? You’ve got $1,000 to $5,000 less in your bank. That’s for certain. But are you any better off?

I’m an advocate of education. I DO believe buying programs that FIT your model. I do NOT believe in buying things just because a lot of people sell them “so they must be good.”

If you don’t already know this, the BIG SECRET behind massive launches with many affiliates simultaneously promoting is NOT the quality or usefulness of the product to ANYONE. It boils down to how much preparation went into it (sometimes months of work). And how big the affiliate prizes are. (Like I said:) Last year, the big prize was a BMW car.

So far this year, it’s a Rolex. But I think a Lambo car may be in the mix. You know, the next gigantic launch has to have affiliate prizes that trump the prior one.

None of this is BAD or wrong. I happen to like the people involved in these launches. The problem comes when people buy something based on the social proof of everyone and their dog promoting it EVEN IF it has nothing to do with your model for making money.

I don’t care if a chorus of 100,000 angels sing in unison (motivated by the desire to win crazy prizes) that you should buy an info product. That does NOT in one iota make it more VALID or useful to you.

It’s all about the model. What’s the model? Is it relevant to you?

The prizes are good. I have no problem with them. It’s a great deal for affiliates. But YOU need to be an educated consumer. Because I’m telling you right now. Between now and the end of September, it’s going to get crazy with launches.

OK. So I’m assuming you’ve bought some “secrets.” Maybe a lot of “secrets.” Where do you go NEXT?

If you take away all the smoke and mirrors (which is what I help people do), in spite of all the hype, there are only a FEW ways you make money in this market:

Products: Most people sell info products. You have ebooks, CD’s and courses, coaching, teleseminars, membership sites and so forth.

Traffic: You get that from organic seo, pay per click, and associate programs. You can also buy banners. Most viral marketing that works is a derivation of an affiliate or associate program.

Sales conversion: You have webinars, teleseminars and sales letters. A lot of people have gone to verbal selling because they suck at writing sales letters.

Products + Traffic + Sales Conversion = Cash

Here are my NINE LAWS of Internet marketing:

Law one: At the end of the day, you still have to IMPLEMENT. You have to do.
Law two: Learning secrets is more fun and sexy than doing.
Law three: The money is in the doing.
Law four: Doing is frustrating because you will always run into snags and things that don’t work as simple or easy as you wish they would.
Law five: The people who win DO. They implement. The people who don’t DO, don’t make money.
Law six: You can get so stuck in “learning secrets” that you never do.
Law seven: If it’s dirt simple with no brain required, if all you do is push a button and money comes in — then all the opportunity has already been sucked out. You will NOT make money long term because there IS no barrier to entry and everyone will jump on board.
Law eight: When everyone jumps on board, the opportunity is often gone. Blue Ocean book was right.
Law nine: Problems are good. They provide barriers to entry for competitors. It’s the most basic law of supply and demand.

I believe in buying secrets. I believe in specialized knowledge and know how. I also believe the most important part of the whole equation is what you DO.

What you DO is as important as what you KNOW.

Doing requires confronting what is NOT comfortable to you. Watching DVD’s and going to seminars is comfortable. DOING is not.

Why? It’s a learning curve. Things don’t work. Things aren’t as simple as you wish. That’s part of life.

But if you really wanna make it happen, you gotta focus on DOING.

And the main reason I bring up this uncomfortable and unpopular truth is because I want you to succeed.

My products for the most part are NOT about secrets. They’re about DOING. Yeah, that isn’t as sexy and interesting and fun.

But do you wanna be entertained? Or do you wanna make money?

Honestly.

If you wanna be entertained by the biggest fireworks show and dazzling simultaneous blitzkriegs of promotions by affiliates, then have a good time.

Enjoy the show.

Personally, for entertainment I recommend movies, comedy shows and magic shows. But it’s whatever floats your boat.

If you wanna make money, then buy your know-how carefully and focus on DOING. You don’t HAVE unless you DO.

If you’re STUCK and just can’t get it going, I recommend: Anthony Robbins 30-day personal power program.

You gotta confront ACTION. You gotta do things you are NOT comfortable with. You gotta pick up the phone and call people or do interviews. You gotta write things like sales letters that are new learning curves.

And yes, you can outsource some or all of the above – IF you have the money to do it. And confront SPENDING the money to hire people to do things. And confront the idea you probably will end up spending money on some things that are junk or done wrong.

QUESTIONS:

The basic questions are “Who are you selling to?”, “What you selling them?”, and “How are you finding them?”

But I’ll spell them out:

Do you have your target market or target audience yet? That for a lot of people is the point at which they stop or get stuck. All things being equal, you’re best off selling something you can at least get passionate about. If I wasn’t doing the Internet marketing thing, I’d be doing info products on magic or chess or public speaking. Or perhaps something about coffee.

Have you done your 12 product survey? Gimme My Money Now has my system for this.

Do you have your sales letter written? My best tool for this is Push Button Sales Letters, but you get best results if you combine it with basic know how about Sales Copy

Do you have your affiliate program? Even if you use organic seo and/or pay-per-click, it ONLY makes sense to drop your customers into an affiliate program and get them promoting for you. That’s what my Affiliate Dashboard will help you DO. Affiliate Dashboard – there aren’t a lot of SEXY secrets in it. It’s a DOINGness product to help make it faster, simpler, easier and cheaper to set up your affiliate program.

Design Dashboard – Helps you design your site or at least tweak what a designer does for you. Helps you save a lot on autoresponders, hosting and pictures. A to Z. My most thorough Dashboard to date. It’s another DOING product. And yeah, it isn’t perfect or flawless or all EASY. I’ve tried to make it that way.

But if you can’t CONFRONT something that isn’t perfectly easy…honestly, keep your day job.

You can either confront action. Confront doing. Confront problems that have to be solved. Confront things that aren’t perfect.

Or you can’t.

If it was all a piece of cake, we would all be rich now, wouldn’t we?

In the past, I talked about the seduction of “easy” methods. If you look back at the things I talked about, you’ll see most of the money you spent buying them was totally wasted.

Yet, it was an unpopular truth when I told you the truth. I actually got some of the most vicious emails when I wrote those things. Because a LOT of players had vested interest in teaching those methods we ALL knew wouldn’t work a year or two down the road.

But darnit, they sure were SEXY and easy to sell.

The people who sold those programs made millions in some cases.

So how did those methods work out for you?

They didn’t, did they?

I’ve been preaching and teaching about the songs of the sirens for HOW long now?

OK. So a nice gentleman writes me that he avoided the songs of the sirens, created a product and it didn’t make money.

And he blamed me more or less. That’s part of marketing. NOT all products work. I don’t care WHO you are. You pick yourself up. Do a new survey. And move on. You look at what the market IS buying.

Are you gonna DO?

Are you gonna CONFRONT?

Are you gonna have a clear model and stick to it? Or get sidetracked every week but a blitzkrieg of fireworks, flash and dash?

Do a million angels on a pinhead singing praises for a model that doesn’t fit what your doing or won’t work a year from now make it any more valid for YOU?

Engage your brain.

Best wishes,

Marlon Sanders

They’re coming out of the woodwork now.

People who want their own online business – whether for pocket change or to change their lives – and they’re buying up all the old $5 master rights ebooks on eBay. The ones that teach how to run an online business in your underwear and make a million dollars this year.

Five to ten a week. That’s how many end up on my virtual door, and make a personal contact with me via phone, or email, or both.

Now this isn’t a problem for me. There’s a reason why I put contact forms and publish email addresses, leave my home phone number in plain view on most of my websites, and tell my subscribers (in 40% of my emails) to write back if they have any questions…it’s a pleasure to give back to the world which has blessed me so much by helping another on their journey into internet business.

Actually, it’s more than a pleasure – it’s a virtual blessing.

But there’s something a little wrong with some of the wanna be entrepreneurs landing on my doorstep this month. More wrong than just believing the lie that a million can be made overnight. More wrong than thinking a $5 ebook written 5 years ago is going to teach the strategy that is required to make a business flourish today.

Let me give you an example.

Last month a pleasant gentleman from Hawaii called. (He’s actually spent more than his rent money a few months over on outdated materials.) He’d learned how to get traffic, he’d learned about squeeze pages, and he’d built a list of over a thousand subscribers in a few short months. The only trouble was he didn’t know what to sell them! And, when trying to sell them a product or two that he had resale rights to, not one of his follow up emails made a sale!

Now this new online entrepreneur is savvy enough to know that he needed to learn a thing or two about conversion. A thing or two about building a relationship with his subscriber list. But one thing he didn’t consider was that he really needed to learn about the nature of the 2007 website visitor and authenticity.

Yes, 2007′s website visitor is a little different than 2006′s – very different from 2005′s, in more ways than you can shake a stick at.

But today I just want to talk about authenticity…

This gentleman, his website URL, and his advertising to match, had to do with WAHMs (work at home moms). And when people arrive on his site they’re hit with an audio recording (man’s voice) and a very blah looking page asking the visitor “What’s your most burning question about working from home?”.

Now if you were a work at home mom what’s the first thing you’d do after landing on that site? Buy something? Sign up for the newsletter? Ask a question? Or click the big red X in the top right of your browser window – not believing for a moment that any work at home woman put this resource together for other WAHMs?

It Gets Worse

The part that is so terribly wrong about this new entrepreneur is that his mission is to teach women how to make money from home – without ever having made more than he’s spent learning the business!

Okay, here’s another example of a new entrepreneur and lack of authenticity…

This one’s new this week from a customer at my Web 2.0 traffic strategy site.

I’ll give it to you verbatim.

hi laura,

i’ve read the the stampede secret 4 times and im still having a hard time understanding what im suppose to do with the rss feed. i have a sales letter website that i want to direct traffic to i dont want to blog right now i just want to use the rss feed. in the ebook you had mentioned the rss submit would this software help me get the traffic i need? the website that i want to put on the web is an ebook on becoming an affiliate earning a monthly residual income. the wesite is not on the web yet but will be soon. right now im very frustrated in trying to understand whats going on . could you please help? thank you

Of course I am more than thrilled to help him out. I work with a few entrepreneurs already co-designing their Web 2.0 marketing strategy – but this entrepreneur didn’t know that he had to have an RSS feed in order to do something with it – so I knew I was in for a long session.

Leaving the Blog/RSS Feed connection conversation aside for a moment I returned an email to him on authenticity and the Web 2.0 surfer’s mindset. Here’s my response…

Tony, I’d be honored to help you.

Let’s put the RSS Feed aspect of a website to the back burner for a moment – especially since you don’t have a site, a blog, or content to put in a feed yet.

Besides that, using ‘feeds’ on social sites is only one component of Web 2.0 marketing strategy.

Web 2.0 – the big picture – is what you want to grasp first. As you’ve read if you’re not active in your marketplace you’re going to really struggle getting sales in this day and age. The age of slapping up a mini-site with a product for sale and sending traffic to it without any further involvement is, sadly, practically over. Ask any of the ‘straight-shooter’ marketers (who aren’t trying to sell you a product on how to create or sell products with a mini-site) for the truth and they’ll tell you the exact same thing.

So what does it mean to be involved in your marketplace?

There’s a lot to this – depending on your website, your product, and the strategy you design – but in your case we’ll carry on with the assumption that you’re selling an ebook on how to make money every month by being an affiliate…

First of all, I hope you’re actually accomplishing this because if you’re not, online surfers today will either demand proof or at the very least expect your Web 2.0 social marketing persona to be knowledgable and genuine. You’ll need to create a presence with an air of authority, ‘give to get’ (give good advice and techniques to gain their trust for a sale), and be seen by the customers you’re trying to win over.

I’ll assume that you ARE accomplishing earning money every month as an affiliate for the rest of this email…

And that you want to do nothing more (for now at least) than host a mini-site with a salesletter and an order button.

You don’t want to blog on your own site (you said so, although I would encourage you to rethink your strategy as blogging gives you both credibility and an automatic RSS Feed of your content, which you would then use on social websites) so the ALTERNATIVE is to expend that energy on a Web 2.0 social site.

You need to put yourself in the path of your customer, you need to put your URL in the path of your customers. The best way to do this (without blogging on your own site and using the feed generated by the blog) is to DEFINE your market, DETERMINE where those people are spending their time online (trust me they’re all on Web 2.0 sites as you read in the Stampede Secret’s research), then DEVELOP your presence on that Web 2.0 site.

To sum up, Web 2.0 Marketing is all about building trust, helping out, positioning yourself as a friend or an authority and doing all that in the right places on the right sites.

I’m going to leave you with that for a moment. This is only the beginning of our conversation. I will carry you right through to making the decisions necessary for your most effective Web 2.0 marketing strategy and see you get started. But first I wanted to make sure the ‘basics’ of Web 2.0 make sense to you and that you remain dedicated to your initial plan on selling an ebook on affiliate marketing without blogging on site.

Write back your thoughts – your questions – a change in plans if you make them and we’ll move onto the next steps in my next email…

Thankfully Tony bowed out of his online business idea – to sell a product on a mini-site with no further effort and no experience on the topic. Hopefully he will re-write his business plan to something that suits him, understanding that any business requires risk and effort and most especially in 2007, authenticity.

For my readers today, let Tony’s email above be a warning! Thousands of sellers are selling products on topics they don’t have a clue about – although it may be okay to buy a product from them, you’d never want to ask their advice in followup as it may not be of the highest caliber.

Could you imagine buying a book from Tony (in the example above) on making money every month with affiliate programs and then going to him for advice on which products to promote (given that he’s got no experience doing it)? For that matter how about asking him how to get traffic to your affiliate website (given that he thinks a $19 piece of software could deliver the traffic)?

It’s no wonder that social marketing has taken over the internet – it’s the only ‘game-free’ system (for the most part) that buries the fakers of online business.

Be true to your interests, allow your personality to show online, and by all means be authentic!

Okay so you already know that I spend a lion’s share of my time online reading, testing and reviewing products and strategies that pique my interest and sound viable. And that the thrill of Web 2.0 is what turns my eye.

You may also know that I don’t post here very often unless I’ve found something that actually (a) helps you with traffic, (b) helps you with making more money online, or (c) teaches you new strategies for either of those.

This week wasn’t the best time to take on a review…

I’ve been volunteering at the local schools and graduations are on the horizon – I’ve more than my hands full, but when chatting with a fellow internet marketer (Luke) in email he began to unravel a strategic plan he had just started showing others – a strategy he’s been perfecting for months and that his members were already succeeding in – people who’d never managed to make a dime online before…

Usually that stuff turns me off but the mix of Web 2.0 techniques in the strategy got me excited enough to take time out and read it.

The story goes that once I had it on my computer screen I could neither stop reading it (only to wander around the house chewing on the strategy bit by bit), nor return to my obligations — without first logging into the member’s area to see what goodness was stacked in there.

The member’s area was as good as the PDF. Actually I’d say it was better because the part of this whole “fast money, residual money, subscribers, affiliate sales’ system that I love is the tag-team (aka circles).

And THAT is when I realized I had to write about this. Because no one else is disclosing how they’re turning out twice the gain for 1/2 the work – and believe me most internet marketers that have found ways to do this – but they’re keeping it to themselves.

I know for a fact that Luke was even apprehensive about sharing it and even though he knows that sounds like marketing hype he has no qualms being honest about it. I would have wrestled with this too – “Should I share it with the world or should I just keep working it?”

The strategy lends itself to fast income, more traffic, residual income, and increase in the value of any site you own. Period.

Luke refers to it as ‘Web 2.0 Chess’ as if it is a game, but in fact it is much more than that…especially since you’re not playing alone and because the moves are already laid out in an easy to follow system.

Now I don’t want to give away all his secrets here (I couldn’t anyway he’s got a 67 page pdf and an entire member’s area devoted to the variety of ways you can play this)…

But at it’s simplest, Luke’s strategy is a fast-step knock-out punch that gets the maximum benefit for the least effort. (No, it’s not selling hosting accounts or health products or anything you’ve likely heard before…)

What will you need?

1. First, you have to be an American resident. (I’m raised in Massachusetts but living in Canada right now…and I’ll still be working this strategy anyway – you’ll see me shortly in the member’s area because this is too good to let a physical address hold me back!)

2. You need to have at least one website or blog. And yes you can do this from blogger or a free wordpress account or Squidoo pages, but promise me you’ll get your own domain after you get your first check… Can’t create a website or blog? Luke’s got you covered – see the member’s area.

3. You need Luke’s report and member’s access.

4. Time. One hour to read the report. One day to let it mull around in your mind (and realize that it’s very simple to get started). One to two hours to get your feet wet and implement. Then I suggest you devote 3 hours a week to keep the value flowing…

There’s nothing left uncovered.

Or anything that you might need help with that isn’t already, or won’t be, supplied.

Luke and the others are there to answer questions, help out and hand over any tools should you need them.

I’m worried this email reads like a sign-up-join a-team-and-recruit oppurtunity. I would NEVER recommend something like that to you – but there is a team (rather a ‘tag’ team) and in this Web 2.0 world you NEED to be on a team to get and stay on top.

There are a ton of great tips in the PDF – stuff I have yet to hear the gurus talking about…

see page 29 (section 5b) for the fastest way to get your newest pages into Google’s index (I haven’t even been using this to full capacity!)

see page 32 for the most recent ping list

see page 45 for a better spin on the StomperNet tip I gave you last week (makes you more, therefore makes much more sense!)

see page 46 for the fastest ways to get your newest pages into Yahoo’s index (without that nasty pricetag)

and page 55-56, the strategy to get double the results with 1/2 the work…

At any rate, read it all and start right away.

And before you think a strategy and tag-team like this costs more than you want to spend, it is NOT a monthly membership fee (although I am trying to talk Luke into that because it’s worth it), nor is it an expensive product.

You owe it to your income and traffic to be a part of this….

I’ll see you, as usual, at the top!

Laura Childs

p.s. once you’re in you’ll find me under the username ‘smartzville’ – I’ll be there helping out as a fellow member…

p.s.s of course you can always leave a comment and expect a reply if you have questions…

p.s.s.s You may hear in the forums about Luke’s affiliate contest. It’s important that you know that I am not using the contest links he’s provided to his JV partners. I am not telling you about this product to win a contest – I am telling you about it because I believe in it.

Today I let the cat out of the bag about one of internet marketing’s best kept secrets…

It’s a site that is in Alexa’s top 22,000 (which is a pretty decent place to be!) for traffic. As comparison, Dr. Joe Vitale’s website is only 32,000 and it’s been online about 10 years.

The beauty of this traffic secret is that not many are using it to it’s full potential because it sure does get the readers!

Back to what I was saying…

I let the cat out of the bag, I told the world about how fantastic this site is for passing PR, supplying a fresh targeted traffic stream, and just generally being a fun place to visit (for internet marketers).

And wonder of wonders the site owner sends out an email that reads: “Stop Using PlugIM” (his site).

I thought for a moment he wanted me to stop sending him more traffic! Turns out he just wanted to talk about a new book he was reading…

Here’s the rest of his email (I hope the next message Ryan sends me doesn’t say “Stop Publishing My eMails”

You need to stop using PlugIM, or any other source of so called “Web 2.0″ traffic generation methods, until you’ve read this.

A fellow PlugIM member, Laura Childs, has put together one hell of a resource for leveraging the power of social bookmarking and social networks to drive more traffic to your sites.

It was released today and I’m reading it now. It’s over 50 pages of information, research, theory and data that Laura has put together over the last year.

I highly recommend picking up a copy. Find out more about “Stampede Secret” here:

http://www.plugim.com/stampedesecret/

Look for the latest edition of the PlugIM newsletter in the next couple of days. Thanks for your continued support!

Here’s a new traffic resource for you…

But before I send you there, and since I never blindly recommend resources, there are a few things I need to tell you first – to ensure that your time is protected. I’m very protective of my time so you can bet I take the same considerations with yours!

If you’re on any internet marketer’s list they’ll likely use the pre-written email that says “this will work for years to come” and “includes every important Web 2.0 social marketing tactic and website that you could ever want to know about and use to bring in traffic through social marketing.”

Don’t believe it for a minute.

The content will not stand the test of time since Web 2.0 sites are being discovered daily and can hit the top traffic charts within a month’s time (making the ebook outdated within weeks of release).

Web 2.0 traffic techniques are in their infancy. They require a unique approach to make a huge difference to your own site traffic.

I invite you to grab the link to the ebook, as well as learn what’s valuable and what’s not about it, and how to protect your time when you begin to employ these strategies at Free Web 2.0 Traffic ebook

This will take you five minutes to read my assessment and download the ebook, but might save you hours in the long run…

Leave me a note, or ask any questions, via comment or contact form, at any time.

As always,

Laura Childs

p.s. The Stampede Secret has been heavily hit by traffic this month so if the link above does not load for you right away, grab your Web 2.0 traffic ebook here, then stop in at: http://www.stampedesecret.com/web20/smart-web20/ in a few hours to get my honest assessment.

“The uproar and popularity contests started with Amazon and eBay, then slowly moved into what we now call Web 2.0.” – Laura Childs

It’s very important that you quickly gather and understand as much information as is available, as soon as you can because the shape of what’s already transpired – and coming still – will be the new definition of online success for the small business or solo entrepreneur.

And I fear that many will fail – returning back to their 9-5 jobs with little to show but skepticism about making money online and a load of debt from buying products that employ techniques that no longer work in this new Web 2.0 world.

This isn’t a fear tactic in play. This isn’t even a product pitch. Actually I’ve got nothing to sell, unless it’s to sell you on this idea. And I must do my job and get you hooked on the concept because your success is at stake here.

Let me explain…

Two celebrations happen in our home this week. My daughter turns 13 and I celebrate my 10th anniversary of working online from home. In those 10 years I’ve been sucked in, scammed, befriended, sleepless, and successful. But we’ve never struggled and we’ve never gone hungry.

Now I’ve never been quite so personal with you, I know.

There’s a reason why I am being so today…

I need you to stop running the treadmill.

Stop paying for traffic that doesn’t convert.

Stop buying and reading ebooks on how to successfully write and sell ebooks. One is enough.

Stop buying into monthly membership websites that teach how to build a lucrative membership website.

The rules of success online HAVE changed.

The research shows that surfers aren’t using the web the way they did even a year ago. So why on earth are we all still buying up products and services on how to make it online that were written last year?

(This is precisely why, in October of 2006, I pulled two of my most successful products off the market even though people are clamoring for them still…)

Now I know this message isn’t an easy read. And I’m sad to report to you that I don’t have a fast and easy fix.

But I have been working hard at assessing where we’ve been (after 10 years that’s not hard at all), what’s hot right now, and how to use that knowledge to keep you and I both on the path to success.

In essense, I’ve sifted through a lot of useless info that won’t do much more than waste your precious time.

I’ve also found a lot of great stuff and I’d be pleased to share it with you – to get you further along the path to success, quicker.

I can’t let you fail at this. I have a personal responsibility to you as one of my loyal readers.

Actually it’s been so long since I’ve written, you quite likely have already forgotten me. That’s alright, it was the chance I had to take when I began compiling the information I wanted to one day share with you.

Below you will find a few links to some posts I’ve made about Web 2.0 on my other site about blogs, rss and the new web 2.0.

Stop in and catch up on what’s shaking and shaping the web and how you can benefit from these new trends.

There’s much more on the site, over 40 posts in total, but I’ll let you discover what you need to know, when you’re ready.

Drop me a note via comment at any time if you have questions, okay?

To Your Money Making Future!

Laura Childs

p.s. I might add that I don’t mean to talk you out of buying other marketer’s products unless (a) they’re very new and teach new techniques, or (b) you’re very new and haven’t learned the basics of website creation yet. My only intention was to say that you don’t need 5 ebooks on writing and selling ebooks, 4 swipe files on copywriting, 3 membership sites with resale rights…you understand.

(Updated since post on 02/22/07: Jason Cain has a great podcast released this morning 03/09/07 at: online marketing is changing)

Yet another Matt Cutts video. This one talks about how Google ranks (and passes ranks to, from and throughout) dyanmically generated web pages versus static urls. Matt also briefly discuses the use of parameters and session IDs – the do and do not – to using them. This was a huge concern of mine when I first started setting up to make money with my ebay affiliate stores. I was a little worried that Google would never index or pass rank to those pages.

Even though the ebay affiliate script programmer assured me that my pages would be indexed, the latest Google update was what really convinced me. Matt’s video explains why they get indexed and now have page rank.

NOTE: There’s a huge hint in this video about making your dynamic pages appear to be static pages to the googlebot. This is something I’ve been preaching to people for the past two years and is one of the most often overlooked feature of WordPress to the uninitiated – permalink structure.

The latter part of this video Matt discusses geo-targeting sites (something that’s been very hot this past 12 months) and whether Google penalizes those sites as the varying bots may consider these sites to be cloaked (a black-hat no-no). If you have a site that serves up geo-targeted content and you’re concerned that you’re being sandboxed or black-listed, Matt tells you how to fix the communication problem between your content and the googlebot in the last two minutes.

If you’re still confused over cloaking, parameters and google – jump into this next video around the 2 minutes 30 seconds mark.

Finally, if you have any idea or personal preferance to share on the Ginger vs. Marianne selection, leave me a note would you? (Watch the video to make sense of that question if you can! Careful though, you’ll be showing your age!)

’till later,

And even though I’m loathe to write much over the holiday season, I did want to talk to you a bit more about Web 2.0 and how you can benefit from the changes that are upon us.

TRAFFIC! The lifeblood of any online business.

Web 2.0 has already started changing the face of website traffic – where your visitors come from, and whether they’ll be spending, subscribing, or leaving your site in boredom.

Last week I disclosed to you one of my earlier Web 2.0 traffic techniques (if you missed it, see Web 2.0 traffic technique).

Then I sent you in the direction of a group of respected marketers who are teaching us to use 2.0 sites to send oodles of visitors to your existing site(s).

The audio and transcript is still free if you want to check it out again – see Web 2.0 traffic interview.

BUT…

What’s missing here is an in-depth and thorough explanation of Web 2.0 – with an explanation of why it’s taking over the internet.

I CANNOT stress this enough.

I was singing about Blogs and RSS feeds in the summer of 2004 with ‘The Stampede Secret’ (now removed from the market) and clients who paid
attention reaped the rewards.

This year I’ll be singing and sharing about 2.0 traffic and sites (not limited to, nor does it even require, tagging and pinging), as well as creating a few of my own 2.0 sites.

AND I do hope you’ll join me in this revolution because the ‘other side’ is loaded with rewards.

If you want a leg up on understanding 2.0 and/or how you can create your own sites that will appeal to the new, more demanding, web surfer,
let me tell you about a great read I’ve just finished!

The main manual is 150 pages, but it’s written so well you’ll soar through it. Plus two bonus reports, and finally secret blog access to watch ‘over the shoulder’ from conception to launch of a real 2.0 site! And the price is laughably low.

Definately my top choice of 2006.

Prepare yourself for 2007 and check this out now (I don’t know how many clients will be allowed access before he pulls down the last bonus).

Build a Web 2.0 site

Enjoy the last days of this holiday season, and I’ll see you again in 2007 (hip hip hooray!).

I’m excited about the changes to come and I hope you are as well,

Laura Childs
www.smartzville.com

p.s. Yes, throughout next year I will be sharing more of my 2.0 traffic secrets, but little will prepare you better than to watch a 2.0 site being born beginning with the idea. Don’t wait until it’s too late to learn about this…Learn to build a Web 2.0 site.

—————–

(edited February 12, 2007 — The other offer, on Web 2.0 traffic, is ending soon. The free interview will coming down and the price of the package doubling. This is not my product so I have no control over pricing or free content availability but I am telling you, get it now before it’s gone for good or so expensive that you’ll kick yourself for waiting: Web 2.0 traffic interviews.

Earlier I emailed my loyal subscribers with one of my favorite ways to get a free traffic flow of predisposed or prequalified visitors to their websites.

I thought you might like to know as well, since you’re here and loyal in your own right. (Gosh I hope you’re loyal and visit often to see what’s new!)

My Christmas gift to you is one of my biggest secrets – instant traffic to new sites without pay-per-click fees.

Believe me I know this sounds impossible, but case studies prove it…

It’s not some automated software tool, and there’s no cost. It’s Web 2.0 made easy.

You’ll actually need to put some effort into it, but the return on time is well worth it and I’ve got my own set of results to know this works in spades!

It doesn’t stop as a simple traffic generating strategy either. This is also a page rank sharing strategy that I’ve kept under my hat and only shared with close friends long enough.

The strategy has survived one major google update and has brought me plenty of traffic in a number of niches…

If you’re real savvy you’ll quickly figure out how to work this for the best results but if you need a little extra help I know of only one group of marketers who are even discussing, much less disclosing, their own secrets on these Web 2.0 techniques (and they’ve let the cat out of the bag in a free report – I’ll show you where in a minute….)

This is a completely non-geek strategy.

You write a few paragraphs about what you want to do or have already accomplished in life, and share it in a thriving community. People with similar desires, interests or goals end up reading your entries and following your links.

If you’re clever (and I know you are), you’ll post your paragraphs on high traffic pages (preferably with page rank) and you’ll link to your own web pages within those paragraphs.

Let me give you an example of the strategy and where I’m employing it…

This PR4 page: http://www.43things.com/things/view/92172 is all about people who want to make money blogging.

Two months ago I wrote an entry on that page that provides a worthy and helpful link to inexpensive hosting…

People follow, I make an affiliate commission.

Search engine robots follow, I get some ranking points.

I’ve just outlined the simplest of strategies you can employ with 43things.com

There are more, many more…

CONSIDER higher traffic and ranked pages – over 11,000 real people on 43things want to write a book. It’s on a PR6 page.

CONSIDER people who need help – 2,485 insomniacs are looking for ways to get more sleep on a PR5 page.

CONSIDER markets related to your own sites – 11,176 people want to fall in love on a PR6 page. Can you help these people with a product or link to a service? You’ll find them (plus all the others who visit this page but who don’t write or register, at 43things.com/things/view/33

If you see the value of this through my simple secret then you’re all set to start making sales, commissions or getting great backlinks right away.

If you don’t see how this benefits your business then it’s time to go back to web school to refresh your knowledge on target markets, keyword research, and more importantly how the internet is changing.

Talk of Web 2.0 isn’t some scare tactic I’m hitting you with – I’ve been working online for 9 years now this January. If you want your business to survive and thrive you need to take this seriously, and get the knowledge you need.

I’m prepared to publicly predict that we’ll see a lot of the old-timers, who think they’ve got www business all tied up, go down with the coming changes. This will open the doors wide for those who are ready to “ebb and flow with Web 2.0″

May you be one of them!

Truly dedicated to your success,

Laura Childs

P.S. I forgot to tell you who else is talking about the strategy I’ve started you with today. None other than search engine experts Dr. Mike Woo-Ming, Jeff Johnson, and Howie Schwartz.

Web 2.0, thematic search and search engine optimization. They are all interconnected - get it right and profit. Get it wrong and lose. It's not a scare tactic...Web 2.0 is here!
Thematic Search is a post from: Make Money Online by Marketing Your Business

Thematic search is finally here.

The SEO experts (those beloved geeks still working in the trenches and not the SEO experts that are involved in high profile marketing) – have been talking about this for well over a year now.

We all knew it was coming right? And we’ve all been making steady and consistent changes to the way we write and publish content, correct?

No, you say?

Well, I’ll let you in on my secret then, since (in this regard) you’re one of the underachievers in preparation for the new Google.

I haven’t done much to prepare either!

But we’ll be okay…here’s why:

The buzzword is Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI), it’s the new part of both Google and AltaVista’s algorithm.

If you’ve been watching, your positioning in Google and AltaVista’s results have been ebbing and swaying as all this is sorted out. And even though new pages on your site might be indexed and included (and even get top ranks) you’ll find no google PR showing up in your browser’s toolbar (yet).

It boils down to this, and I’m trying to keep it simple because I know you don’t want to read a bunch of geek-speak and formulas…

LSI is similar to artificial intelligence.

LSI scans and evaluates your entire page looking for both the most relevant keywords for result positioning, as well as related keywords.

LSI also scans and assesses your entire site content for relevancy between the pages (your site’s overall theme).

LSI gives higher ranking to pages that have many words in common (i.e., semantically close), and lower ranking to pages with few words in common.

Top Tip for Pleasing the New Algorithm

When working on your website content write for your readers first and you’ll find that your page will naturally contain the synonyms, antonyms, variations, and other related words. You can later go back over the content and edit further for semantically related phrases.

Other Thematic Tips:

Instead of starting your page with your primary keyword, start with a modifier or non-keyword instead.

Practice keyword stemming. Plural, singular, prefixed and suffixed variations of your keyword.

Mix up your in-site navigational link text.

Keep your page content related to your site’s overall theme, but unique in content.

Use synonyms and antonyms and descriptive related text in your copy.

If you’re wondering how to uncover some of the semantic phrases for your future website content start first with your favorite keyword research tool. You’ll get back a list of related keyword phrases that contain your primary keyword.

For instance my standard keyword research results for ‘rustic lighting’ are:

rustic lighting fixture

rustic outdoor lighting

rustic bathroom lighting

rustic cabin lighting

rustic track lighting

Just remember standard keyword research is great for stemming and link text but will do you little good for modifiers or semantics. For those terms I head over to the free ‘cluster search’ tool at and find some thematic words I might include in my content:

The results give me some great ideas for semantic, modifier, or thematic words.

furniture

antler

lodge

log

free shipping

western

country

outdoor

ceiling

floor lamps

…all phrases served up by this MSN beta tool, but that I know both Google and AltaVista want to see on my site (if my entire site was about rustic lighting), or on my page (if my site was about decor and my page was about rustic lighting).

Now, this is why you and I are ‘set’ for the changes over at Google and AltaVista

Because we’ve been writing to our readers in a manner that serves them. Our sites are themed on a broad topic and our pages are focused and unique on just one aspect of that topic. Given that, we shouldn’t lose our rank and positioning. But if you have lost some of your top results, it’s time to do a little semantic keyword research.

“The ultimate goal of LSI is to reward pages that are well written and that have genuine value to the searcher. With LSI, using a good keyword in the wrong context, will get you a lower relevance ranking. This means that site developers will no longer be able to score high search placements simply by loading sites with desirable keywords or a multitude of links.” –JOHN ALEXANDER, searchengineworkshops.com

Feel free to post any questions or comments about latent semantic indexing, search engine algorithms, thematic search, or keyword phrases below. I’ll do my best to answer in a way that makes sense, as will (I hope) other SEO experts who happen by here.

See you at the top of the search engines!

p.s. The average search takes 3-5 minutes. OptiRanker is a paid monthly service at $49.95 and is not for the budget minded entrepreneur – of course this tool does much more than simply deliver semantic phrases.
