Traffic Expert Tells All

I just read a brilliant new article about the recent goings on over at google…

You see I was having some trouble on one of my sites. Pages that had held a PR of 4 or more were now sporting 0 page rank and they’d moved down considerably in the results page for the keywords I’d targeted during my keyword research stage. It’s important to note that this happened on both old established websites as well as sites less than 6 months of age. Further, it hasn’t happened to all pages site-wide, never a home page or a category index page, just a select few content pages.

Odd?

I’d say so. I had no choice but to hit the forums, news groups and blogs of the most trusted traffic experts. I don’t know about you but I have to read that stuff twice to ‘get’ it most of the time. And then it’s a matter of guess work - which traffic expert to listen to, which theory makes the most sense, what is the general consensus and what is just rumor-mill dribble? (Generally with just a little thought regarding google’s business strategy and the writer’s style you can figure out whose posts are all hype and dribble.)

And usually, the posts that you have to read twice to understand are the ones that hold water and turn out to be ‘what actually happened’ - 4 months after the fact.

If you can find a search engine optimization expert who is actually active in the field, who explains the theory and helps you to learn along the way (so you won’t have to read everything twice), you’ve struck gold. Follow that expert!

John Reese is one of those experts. But he’s costly at over a thousand bills per product and hours of your time. If you’ve got the money and the time, he’s the guy to follow - but most of us are short on these two commodities…

So where do you learn? Who puts it in plain English that you can learn and grow from? That depends solely on you and your style of learning. You’ve got to find someone you ‘click’ with.

There are plenty of good products on generating traffic and increasing page rank that more or less contain the same information as each other - what differs is the writer’s style, how that style ’speaks’ to you, and if the techniques apply to your website (content, minisite, blog or forum).
