This is a back-to-basics post for entrepreneurs too busy for Web 2.0 marketing…

Is it me or is everyone seeing an increase of website owners looking for solutions to their decrease in traffic?

It can’t be me.

If you’re an internet marketing trainer or operate an internet marketing website I’m sure you’re getting more emails and blog comments from frustrated website owners than any other time in your site’s lifespan. Am I right?

After a few emails back and forth, this ‘market’ of site owners aren’t the super-savvy, up-to-date, entrepreneurs – but they’re no dummies either!

These are people who had a mini-site that sold a product or two, did their due diligence at launch and used to make between $300-$1000 a month in automated sales (primarily through Clickbank but a few are solely PayPal merchants).

They were making automated sales, but not anymore. This isn’t due to any ClickBank or PayPal glitches overnight. They’re reporting a steady decrease throughout 2007.

They’ve lost their page rank. They’ve lost their traffic. They’re losing their subscribers.

And they’re missing that extra cash coming into the household!

These are the online entrepreneurs who are still working full or part-time, out of the home, and were using their online business to supplement their lifestyles. But the money isn’t coming in anymore and for a variety of reasons they don’t have time to strategize or move into social marketing. (Most promise me that they will in a few month’s time, but right now they just need their free traffic back so they can catch up on bills!)

My Solution to A Fast Return on Profit

I’ve decided to take a step back in time here, with a technique that still works to drive traffic and increase search engine ranking. And offering the best deal I can manage on the training and software that gets those niche site owners back on track with their marketing quickly and affordably.

How quick?

2 hours of reading, 2 different ebooks.

2 hours of implementation (following the guidelines and tips in the ebooks).

10 minutes of submission to over 100 sites (via included software).

7-14 days to see an increase in traffic (no promises, this is my personal experience).

How affordable?

$17 – see it here.

Not enough traffic, sales, subscribers or search rank increase?

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Hoping this helps. When it does, promise me you’ll quit your day job and start actively marketing your products, brand, ‘self’, on social networking websites. It is, after all, where the lion’s share of the traffic has gone.

Editor’s Note and Update: There is a very good reason this is one of the most popular posts on this site even though it was written back in October 2007! Far too many online marketers are missing the boat by not paying attention to their RSS feeds. They think their blogs are doing all the heavy lifting in the search engines, but don’t know how to reach even more targeted traffic by re-purposing their feeds. If you can ‘get’ this concept into your mind and implement the technique in a way that makes sense to your market, you can write your own paycheck.

———————
I’ve been out of the loop for the last few months as many of my regular readers know. Working on other projects and not wanting to fill up the world wide web with unnecessary ramblings.

Today I want to share an internet marketing strategy that I initially wrote about in Stampede Secret 2.0, and now hear other trainers teaching (which I’m happy about because this is an elegant way for savvy marketers to drive traffic and increase brand awareness within their target markets).

As an aside, I took the Stampede Secret 2.0 package off the market a few months back when I picked up a demanding corporate assignment and couldn’t focus on the marketing or personalized attention some of my users required. However after receiving many email requests for the course I edited the book (with a stronger focus for niche marketers), and have just today put the ebook back for sale at a price more people could afford. (see http://www.stampedesecret.com/web20/guide for more details). Keep in mind that this is a strategy guide – it’s up to you to determine where you implement the strategy and you have to put your thinking cap on to do so. I’m not about to tell you that one site has all the answers for all the markets online.

Back to the original reason for this post…

Andy Beard wrote about this website today (gooruze.com) and touched on the technique I shared with marketers earlier this year – repurposing your blog’s rss feed on Web 2.0 enabled sites.

I first discovered this hugely beneficial technique on the very busy PlugIM website, then again on Squidoo, and then on BlinkBits and now (via Andy’s direction – Gooruze Preview).

Of course there are countless other places to repurpose your feed content (without penalty and niche market specific) to drive traffic and obtain immediate backlinks to your website – those listed above are just some of my favorite, generic, and/or internet marketing, related.

If Gooruze looks to be up your alley, sign up, add your blog’s feed to your profile (and your photo of course), and be eligible to win $10,000 in Adwords clicks during this early-launch phase. And while you’re there, take a page out of Andy’s power user idea – add your StumbleUpon feed to your profile as well! (A link to it is found in your StumbleUpon user page – lower left orange RSS icon).

Drop me a line and let me know your results in 30 days or so!

Alot of readers are struggling over this whole Web 2.0 topic, so I thought I’d better clear the air and leave some helpful information here.

The term “Web 2.0″ was originally coined by O’Reilly media back in 2004 based on their predictions and trend reporting on where surfers spent their online time and what internet users would want next.

Web 2.0 is a broad term that relates to some relatively new ways to seek and spend (time or money) online.

If you’ve been online as long as I have you’ll remember that there wasn’t much to look at back then and every login (at least my sessions) began with a search engine hunt. I’d start at yahoo, type in my term and hit all the sites that resulted for research or education (there were not millions of results back then). Within an hour you’d be done and disconnect.

Women can relate to these old ways in this manner: you go to a new shopping mall and peek inside or browse every store in the mall. As you move through the stores you’re collecting data – something that your sister would like, something you’d like to save for, a great shop to visit before Christmas, or even never go to that shop again.

The internet grew and so did it’s user count. Junk websites abounded, search results became less relevant, more hours were spent to gather the same quality information that you could grab in an hour (if it even existed).

But not only has the number of pages and sites grown, not only have the numbers of surfers grown, but we as individuals have changed. Most of us have begun the journey of understanding that our tastes, preferences, ideas, class, etc. define us. As such, we become frustrated trying to learn about something from a site created by an unlike mind.

Now if that’s not enough to send you off this post I don’t know what is. I will try to rewrite this for clarity later, but the gist here is that…

“We have learned that we can find easy-to-digest knowledge, that is applicable to our purposes, without all the painful searching and re-searching…if only we could just find someone who ‘speaks our language’. Which seldom is the case when we surf by search engine results.”

Let me give you a personal example…

I’m a business woman 1st, an internet marketer 2nd, and a geek 3rd.

I’ve been all week in research over web-based applications that will assist me in the creation of a social networking site. (Not like myspace or 43things, I’ve got something different in mind.)

The sites that google serves up for my search terms are developer’s websites, programmer’s forums, all written in some kind of geek language that makes little sense to my business woman’s brain. Frustrating as all get out – even for a part geek like me!

The showcased scripts and applications, software and dedicated server languages seldom list a full set of features with working demos and talk of what is to come.

These sites are only of minor assistance because they’re not ‘speaking my language’. Without a marketing mind behind the software I have no idea how each one will integrate with my marketing efforts, serve or attract my target market, monetize my efforts, etc.

I need ‘like minds’ speaking to research my options fully and from that make an educated decision.

That is precisely how we’ve changed as internet users. We’re looking for our clans, our peers, our social equals and it’s all showing up in the sites we frequent!

We aren’t always interested in commenting or sharing our views, but we are certainly interested in reading like-minded others’ thoughts, training, and recommendations.

We’re hunting for people with the same personal goals (43things.com), people with the same interests (cafemom.com), people in the same profession (linkedin.com), and so on.

Web 2.0 is all about online collaboration, the sharing process between users (you don’t have to share to be in this ‘club’, intake of information is, after all, a fractal piece of any collaboration), and the services that facilitate the new way to spend time online*.

That ‘sharing’ began with public bookmark lists (social bookmarking) – “Here are the places I frequent. If they resonate with you, then you’ll want to check out more of those places.” (see deli.cio.us)

The next big wave was social networking – “Here are my friends, favorite music, photos, goals…” (see myspace, flikr, 43things).

I will continue to discuss Web 2.0 until it becomes clearer for you in future posts. In the meantime visit some of the sites within past paragraphs and get a taste for yourself.

As always, leave me notes, questions, or comments below.

Yes, and some recommendations if you’re already running your own social network site with a script that integrates articles, reviews, cards, images, videos, audios and IPN.

Thanks for being here,

Laura Childs
www.smartzville.com

p.s. I’ll say it once more, “to date the best training you can get on understanding and creating 2.0 sites is here“.

—————————–

*I highly suggest setting aside an hour or so and surfing through descriptions of Web 2.0 sites who are already seeing the joys of being ahead of the curve at http://go2web20.net/

It will take you hours to read through the description of each (click on any logo for a short description on the right pane) but doing so will give you a strong understanding of what classifies as a Web 2.0 site.

If you don’t have hours to browse (boy do I understand that!), then use the search tags and search for sites that are meeting your current target market with their trendy innovations. Now you know what you’re up against in the coming months!

I will warn you, the site is a little clunky at the moment, but an upgrade is in the works to improve speed and tag browsing.

Hi Laura:

I just came across your website and blog by accident following links on other websites.

Brilliant I love it.

I came across your posts and video about building wordpress affiliate sites with data feeds, and I’m fascinated with the whole concept.

I’m one of these people who have been collecting ebooks and software on internet marketing for a while now but have been to scared too actually get anything started until now. And I know now that this is a great way to start and build a network of affiliate sites/blogs using data feeds.

Basically I would like to know where to start with these…

EGJ:

Thanks for writing and for your compliments. I appreciate it as I do work hard to provide valuable information to people – especially those just starting out, but also to those who have been struggling for a long time and not making much money at their online business.

And you are my favorite type of person! The one who has read and studied and wondered…and is now ready to put all that into action! You know that you won’t make a million dollars overnight and you know that there is some thought, research and effort involved to building an income online.

In the last two weeks I’ve been consulting with a woman who is also at this stage. She’s just built a fabulous domain using a WordPress blog and the WP Affiliate DataFeed Script. She had no prior experience with website creation, only knew that she wanted to build a site that was valuable to her visitor, but also attractive to the search engines and had the potential to earn an income.

Now, I’m spewing a lot of information here so bear with me…

The Associate DataFeed Creator is good but tough to make fistfuls of cash on amazon (their prices are often too high for the average online shopper). The Affiliate DataFeed Generator is also good and versatile (not limited to amazon) but has a higher learning curve and truly works better if you own RSS2Blog (which is a pricey script, but well worth the money – something to think about AFTER you are earning a decent income from your site). So hands down of all of the scripts I use the WordPress Datafeed Affiliate Script (the one I created those videos for) is still the best for the money, the easiest to use for beginners, and very versatile for product selection).

However…there is one really cool script I’ve been using this past two weeks – still testing, but it has huge potential and I’m seeing the money coming in from it already. Actually I started with it on one website and since the results were so fast I’ve now added it to three sites I own!

It doesn’t require WordPress, the pages are search engine friendly, the creator of the program is helpful, honest, supportive, the price is reasonable, new features are coming (so it will be even more versatile), a forum is in the works (which means that an entire support network will be at your beck and call with examples and insider’s tricks)…on and on and on.

Now you won’t likely be earning $100 per sale per referral, but who cares? Once these are set up and running they update themselves so the income stream is automated.

The products you’ll be referring are the 25 million products on ebay – narrowed down by your criteria for each site you set up. For instance I have one site about backyard birding and my ebay store on that site only displays birding and gardening supplies. The payout is between (40-60% of ebay’s take on the listing, plus $12-$22 for every new ebay registration – I’ll have to check those figures but they aren’t far off). You won’t make hands over fist on the registrations because millions already have an ebay ID, but you should make a few per thousand visitors. And people love shopping on ebay, they’re getting a deal, the brand is trusted, and, yes 25 million products to choose from.

Well, I’ve typed enough this morning and given you two options to choose from that are perfect for netpreneurs just starting out. The WordPress Datafeed Affiliate Script or the ebay script.

Here’s the ebay page to check out – it’s so nice and non-hyped with examples of sites you could build and even a demo to play on! See the ebay affiliate script in action here.

Drop me a note back anytime and let me know how you’re getting on with your business okay?

Making money made easy using affiliate datafeeds, some great software, and just a few minutes of your time...Read how to create commission earning blog posts, rss feeds or web pages in a snap with Laura Childs.
Make Commission Ready Pages, Fast! is a post from: Make Money Online by Marketing Your Business

This week Michelle (creator of RSStoBlog) quietly launched a nifty piece of software that makes money online dead easy!

Michelle’s new software takes the same merchant datafeed that you may have been using in the past and allows you to transform it, without mucking about in the datafeed code (or for that matter mucking about in Microsoft Excel), into blog posts, html pages, RSS Feeds or all three! You decide. However you like working or building sites that make you money…it’s up to you, the functionality is all there in one nifty, reasonably priced and easy to master software. And, if you are already an RSStoBlog owner you’ll find an added formating feature that will make save you oodles of time setting up your future posts.

“Michelle’s datafeed software gets a user out of the confusing XLS datafeed and allows you to create RSS feeds (with your affiliate link embedded), html pages, RSS2Blog posts, and much more.”

I’m still in testing mode with it (because I want to be one of your experts to turn to on this) before I promote it by linking to my own examples, and creating a video to show you how easy and versatile this software is – but if you want to jump in now check it out here – merchant datafeed software. I have one example site at time of writing…pages that I made (but aren’t entirely proud of because it was my first little trial and the merchant feed I used wasn’t the highest quality) but since I’ve been playing with this tool for the last few weeks I’m setting these pages and feeds up all over the ‘net. About 12 fast loading pages, and 60 or so products that all have my affiliate link embedded, created in about 5 minutes.

My favorite part about this software is that it hides that telltale affiliate link from your visitors and search engine robots! I will talk about why this matters in another post, another day, but trust me on this…the search engines will give your datafeed generated pages a lot more credibility in the long run when each product on your pages aren’t followed by an off-site link.

More to come…

Laura

p.s. If you think this might be for you (and I can tell you that much of my income now comes easily from affiliate commissions using datafeeds, which is one of the reasons why I haven’t been working so hard to sell how-to marketing products), grab a copy now while Michelle’s selling it at pre-launch prices.
