With affiliate programs, it really pays to work well with others. Also known as referral programs, affiliate programs are normally commission based sales. You’ll recommend a site to your visitors and then pick up a percentage of any sale that those visitors make. You’ll benefit from the commission and the merchant benefits from the sales.

If you already have a website set up, you can run an affiliate program from it, or you can simply build a site to promote a particular product or service. As long as it brings in more cash than it takes to build or run it, you’ll be fine.

With any marketing program, you’ll need to be careful when you select an affiliate program. The benefit of an affiliate program will give you another way to make money from your users. Instead of selling them a product, you simply send them to a partner then take a cut of the profits.

Even though it may seem tempting to go for programs with the highest commissions, those programs won’t pay you anything if your visitors don’t buy them.

Here are some tips to help you select an affiliate program that’s right for you.

Do not accept any less than 25% with commission. You can find many programs with great payment structures and high percentages of pay in just about any field.

Look for statistic pages that list the number of click throughs, sales, and earnings so you’ll be able to see how you are doing.

Always look for programs that offer a wide variety of tools to put on your web site, including banners, text links, and of course graphics.

Find out hwo often you’ll be paid and be sure that the payment schedule meets with your own expectations. Some programs will pay monthly, while others will pay quarterly.

Be sure that top level support is included. If they can’t answer your questions in a quick and timely manner, you don’t want to work with them.

Once you learn what you are doing with affiliate programs, you can make a lot of money. If you are just starting out, you should always use common sense and not rush into anything. As you become more familiar with how things work, you’ll be well on your way to making a lot of money – and enjoying making it. If you have to work hard, you’ll be glad you did.

Affiliate marketing is all about getting paid for selling products you don’t own and not going to jail for it. Someone else goes through all of the trouble to develop software programs, service, or digital content products. They’ll do all the work then you collect the money!

Affiliate marketing is a revenue sharing arrangement between the product developer, known as the affiliate merchant, and the affiliate marketer who is anyone that’s willing to promote the sale of product by advertising the product using any type of legal means available.

The relationship will allow the affiliate merchant to grow their revenue by paying only for the advertising that results in a sale. The affiliate marketer will profit by making a percentage on a sale that he does not have to manage after the sale.

Getting Paid

Getting paid all depends upon how the affiliate program is set up. Some merchants will run their own affiliate program. They’ll have special types of software that assigns each affiliate marketer a special link that’s used in promoting the product.

The software will track sales of every marketer and the merchant will pay the commission on a periodic basis using either PayPal or another method of payment.

Selecting Products or Services

Your income is directly tied to how well your selected product or service sells, and the size of the commission you earn, which makes it very important that you choose carefully when it comes to choosing the affiliate merchant you’ll be partnering with.

Choose programs that you aren’t embarrassed to promote and programs that you’ll feel comfortable recommending to your family and friends if they were to ask you about it.

You’ll do much better if you promote products that you fully understand and are already familiar with. This way, you’ll be able to write better ads without having to strain yourself coming up with the right things to say.

You should only promote products and services for companies who have gone through the trouble to provide you with training programs and sales aids such as banners and other marketing materials that you can either use directly or model the one you own after.

Be on the lookout for programs with commission rates no less than 50%. You should give preference to programs that pay commission on multiple levels, which means you’ll also have to earn commissions on sales made by people who buy the products through your link then go on and become affiliates themselves later on.

On the internet, keywords are terms or words that relate to particular topics. Keyword research will involve various aspects, such as finding sales oriented keywords or driving maximum qualified users to increase their online sales.

Keyword research is the first step towards a successful search engine optimization campaign. You have to be very careful when selecting keywords, as it can be very tricky to select targeted keywords for a website.

The selection of keywords should always be based on various aspects such as product names, services, brands, or general terms. Often times, people forget about targeting geographical terms when they have global presence.

When doing keyword research, it’s highly recommended to do a very thorough market research analysis to find the best keywords used by search engines to find products and services online – and find out what keywords are targeted by competitors who are doing well in marketing on the internet.

The first step in finding the best keywords is to make a list of the products, topics, and services that you offer. You can also make good use of your website logs to know which keywords have brought you the traffic in the past.

Be sure to select keywords that clearly define your business and products to drive traffic from the search engines. There are some websites which get high levels of traffic through general keywords although they might not end up being sales.

Today, users of search engines are aware of how they work, for searching products and services on the net. Users always look for the better products, locations, etc. Therefore, you should cover all terms for each – products, locatins, etc.

There are numerous tools available which will help you identify keywords that are suitable for search engines. The challenge here, is to determine which keyword is the best to generate traffic.

They’re coming out of the woodwork now.

People who want their own online business – whether for pocket change or to change their lives – and they’re buying up all the old $5 master rights ebooks on eBay. The ones that teach how to run an online business in your underwear and make a million dollars this year.

Five to ten a week. That’s how many end up on my virtual door, and make a personal contact with me via phone, or email, or both.

Now this isn’t a problem for me. There’s a reason why I put contact forms and publish email addresses, leave my home phone number in plain view on most of my websites, and tell my subscribers (in 40% of my emails) to write back if they have any questions…it’s a pleasure to give back to the world which has blessed me so much by helping another on their journey into internet business.

Actually, it’s more than a pleasure – it’s a virtual blessing.

But there’s something a little wrong with some of the wanna be entrepreneurs landing on my doorstep this month. More wrong than just believing the lie that a million can be made overnight. More wrong than thinking a $5 ebook written 5 years ago is going to teach the strategy that is required to make a business flourish today.

Let me give you an example.

Last month a pleasant gentleman from Hawaii called. (He’s actually spent more than his rent money a few months over on outdated materials.) He’d learned how to get traffic, he’d learned about squeeze pages, and he’d built a list of over a thousand subscribers in a few short months. The only trouble was he didn’t know what to sell them! And, when trying to sell them a product or two that he had resale rights to, not one of his follow up emails made a sale!

Now this new online entrepreneur is savvy enough to know that he needed to learn a thing or two about conversion. A thing or two about building a relationship with his subscriber list. But one thing he didn’t consider was that he really needed to learn about the nature of the 2007 website visitor and authenticity.

Yes, 2007′s website visitor is a little different than 2006′s – very different from 2005′s, in more ways than you can shake a stick at.

But today I just want to talk about authenticity…

This gentleman, his website URL, and his advertising to match, had to do with WAHMs (work at home moms). And when people arrive on his site they’re hit with an audio recording (man’s voice) and a very blah looking page asking the visitor “What’s your most burning question about working from home?”.

Now if you were a work at home mom what’s the first thing you’d do after landing on that site? Buy something? Sign up for the newsletter? Ask a question? Or click the big red X in the top right of your browser window – not believing for a moment that any work at home woman put this resource together for other WAHMs?

It Gets Worse

The part that is so terribly wrong about this new entrepreneur is that his mission is to teach women how to make money from home – without ever having made more than he’s spent learning the business!

Okay, here’s another example of a new entrepreneur and lack of authenticity…

This one’s new this week from a customer at my Web 2.0 traffic strategy site.

I’ll give it to you verbatim.

hi laura,

i’ve read the the stampede secret 4 times and im still having a hard time understanding what im suppose to do with the rss feed. i have a sales letter website that i want to direct traffic to i dont want to blog right now i just want to use the rss feed. in the ebook you had mentioned the rss submit would this software help me get the traffic i need? the website that i want to put on the web is an ebook on becoming an affiliate earning a monthly residual income. the wesite is not on the web yet but will be soon. right now im very frustrated in trying to understand whats going on . could you please help? thank you

Of course I am more than thrilled to help him out. I work with a few entrepreneurs already co-designing their Web 2.0 marketing strategy – but this entrepreneur didn’t know that he had to have an RSS feed in order to do something with it – so I knew I was in for a long session.

Leaving the Blog/RSS Feed connection conversation aside for a moment I returned an email to him on authenticity and the Web 2.0 surfer’s mindset. Here’s my response…

Tony, I’d be honored to help you.

Let’s put the RSS Feed aspect of a website to the back burner for a moment – especially since you don’t have a site, a blog, or content to put in a feed yet.

Besides that, using ‘feeds’ on social sites is only one component of Web 2.0 marketing strategy.

Web 2.0 – the big picture – is what you want to grasp first. As you’ve read if you’re not active in your marketplace you’re going to really struggle getting sales in this day and age. The age of slapping up a mini-site with a product for sale and sending traffic to it without any further involvement is, sadly, practically over. Ask any of the ‘straight-shooter’ marketers (who aren’t trying to sell you a product on how to create or sell products with a mini-site) for the truth and they’ll tell you the exact same thing.

So what does it mean to be involved in your marketplace?

There’s a lot to this – depending on your website, your product, and the strategy you design – but in your case we’ll carry on with the assumption that you’re selling an ebook on how to make money every month by being an affiliate…

First of all, I hope you’re actually accomplishing this because if you’re not, online surfers today will either demand proof or at the very least expect your Web 2.0 social marketing persona to be knowledgable and genuine. You’ll need to create a presence with an air of authority, ‘give to get’ (give good advice and techniques to gain their trust for a sale), and be seen by the customers you’re trying to win over.

I’ll assume that you ARE accomplishing earning money every month as an affiliate for the rest of this email…

And that you want to do nothing more (for now at least) than host a mini-site with a salesletter and an order button.

You don’t want to blog on your own site (you said so, although I would encourage you to rethink your strategy as blogging gives you both credibility and an automatic RSS Feed of your content, which you would then use on social websites) so the ALTERNATIVE is to expend that energy on a Web 2.0 social site.

You need to put yourself in the path of your customer, you need to put your URL in the path of your customers. The best way to do this (without blogging on your own site and using the feed generated by the blog) is to DEFINE your market, DETERMINE where those people are spending their time online (trust me they’re all on Web 2.0 sites as you read in the Stampede Secret’s research), then DEVELOP your presence on that Web 2.0 site.

To sum up, Web 2.0 Marketing is all about building trust, helping out, positioning yourself as a friend or an authority and doing all that in the right places on the right sites.

I’m going to leave you with that for a moment. This is only the beginning of our conversation. I will carry you right through to making the decisions necessary for your most effective Web 2.0 marketing strategy and see you get started. But first I wanted to make sure the ‘basics’ of Web 2.0 make sense to you and that you remain dedicated to your initial plan on selling an ebook on affiliate marketing without blogging on site.

Write back your thoughts – your questions – a change in plans if you make them and we’ll move onto the next steps in my next email…

Thankfully Tony bowed out of his online business idea – to sell a product on a mini-site with no further effort and no experience on the topic. Hopefully he will re-write his business plan to something that suits him, understanding that any business requires risk and effort and most especially in 2007, authenticity.

For my readers today, let Tony’s email above be a warning! Thousands of sellers are selling products on topics they don’t have a clue about – although it may be okay to buy a product from them, you’d never want to ask their advice in followup as it may not be of the highest caliber.

Could you imagine buying a book from Tony (in the example above) on making money every month with affiliate programs and then going to him for advice on which products to promote (given that he’s got no experience doing it)? For that matter how about asking him how to get traffic to your affiliate website (given that he thinks a $19 piece of software could deliver the traffic)?

It’s no wonder that social marketing has taken over the internet – it’s the only ‘game-free’ system (for the most part) that buries the fakers of online business.

Be true to your interests, allow your personality to show online, and by all means be authentic!

Hi Laura:

I just came across your website and blog by accident following links on other websites.

Brilliant I love it.

I came across your posts and video about building wordpress affiliate sites with data feeds, and I’m fascinated with the whole concept.

I’m one of these people who have been collecting ebooks and software on internet marketing for a while now but have been to scared too actually get anything started until now. And I know now that this is a great way to start and build a network of affiliate sites/blogs using data feeds.

Basically I would like to know where to start with these…

EGJ:

Thanks for writing and for your compliments. I appreciate it as I do work hard to provide valuable information to people – especially those just starting out, but also to those who have been struggling for a long time and not making much money at their online business.

And you are my favorite type of person! The one who has read and studied and wondered…and is now ready to put all that into action! You know that you won’t make a million dollars overnight and you know that there is some thought, research and effort involved to building an income online.

In the last two weeks I’ve been consulting with a woman who is also at this stage. She’s just built a fabulous domain using a WordPress blog and the WP Affiliate DataFeed Script. She had no prior experience with website creation, only knew that she wanted to build a site that was valuable to her visitor, but also attractive to the search engines and had the potential to earn an income.

Now, I’m spewing a lot of information here so bear with me…

The Associate DataFeed Creator is good but tough to make fistfuls of cash on amazon (their prices are often too high for the average online shopper). The Affiliate DataFeed Generator is also good and versatile (not limited to amazon) but has a higher learning curve and truly works better if you own RSS2Blog (which is a pricey script, but well worth the money – something to think about AFTER you are earning a decent income from your site). So hands down of all of the scripts I use the WordPress Datafeed Affiliate Script (the one I created those videos for) is still the best for the money, the easiest to use for beginners, and very versatile for product selection).

However…there is one really cool script I’ve been using this past two weeks – still testing, but it has huge potential and I’m seeing the money coming in from it already. Actually I started with it on one website and since the results were so fast I’ve now added it to three sites I own!

It doesn’t require WordPress, the pages are search engine friendly, the creator of the program is helpful, honest, supportive, the price is reasonable, new features are coming (so it will be even more versatile), a forum is in the works (which means that an entire support network will be at your beck and call with examples and insider’s tricks)…on and on and on.

Now you won’t likely be earning $100 per sale per referral, but who cares? Once these are set up and running they update themselves so the income stream is automated.

The products you’ll be referring are the 25 million products on ebay – narrowed down by your criteria for each site you set up. For instance I have one site about backyard birding and my ebay store on that site only displays birding and gardening supplies. The payout is between (40-60% of ebay’s take on the listing, plus $12-$22 for every new ebay registration – I’ll have to check those figures but they aren’t far off). You won’t make hands over fist on the registrations because millions already have an ebay ID, but you should make a few per thousand visitors. And people love shopping on ebay, they’re getting a deal, the brand is trusted, and, yes 25 million products to choose from.

Well, I’ve typed enough this morning and given you two options to choose from that are perfect for netpreneurs just starting out. The WordPress Datafeed Affiliate Script or the ebay script.

Here’s the ebay page to check out – it’s so nice and non-hyped with examples of sites you could build and even a demo to play on! See the ebay affiliate script in action here.

Drop me a note back anytime and let me know how you’re getting on with your business okay?

This week I sent an email to my subscribers and two people wrote back to me.

The email was a notification about Michael Rasmussen’s free videos on how to manage a list of subscribers and write emails that are opened, read and acted upon.

Thousands followed the link and grabbed the free videos, many (after seeing the quality of the content) decided they needed to learn more from Michael) and upgraded to own the full set. However it was not necessary to upgrade to gain some valuable information au gratis.

Here’s part of the email I sent out:

It is in the top three questions I get every week about working from home…

“How do I write to and manage a list of subscribers for profits?”

Well Michael Rasmussen (who recently brought in over $30,000 from a single email promotion), has created a series of videos that he’s allowing me to pass onto you for free. (plus you’ll get a handy little redirect script, also free).

Grab them here.

Email marketing secrets about:

* the subject line
* the call to action
* the body copy
* the P.S.
* plus, my personal favorite, common mistakes new email marketers make!

Go check it out now in case he changes his mind and starts charging for these or before too many people find out and crash their servers…

Now let me tell you about the two people who wrote back…

One subscriber wrote back and said, “I’m just starting my business so I didn’t sign up. I can’t spend money on everything that comes along. Please tell me if I really need this…”

First of all, the time that it took to write that email to me could have been invested in signing up for free and watching those videos – moving forward in your business instead of wondering and treading water. Secondly, I don’t send my subscribers anything that I don’t use, haven’t seen or reveiwed, or believe in myself…

It’s okay, I know we’re all skeptical and worried about handing over our email address for free products and not wanting to be subjected to enticing offers and upsells. Let’s use our heads here. Get yourself a free email account and use that address to subscribe for the free offers. Or, once subscribed, if you feel like a number that is just being pitched to, unsubscribe from any follow-up emails once you’ve received your free offer.

“Personally I spend an hour of every day reading other marketer’s emails. Why? To stay on top of the new product offerings but also to analyze and learn from the wide variety of email copywriting that sells. I don’t envision that time as being pitched to, I see it as an educational experience.”

Now before I run off on a tangent, let me tell you about the second subscriber who wrote back to me…

“Laura, I’m unsubscribing from all marketing related email lists. Everything is written to sell me, nothing is purely to help. I’ve ordered some of the products and I’m always left knowing I have only been given the tip of the iceberg, that there is something more I need to succeed online…”

I promise to share my response to this gentleman another day in a comment to this post, but in the meantime I’m wondering what action you would have taken had you received an email like this from your subscriber…

Would you:

Just let them go because obviously they aren’t a good match for you and your business?

Realize that they are one of those people who spend hundreds or thousands on products and never put them to use (and therefore are a lost cause anyway)?

Think that here’s a guy that once spent money on marketing projects and probably would spend money again IF you could find the product that met his desires, or shared the secret he thinks we’re all holding back from him?

Analyze that if one person wrote an email like this it’s quite likely that another 99 had similar thoughts – and take action to create a product that will suit their needs?

Or _____________?

You don’t have to answer me here, you don’t even have to email me your answer, but I do suggest that you think about what your reaction to an email like this would be.

Why?

Your reaction holds the keys to your future online business success. Let me say that again: “Your reaction holds the key to your future online business success,” because the internet, and the surfers of it, and your subscribers are changing. As they change, the way you market to, interact and react to your customers and readers will change – if you want to survive.

How do I know this?

Next month I celebrate 9 years of working online from home. No boss, no paycheck. Just me and the world wide web.

Nine years ago I was fortunate enough to work with the longest running internet marketing expert Marlon Sanders for about 4 months – but I wasn’t smart enough to ‘get’ what he was trying to show me.

Two years ago I was fortunate enough to co-author two books and launch 3 websites with marketing legend Dr. Joe Vitale. I was nearly smart enough then to glean many of the secrets he shared with me.

But this is the first year that I’ve matured enough to stand back and look at where we’ve been, how we’ve changed, and where we’re heading. I’ll disclose my insights, my projections and predictions in following posts.

In a few days I’ll disclose my action or reaction to my gentleman subscriber who has bought hundreds of dollars of marketing products and thinks that marketing authors aren’t disclosing all, that “there’s something more I need to succeed online.”

In the meantime, I’d love to hear from you.

I’m writing to let you know that my $25 amazon gift certificate contest is closed, but that I’ve been one-upped by my mentor Mark Joyner and THAT opportunity is still wide open for you.

Whether you’re building an online business or you’re just thinking about doing so, the knowledge you will gain from Mark Joyner’s teaching will take you further, faster and make you more successful than learning from any other mentor’s teachings I’ve studied. (I’ve studied Joe Vitale for copywriting, Marlon Sanders for direct response – neither of these should go without mention – and many others.)

If you’re not sure what Mark brings to the table in his training, you can watch a free video of one of his recent consultations here:

http://www.smartzville.com/markjoyner.htm

It takes just a minute, but winning could literally transform your life!

Truly,

Laura Childs

p.s. Don’t wait! Go now! This course (which I’ve now 1/2 reviewed) is fantastic! All the better if you can get it for free!

Wow!

Social Bookmark Marketing Is One Hot Topic!

When I sent an email out to my website marketing list two days ago I had no idea how popular the topics of social proof for websites, traffic from tagging, or the power of back links, would be. It seems the online business world is more than ready to get some really good information on Web 2.0 sites and traffic from those sites.

“Sometimes I’m just in my own little farm world – assuming that everyone already knows this stuff…”

So I was more than a little shocked when so many wrote me back asking for clarification on social bookmarking as well as having tagged pages from Technorati and other popular bookmark sites.

So let’s clear up some confusion about tags and social bookmarking okay?

Social bookmarking (aka page, site or image tagging) is the process of using a web service to keep track of your personal bookmarks. The difference between using your browser’s bookmark list and an online bookmark service is that the online version is public.

Online bookmarking sites include technorati, del.icio.us, digg and many others. I won’t get into the reasons why these sites have become so popular by humans and search enigne spiders alike – just trust me on this one – it’s hot.

Now, from an SEO standpoint YOU will want YOUR web pages and urls listed on those sites for the following top two reasons – backlinks for positioning and visitor traffic from surfers.

And that’s what Sean Wu’s course is all about…

Sean’s course – mentioned in my Wednesay email – is unfortunately named after a now nearly defunct technique. And THAT made everyone’s radar go way up…

I hadn’t even considered that people would make those types of assumptions without knowing anything about the topic, about Sean, or for that matter not even having read the content.

You should read what some people – respected experts even – are saying and the comments left on Sherman’s blog. Pretty sad when you think about it – to bash someone’s product and technique on heresay and assumption.

And those that aren’t complaining about the product (of which they haven’t read) are whining about the price. They’re saying “This information is available freely elsewhere.” Ummm, no it’s not. Sean’s research and time on 2.0 techniques created that product. His testing and tracking shaped the content. Then he went to work compiling, marketing, and building up an affiliate team – all so other website owners could have a one-stop research point on the topic and an expert to confer with if something didn’t make sense.

Those price pointers – hmm – they haven’t figured out yet that time is money. If they’ve got 20-40 hours to learn from a variety of online posts scattered all over the web, try what they’ve learned, and figure out the fast way to perform the tasks, then that makes their time worth between $3.50 to $7.00 per hour. (Doing the math – Sean’s course is selling for $147)

But perhaps all that bashing and whining is to our advantage…

Because if this technique for traffic and positioning doesn’t reach the masses we’ll have it made for many, many months (perhaps years) to come.

And even if it does reach the masses we’ll still gain lots of extra traffic from learning how to do it right.

Take what he’s going to show you, don’t over use or abuse the process and techniques and you should see the results you seek. If any part of the course seems questionable then don’t do it. If you are uncertain you can post a comment below and I’ll answer – as always.

Tagging is a perfectly acceptable, when used responsibly, technique for traffic. It is no different than optimizing a web page for search engine positioning, then entering that url onto google’s add URL page.

If you still need more information on what tags and bookmarks are all about, grab this 10 page, free download on tagging. That pdf was written by a woman marketer who has also used the technique for great results.

But if you’re ready to find out how to put social bookmarking and tagging to work for you right away, head over to the full treatment on tagging.

We’ll talk again soon,

No matter where you’re at in sales and marketing for your website, unless you are a well established guru, this system will increase your sign-ups and sales, plus give you a few new products to market as well!

How do you suppose the established ‘gurus’ become so, well, ‘established’?

If you didn’t already know this, I’ve worked both with Marlon Sanders and Joe Vitale in the past. These ‘masters’ are now two of the biggest names in online marketing and sales.

“When I worked with Marlon I was too stupid (yes, I’ll admit it) to realize the golden knowledge he shared with me (1998). Looking back I realize that I owe this man dearly…”

Marlon and Joe, as I’ve learned from watching, listening to, and working with, made it online because they had a “system” in place. That system performs all the menial tasks and makes the process of running an online business nearly automatic. All they add is their marketing genius – without fiddling around with the time-consuming, integration of a variety of tools, software and scripts.

In truth, I’ve got 4 services and as many scripts to manage to market my sites, products and sales. Miss one step and I’ve missed the maximum I could have earned…

To show you how “I do what I do”, would be a lot of work for me. David Vallieres attempted it with his “Marketing Reality Show” but gave up after two or three sessions…

Enter a new marketing and sales system, at an incredible price (right now it’s $97) that not only teaches you the system many of the gurus use, but gives you the tool that manages it all for you. One tool manages it all. AND, it grows with you – unlimited products, unlimited follow up emails, a bunch of different payment processors, plus a pile of third party, one-click integration (for those who already have somewhat of a email marketing system in place already).

I’ve been looking for something like this for you for a long time.

You don’t need to be a guru, a geek or anything else other than a motivated money-earner and learner. You need to want this for yourself – a system to integrate all the marketing puzzle pieces in one easy to manage tool with the knowledge that makes it all work for you (which is why you get an ebook and the software).

Who Isn’t This For?

This isn’t for the Joe Vitale’s and the Marlon Sanders’ of the world. This is for beginner to intermediate marketers. And, by being used, will take your business up a notch.

Your sales and marketing will become automated with just a few clicks – and if you have more than one business, more than one product, or more than one website, all the better! Use this one backend tool for everything, so you can focus on what’s really important.

I’m not going to keep rambling about all the features and processes of this marketing system because I want you to go read the sales letter on the site. Why? I feel it’s the new era of online marketing. A soft sell approach, completely free of hype. When your product is this good, you don’t need hype to sell it.

go now: Automated Marketing System

Yours in success,

Laura Childs

p.s. As per the standard in online business, great new products like this are launched at an intro price and increase in price as word gets out about the value. This product is no exception – it has been fully tested and the price is going up. This isn’t a marketing ploy – the low launch price is a way for the developers to grow affiliates and testimonials at launch. The soon to come higher price will be how the developers make back the money they spent on programming this Automated Marketing System. If you’re serious about putting your marketing and sales on automation and building your business using just one tool (instead of the hodge podge that we’ve all been using to date) get this now and put it to work today.

“The internet is going through a major shift right now. Video is here, google has made serious changes to their algorithms, and your website visitors are savvier than ever…you’ve got to stay on top of all this if you’re building or maintaining a business online. Right now, at this stage of the internet, the best thing you can do for your online business is to immerse yourself in knowledge.” –Laura Childs

Personal Journey

Last night at Tribal Council one of the players said, (paraphrasing because I wasn’t paying close attention), “I’m not going to try to kid you – we’re going through hell.” His tribe looked at him like he was crazy.

It’s all a question of what you’ve focused on, your attitude, who you listen to…

It’s the same in the marketing, website promotion, getting more traffic, making money online, selling products, world.

Reading comments like ‘crap sells’ and ‘they’ll never use the stuff anyway’ has dragged me down. I’ve read too much of it. I’ve often found myself lost in it. It is not what this ‘job’ or ‘life’ is about.

Since Christmas I’ve been in quiet reflection. “How can we really help each other?” “What products or services truly benefit our work online?”

That’s why, if you’re on my list, you haven’t had many emails from me:

I’ve been in personal contact by email with you (one on one attention is a great way to help another);

I’ve been largely incapable of finding any new product that you really need, (other than knowledge based products that really make a difference to your time and income online); and

I’ve been sharing techniques that others find too hard to teach.

And now I’ve got the nerve to leave you!

It’s just for 10 days or so…

I realize that there are a lot of people who rely on me to share views, give assistance and honestly review site promotion products.

I realize that sometimes you want fast answers on a blog. Sometimes you need very lengthly answers in a personal email.

I realize that sometimes you just need to vent, or share your excitement, or flaunt your profits for the month.

And I love doing it all, seeing it all, and going through it all with you.

I do.

But for the next while your emails and comments will be unanswered.

If you can wait for me, that’s great! I’ll be back in 10-12 days.

If you can’t wait for me, then let me pass on my personal favorite contacts who will help, who will answer questions, who have great information to share, who will move you forward in your online adventure.

Blogs and WordPress – Sherman Hu. You’ve got blogging questions? WordPress issues? Sherman’s the guy to go to. Not only is his product the absolute best of anything I’ve seen on blog mechanics – hosting, set up, optimization, plugins, customizing, and more – but Sherman also covers video-casting, pod-casting, ghost blogging… I don’t think he sleeps. But I do know this is a man I trust my readers with 100%. I believe you have to sign up for a backstage pass to his tutorials and with that comes the url to his wordpress blog – it’s a free sneak peak with lots of content. Go there and see why I recommend Sherman so highly – you’ll find integrity-rich website promotion experts, like Michael Campbell and Ken McCarthy, raving about him.

Google – Big changes are afoot right now with organic search traffic coming from google (traffic you don’t pay for). You need to know about these changes. That’s why yesterday I sent you over to Matt Cutts’ blog. Matt is a google employee, that link is to his personal blog. There’s nothing to buy but lots to learn. Search for the BigDaddy posts – it may all seem more ‘geek’ than you feel you can manage so I’ll report more on this when I return, in layman’s terms. Suffice it to say that more sites will be affected when the updates are worldwide.

Niche Marketing – I’m at a loss right now where to send you. You might want to check out Phil Wiley’s new affilliate forum. I saw some names in there that I trust, but I haven’t spent any time in the forum nor do I know how active Phil is within. I had a quick look at the member’s list and found some hard working bloggers and niche marketers in there.

And now I leave you. Life will certainly be different without your emails to open next week…

Stay safe, keep on marketing and happy learning!

I’ve had a few of these emails so I thought I’d better make it public…(not that it’s a big secret, but that it may help others, trolling the web in the wee hours, to get a fast answer to their question).

“I downloaded WordPress. Which host supports it and how do I install it?”

First of all let me say that I have no problems with people emailing me personally for help. As far as I’m concerned, as a marketer, that is part of my job – we’re not meant to just help people to the sale, we’re supposed to be helping people before and after it as well!

With that said, I do try to answer every email as well as respond to every question asked here, but life sometimes gets in the way as I have time-consuming involvements in my own community and a family to look after.

Anyway, let’s get down to business – answering the question and getting you set up with a new host and wordpress installation.

“I downloaded WordPress. Which host supports it and how do I install it?”

For almost all my sites now I use host gator.

In the sidebar of all blog pages you will see a clickable graphic.

Looks like this:

It will take you right to hostgator (with my affiliate link of course, and I thank you in advance if you use it – every bit helps – right now our family is trying to raising money for other family’s needs not just our own.)

Once at HostGator, click on Web Hosting.

If you’re planning on running more than one domain get the Baby Gator package. It’s less than $10 per month and you can have multiple domains with just one hostgator account. (If you will be running more than one domain in a baby account let me know and I’ll share some do’s and don’ts on inter-linking and related content.)

Once you’ve paid for your hosting account, you’ll receive a login to your ‘cPanel’ (host management) area. You simply need to login, find the Fantastico button (it’s on the right side, close to the bottom). Click it.

cPanel’s Fantastico will give you a number of programs that it will install for you – one of which is WordPress.

Click WordPress

Tell Fantastico where you want it to install wordpress (in a directory, in the root, etc.),

Then answer a few more questions (email associated with this install, name of blog, password you want to use for the blog, etc. – these can all be changed later from within WordPress).

Then click Install…

…30 seconds later your new WordPress blog is installed on your newly hosted domain!

Exit out of cPanel, login to your WordPress install, and get busy modifying templates or adding content to your new blog!

A subscriber wrote in today, asking for RSS Feed help and about the RSS ebook with Submission software bundle I have on this site. (This is not The Stampede Secret, but a cheaper RSS Feed book with a bonus of time-saving software).

“My primary aim of purchasing this ebook is getting more traffic to my website. I already have an RSS feed setup on my website. But maybe I am not doing it correctly…”

I’m including my response below because I think it may help many of my readers…

Hello again! Great to hear from you…

I must not have received your last email because I respond to every one I get – I try to do this within 24 hours but it’s been so busy here I’ve not gotten to some within 48 hours – we’ve got a very sick friend we’ve been carting back and forth to the hospital (a 3 hour drive each way), plus Christmas so close now, and my volunteer involvement with the local children – it’s a crazy time of year!)

I had a look at your site’s RSS Feed. It’s script-sound, but you may just need to start submitting the feed url to the RSS directories. The software will do this for you in about 20 minutes to over 50 directories.

However I do have a few advanced tips if you’re interested…

Do you have much knowledge of keyword research?

Basically the same steps you take to determine the best keywords for your website are the same steps you’d take to optimize your rss feed. You’ve got to find and target a highly searched for keyword term or phrase, without a lot of competition, to ensure your feed draws the traffic you desire.

Once you’ve uncovered about 10 sets of good keywords or phrases (this involves some research) , you’ll want to see what kind of RSS competition (not website competition) you’re up against, and then ensure that you are always one step ahead of your competition.

By one step ahead I mean assessing what they do then doing it “one better”.

“One-better” techniques might be:

(a) updating your feed more often,
(b) adding one or two extra keywords in your feed, or
(c) beefing up your total text within the feed.

So, with keywords chosen, here’s how to find the RSS competition…

go to yahoo.com

without entering anything into the search box at the top of the page just click the Yahoo Search button.

you’ll then see a link to Advanced Search

pop your keywords into the “Show Results with:” box, then scroll down to the “File Format” selection and choose RSS/XML from the drop down list.

scroll back up and click the “Yahoo Search” button.

the result you get is yahoo’s top RSS listings for your keywords.

To view any of those top listing’s RSS Feeds simply click on the “View as XML” text link under each listing.

Now, you may never make it to the #1 spot, but if you can be in the top 5 you’re in good stead.

This is where assessing your site’s RSS competition comes in…

Find the site and the site’s feed that you know you can beat. (As a general rule there are sites you’ll likely never beat – the real big shots in your niche. For instance if your site is about home decor you’d be hard pressed to beat out bhg.com, about.com, ivillage.com).

If the top competitors are too fierce for the keywords you have chosen, move down your list of keywords and check out the competition for those keywords.

When you’ve found a site’s RSS feed that you can beat, assess it by asking:

How often do they update?

How often do they use the keywords in the text?

How much content do they provide for each item?

Now just do it “one-better”!

If they update once a week, you’ll update the items in your feed twice a week.

If they use the keywords 5 times in the entire feed, you’ll use the keywords 6-8 times. (Test this factor. If their feed reads as a keyword-stuffed feed, then lessen your use of the keyword and see if that works better.)

If they’re publishing two sentences for every item in the RSS feed, then you’ll have three sentences.

To wrap it up:

a) determine keywords for your site and feed
b) find your competitors
c) assess the competition
d) one-up them

Hope this helps. If you have any questions feel free to enter them by leaving a comment below.

Merry Christmas to All!

I’m so excited, thrilled, elated.

Excited, for both of us…

First off, I’m excited for you, because what you’re about to find is some really cool gifts and bonuses just for reading one of the hottest new hard cover books to be released in 50 years or more…

I’m paraphrasing Joe Vitale there and although I haven’t read nearly as many marketing books as Joe, I have read Mark Joyner’s newest book and I agree that it brings light to many marketing processes that I hadn’t thought of yet.

If you remember, I told you about The Irresistible Offer a few weeks back. You can read that post here if you want to.

But something bigger is on the line now…

And you’re going to love it!

Mark, Joe and a massive list of other marketing experts feel so strongly about The Irresistible Offer that we’ve all pitched in a pile of bonus products to ensure that you get this new hard cover.

It’s currently selling on amazon for less than $15.

When you purchase it, (and no, you don’t have to buy it from my link) head right over to Mark’s newest site where you’ll find over $15,000 worth of audio, video, software and ebooks as a special bonus. No extra payments required.

Topics include personal success, online business tools, information products on podcasting, copywriting, blogging, sales – there’s just too much to try to tell you about here…

One product I know you’ll love is Dave Lahkani’s Podcasting tutorials (he sells them for $997 on his site!).

Another you’ll love is Stephen Pierce’s Wealth program.

And another I hope you’ll like is my own offering “What’s My eBook Idea Worth?”. Now you see why I’m so excited for me, as well as being excited for you. It feels great to be partnered with Mark and these other marketers on such a project.

But let’s not move too far away from the content in Mark’s book. It is a resource that you’ll keep on hand for years to come. Likely lend it, or buy it for, your friends and children when they want to understand how to make their own businesses better…I learned ‘heaps’ from reading it and I’m now on my third round.

I strongly suggest you head over to see what’s on offer:

The Mother of All Bribes

You won’t be disappointed!
