Editor’s Note and Update: There is a very good reason this is one of the most popular posts on this site even though it was written back in October 2007! Far too many online marketers are missing the boat by not paying attention to their RSS feeds. They think their blogs are doing all the heavy lifting in the search engines, but don’t know how to reach even more targeted traffic by re-purposing their feeds. If you can ‘get’ this concept into your mind and implement the technique in a way that makes sense to your market, you can write your own paycheck.

———————
I’ve been out of the loop for the last few months as many of my regular readers know. Working on other projects and not wanting to fill up the world wide web with unnecessary ramblings.

Today I want to share an internet marketing strategy that I initially wrote about in Stampede Secret 2.0, and now hear other trainers teaching (which I’m happy about because this is an elegant way for savvy marketers to drive traffic and increase brand awareness within their target markets).

As an aside, I took the Stampede Secret 2.0 package off the market a few months back when I picked up a demanding corporate assignment and couldn’t focus on the marketing or personalized attention some of my users required. However after receiving many email requests for the course I edited the book (with a stronger focus for niche marketers), and have just today put the ebook back for sale at a price more people could afford. (see http://www.stampedesecret.com/web20/guide for more details). Keep in mind that this is a strategy guide – it’s up to you to determine where you implement the strategy and you have to put your thinking cap on to do so. I’m not about to tell you that one site has all the answers for all the markets online.

Back to the original reason for this post…

Andy Beard wrote about this website today (gooruze.com) and touched on the technique I shared with marketers earlier this year – repurposing your blog’s rss feed on Web 2.0 enabled sites.

I first discovered this hugely beneficial technique on the very busy PlugIM website, then again on Squidoo, and then on BlinkBits and now (via Andy’s direction – Gooruze Preview).

Of course there are countless other places to repurpose your feed content (without penalty and niche market specific) to drive traffic and obtain immediate backlinks to your website – those listed above are just some of my favorite, generic, and/or internet marketing, related.

If Gooruze looks to be up your alley, sign up, add your blog’s feed to your profile (and your photo of course), and be eligible to win $10,000 in Adwords clicks during this early-launch phase. And while you’re there, take a page out of Andy’s power user idea – add your StumbleUpon feed to your profile as well! (A link to it is found in your StumbleUpon user page – lower left orange RSS icon).

Drop me a line and let me know your results in 30 days or so!

They’re coming out of the woodwork now.

People who want their own online business – whether for pocket change or to change their lives – and they’re buying up all the old $5 master rights ebooks on eBay. The ones that teach how to run an online business in your underwear and make a million dollars this year.

Five to ten a week. That’s how many end up on my virtual door, and make a personal contact with me via phone, or email, or both.

Now this isn’t a problem for me. There’s a reason why I put contact forms and publish email addresses, leave my home phone number in plain view on most of my websites, and tell my subscribers (in 40% of my emails) to write back if they have any questions…it’s a pleasure to give back to the world which has blessed me so much by helping another on their journey into internet business.

Actually, it’s more than a pleasure – it’s a virtual blessing.

But there’s something a little wrong with some of the wanna be entrepreneurs landing on my doorstep this month. More wrong than just believing the lie that a million can be made overnight. More wrong than thinking a $5 ebook written 5 years ago is going to teach the strategy that is required to make a business flourish today.

Let me give you an example.

Last month a pleasant gentleman from Hawaii called. (He’s actually spent more than his rent money a few months over on outdated materials.) He’d learned how to get traffic, he’d learned about squeeze pages, and he’d built a list of over a thousand subscribers in a few short months. The only trouble was he didn’t know what to sell them! And, when trying to sell them a product or two that he had resale rights to, not one of his follow up emails made a sale!

Now this new online entrepreneur is savvy enough to know that he needed to learn a thing or two about conversion. A thing or two about building a relationship with his subscriber list. But one thing he didn’t consider was that he really needed to learn about the nature of the 2007 website visitor and authenticity.

Yes, 2007′s website visitor is a little different than 2006′s – very different from 2005′s, in more ways than you can shake a stick at.

But today I just want to talk about authenticity…

This gentleman, his website URL, and his advertising to match, had to do with WAHMs (work at home moms). And when people arrive on his site they’re hit with an audio recording (man’s voice) and a very blah looking page asking the visitor “What’s your most burning question about working from home?”.

Now if you were a work at home mom what’s the first thing you’d do after landing on that site? Buy something? Sign up for the newsletter? Ask a question? Or click the big red X in the top right of your browser window – not believing for a moment that any work at home woman put this resource together for other WAHMs?

It Gets Worse

The part that is so terribly wrong about this new entrepreneur is that his mission is to teach women how to make money from home – without ever having made more than he’s spent learning the business!

Okay, here’s another example of a new entrepreneur and lack of authenticity…

This one’s new this week from a customer at my Web 2.0 traffic strategy site.

I’ll give it to you verbatim.

hi laura,

i’ve read the the stampede secret 4 times and im still having a hard time understanding what im suppose to do with the rss feed. i have a sales letter website that i want to direct traffic to i dont want to blog right now i just want to use the rss feed. in the ebook you had mentioned the rss submit would this software help me get the traffic i need? the website that i want to put on the web is an ebook on becoming an affiliate earning a monthly residual income. the wesite is not on the web yet but will be soon. right now im very frustrated in trying to understand whats going on . could you please help? thank you

Of course I am more than thrilled to help him out. I work with a few entrepreneurs already co-designing their Web 2.0 marketing strategy – but this entrepreneur didn’t know that he had to have an RSS feed in order to do something with it – so I knew I was in for a long session.

Leaving the Blog/RSS Feed connection conversation aside for a moment I returned an email to him on authenticity and the Web 2.0 surfer’s mindset. Here’s my response…

Tony, I’d be honored to help you.

Let’s put the RSS Feed aspect of a website to the back burner for a moment – especially since you don’t have a site, a blog, or content to put in a feed yet.

Besides that, using ‘feeds’ on social sites is only one component of Web 2.0 marketing strategy.

Web 2.0 – the big picture – is what you want to grasp first. As you’ve read if you’re not active in your marketplace you’re going to really struggle getting sales in this day and age. The age of slapping up a mini-site with a product for sale and sending traffic to it without any further involvement is, sadly, practically over. Ask any of the ‘straight-shooter’ marketers (who aren’t trying to sell you a product on how to create or sell products with a mini-site) for the truth and they’ll tell you the exact same thing.

So what does it mean to be involved in your marketplace?

There’s a lot to this – depending on your website, your product, and the strategy you design – but in your case we’ll carry on with the assumption that you’re selling an ebook on how to make money every month by being an affiliate…

First of all, I hope you’re actually accomplishing this because if you’re not, online surfers today will either demand proof or at the very least expect your Web 2.0 social marketing persona to be knowledgable and genuine. You’ll need to create a presence with an air of authority, ‘give to get’ (give good advice and techniques to gain their trust for a sale), and be seen by the customers you’re trying to win over.

I’ll assume that you ARE accomplishing earning money every month as an affiliate for the rest of this email…

And that you want to do nothing more (for now at least) than host a mini-site with a salesletter and an order button.

You don’t want to blog on your own site (you said so, although I would encourage you to rethink your strategy as blogging gives you both credibility and an automatic RSS Feed of your content, which you would then use on social websites) so the ALTERNATIVE is to expend that energy on a Web 2.0 social site.

You need to put yourself in the path of your customer, you need to put your URL in the path of your customers. The best way to do this (without blogging on your own site and using the feed generated by the blog) is to DEFINE your market, DETERMINE where those people are spending their time online (trust me they’re all on Web 2.0 sites as you read in the Stampede Secret’s research), then DEVELOP your presence on that Web 2.0 site.

To sum up, Web 2.0 Marketing is all about building trust, helping out, positioning yourself as a friend or an authority and doing all that in the right places on the right sites.

I’m going to leave you with that for a moment. This is only the beginning of our conversation. I will carry you right through to making the decisions necessary for your most effective Web 2.0 marketing strategy and see you get started. But first I wanted to make sure the ‘basics’ of Web 2.0 make sense to you and that you remain dedicated to your initial plan on selling an ebook on affiliate marketing without blogging on site.

Write back your thoughts – your questions – a change in plans if you make them and we’ll move onto the next steps in my next email…

Thankfully Tony bowed out of his online business idea – to sell a product on a mini-site with no further effort and no experience on the topic. Hopefully he will re-write his business plan to something that suits him, understanding that any business requires risk and effort and most especially in 2007, authenticity.

For my readers today, let Tony’s email above be a warning! Thousands of sellers are selling products on topics they don’t have a clue about – although it may be okay to buy a product from them, you’d never want to ask their advice in followup as it may not be of the highest caliber.

Could you imagine buying a book from Tony (in the example above) on making money every month with affiliate programs and then going to him for advice on which products to promote (given that he’s got no experience doing it)? For that matter how about asking him how to get traffic to your affiliate website (given that he thinks a $19 piece of software could deliver the traffic)?

It’s no wonder that social marketing has taken over the internet – it’s the only ‘game-free’ system (for the most part) that buries the fakers of online business.

Be true to your interests, allow your personality to show online, and by all means be authentic!

Just received an email from online marketing trainer Ken Reno regarding his brand new software including master rights and sourcecode.

Software That Automates A Process

Now usually I’m keen to sell this stuff, promote this stuff, use this stuff and make a few bucks off this stuff….

But it just smacks of auto-spam, like MySpace automation add-a-friend, that has a shelf life of a few months and helps get your accounts suspended.

Apparently that’s just what it’s for – spamming.

Don’t believe me? Take a look at my inbox this morning. I’ve had a YouTube account for 6 months or so (didn’t use it much because I’ve been doing all my video marketing at Video.Google.com) so I’ve never ‘worked’ my YouTube account to make money or get video views. I just created it and ignored it.

Yet this morning I wake up to 15 ‘friend’ requests from strangers! “Let’s share videos,” or some other related garbage these ‘friends’ wrote…

If this is happening to you too, all of a sudden you can log into your YouTube account and turn off the email feature that allows <del datetime="2007-06-17T16:23:59+00:00">idiots</del> strangers to spam you.

A Marketer of Integrity, Too?

Past all the YouTube spam is a message from Ken McCarthy regarding YouTube. Ken is a marketing trainer that I’ve admired for years as being a man of integrity, a man who assists people to build real businesses online and not just spammy money making websites…

So when his email was lumped in there with all the YouTube crap of the day I was shocked!

Of course Ken was talking about a completely different aspect of YouTube and some damn fine reasons to stop marketing your videos and product showcase and/or having YouTube videos showing on your own site…

My biggest concern is his second point:

“Viewers can scroll through and view related videos right in the YouTube-provided player without leaving your web site.”

(explanation: “…allows YouTube to, in essence, highjack your web page and turn it into a YouTube platform.”)

If these two snippets don’t alert you to the trouble brewing click over to Ken’s entire post here. Ken explains video hosting away from YouTube quite eloquently.

When you get there and read the comments keep your glasses on – you enter the realm of competent marketers who will be sharing and promoting affiliate-driven alternatives.

The YouTube Lesson of the Day Here?

Watch your back, watch your sales process and protect your inbox from the new YouTube spam software.

Talk to you soon,

Okay so you already know that I spend a lion’s share of my time online reading, testing and reviewing products and strategies that pique my interest and sound viable. And that the thrill of Web 2.0 is what turns my eye.

You may also know that I don’t post here very often unless I’ve found something that actually (a) helps you with traffic, (b) helps you with making more money online, or (c) teaches you new strategies for either of those.

This week wasn’t the best time to take on a review…

I’ve been volunteering at the local schools and graduations are on the horizon – I’ve more than my hands full, but when chatting with a fellow internet marketer (Luke) in email he began to unravel a strategic plan he had just started showing others – a strategy he’s been perfecting for months and that his members were already succeeding in – people who’d never managed to make a dime online before…

Usually that stuff turns me off but the mix of Web 2.0 techniques in the strategy got me excited enough to take time out and read it.

The story goes that once I had it on my computer screen I could neither stop reading it (only to wander around the house chewing on the strategy bit by bit), nor return to my obligations — without first logging into the member’s area to see what goodness was stacked in there.

The member’s area was as good as the PDF. Actually I’d say it was better because the part of this whole “fast money, residual money, subscribers, affiliate sales’ system that I love is the tag-team (aka circles).

And THAT is when I realized I had to write about this. Because no one else is disclosing how they’re turning out twice the gain for 1/2 the work – and believe me most internet marketers that have found ways to do this – but they’re keeping it to themselves.

I know for a fact that Luke was even apprehensive about sharing it and even though he knows that sounds like marketing hype he has no qualms being honest about it. I would have wrestled with this too – “Should I share it with the world or should I just keep working it?”

The strategy lends itself to fast income, more traffic, residual income, and increase in the value of any site you own. Period.

Luke refers to it as ‘Web 2.0 Chess’ as if it is a game, but in fact it is much more than that…especially since you’re not playing alone and because the moves are already laid out in an easy to follow system.

Now I don’t want to give away all his secrets here (I couldn’t anyway he’s got a 67 page pdf and an entire member’s area devoted to the variety of ways you can play this)…

But at it’s simplest, Luke’s strategy is a fast-step knock-out punch that gets the maximum benefit for the least effort. (No, it’s not selling hosting accounts or health products or anything you’ve likely heard before…)

What will you need?

1. First, you have to be an American resident. (I’m raised in Massachusetts but living in Canada right now…and I’ll still be working this strategy anyway – you’ll see me shortly in the member’s area because this is too good to let a physical address hold me back!)

2. You need to have at least one website or blog. And yes you can do this from blogger or a free wordpress account or Squidoo pages, but promise me you’ll get your own domain after you get your first check… Can’t create a website or blog? Luke’s got you covered – see the member’s area.

3. You need Luke’s report and member’s access.

4. Time. One hour to read the report. One day to let it mull around in your mind (and realize that it’s very simple to get started). One to two hours to get your feet wet and implement. Then I suggest you devote 3 hours a week to keep the value flowing…

There’s nothing left uncovered.

Or anything that you might need help with that isn’t already, or won’t be, supplied.

Luke and the others are there to answer questions, help out and hand over any tools should you need them.

I’m worried this email reads like a sign-up-join a-team-and-recruit oppurtunity. I would NEVER recommend something like that to you – but there is a team (rather a ‘tag’ team) and in this Web 2.0 world you NEED to be on a team to get and stay on top.

There are a ton of great tips in the PDF – stuff I have yet to hear the gurus talking about…

see page 29 (section 5b) for the fastest way to get your newest pages into Google’s index (I haven’t even been using this to full capacity!)

see page 32 for the most recent ping list

see page 45 for a better spin on the StomperNet tip I gave you last week (makes you more, therefore makes much more sense!)

see page 46 for the fastest ways to get your newest pages into Yahoo’s index (without that nasty pricetag)

and page 55-56, the strategy to get double the results with 1/2 the work…

At any rate, read it all and start right away.

And before you think a strategy and tag-team like this costs more than you want to spend, it is NOT a monthly membership fee (although I am trying to talk Luke into that because it’s worth it), nor is it an expensive product.

You owe it to your income and traffic to be a part of this….

I’ll see you, as usual, at the top!

Laura Childs

p.s. once you’re in you’ll find me under the username ‘smartzville’ – I’ll be there helping out as a fellow member…

p.s.s of course you can always leave a comment and expect a reply if you have questions…

p.s.s.s You may hear in the forums about Luke’s affiliate contest. It’s important that you know that I am not using the contest links he’s provided to his JV partners. I am not telling you about this product to win a contest – I am telling you about it because I believe in it.

A while back I talked about how to use video content to get more traffic, page rank and search engine positioning to your blogs or websites.

Today I want to talk to you about using that same video content to earn money online.

How much money?

We’re not talking small-potatoes-split-the-adsense-click revenue stuff here. You could make up to $400 per video, $2,000 for flash animations, and you can even make money with your photos.

All content has to be original, of course, and there are other stipulations on the content (mostly dealing with copyright, but also regarding popularity of your content).

Got Video?

The types of video that could earn you money are numerous – but these wouldn’t be the advertisement type disguised as a how-to. No, these videos are entertaining, expose, or truly valuable tutorials that people rate, vote on and share.

If you own copyrights to such content check out these sites:

Break.com – seems to pay the most right now, has an alexa ranking of 310 and Google PR of 6. You can also use Break.com to host your videos and have them stream into your own sites (saving you bandwidth).

Second choice is up-and-climbing Lulu.tv with an innovative revenue share model. Here’s how it works: 80% of all ad revenue for the site goes into a pool every month. At month’s end all shareholders receive their ‘take’. Lulu uses this example: If their site videos attracted 1,000,000 viewers and you got 10,000 of those viewers that’s 1%. So you get 1% of the cash pool. They state that this month the pool is 5,000 (1% of 5,000 is 50).

What’s not clear here? What Lulu means by ‘you get’ those viewers (your video attracted an ad view? an ad click? a user account? what?) and what currency are we talking – I’d definately work much harder for 50 pounds than 50 dollars, etc. LuLu’s FAQs are not clear. However Alexa tells me that their traffic rank is 77, 875 (a wild guess suggests 1,000-1,500 uniques a day).

Flixya.com was another one worth mentioning, but the rewards program has been suspended until further notice but once offered prizes such as nanos, psps, and even MacBook Pros.

At the moment you can still make a cut on the the Adsense revenue share (which really doesn’t make any worthwhile use of your time given that you could earn so much more for your efforts elsewhere). Better news about Flixya is that they are about to release version 2 which will include personal spaces and a 100% Adsense revenue share. With an alexa rank of 14,489 and a PR of 6 on the home page there is potential for bringing some foot traffic to your site. (It is unknown at this time whether the new version will employ ‘nofollow’ tags.)

If these three don’t appeal to you, below is a list of video hosting sites that have varying revenue share options (while we all continue to wait for YouTube to get it’s act together on this).

Finally, there is a great conversation on TechCrunch about this right now (TechCrunch currently has javascript errors on their site so you may need to refresh their page twice to view the article and comments).

List of revenue sharing video sites:

MetaCafe

www.revver.com

www.eefoof.com

www.nelsok.com

www.filmaka.com

I’m certain there are many more. If you know of any – that offer excellent rewards, prizes or payouts – please share them with other readers in a comment.

Today I let the cat out of the bag about one of internet marketing’s best kept secrets…

It’s a site that is in Alexa’s top 22,000 (which is a pretty decent place to be!) for traffic. As comparison, Dr. Joe Vitale’s website is only 32,000 and it’s been online about 10 years.

The beauty of this traffic secret is that not many are using it to it’s full potential because it sure does get the readers!

Back to what I was saying…

I let the cat out of the bag, I told the world about how fantastic this site is for passing PR, supplying a fresh targeted traffic stream, and just generally being a fun place to visit (for internet marketers).

And wonder of wonders the site owner sends out an email that reads: “Stop Using PlugIM” (his site).

I thought for a moment he wanted me to stop sending him more traffic! Turns out he just wanted to talk about a new book he was reading…

Here’s the rest of his email (I hope the next message Ryan sends me doesn’t say “Stop Publishing My eMails”

You need to stop using PlugIM, or any other source of so called “Web 2.0″ traffic generation methods, until you’ve read this.

A fellow PlugIM member, Laura Childs, has put together one hell of a resource for leveraging the power of social bookmarking and social networks to drive more traffic to your sites.

It was released today and I’m reading it now. It’s over 50 pages of information, research, theory and data that Laura has put together over the last year.

I highly recommend picking up a copy. Find out more about “Stampede Secret” here:

http://www.plugim.com/stampedesecret/

Look for the latest edition of the PlugIM newsletter in the next couple of days. Thanks for your continued support!

Ryan ‘Dravis’ Knowles, http://www.PlugIM.com

Here’s a new traffic resource for you…

But before I send you there, and since I never blindly recommend resources, there are a few things I need to tell you first – to ensure that your time is protected. I’m very protective of my time so you can bet I take the same considerations with yours!

If you’re on any internet marketer’s list they’ll likely use the pre-written email that says “this will work for years to come” and “includes every important Web 2.0 social marketing tactic and website that you could ever want to know about and use to bring in traffic through social marketing.”

Don’t believe it for a minute.

The content will not stand the test of time since Web 2.0 sites are being discovered daily and can hit the top traffic charts within a month’s time (making the ebook outdated within weeks of release).

Web 2.0 traffic techniques are in their infancy. They require a unique approach to make a huge difference to your own site traffic.

I invite you to grab the link to the ebook, as well as learn what’s valuable and what’s not about it, and how to protect your time when you begin to employ these strategies at Free Web 2.0 Traffic ebook

This will take you five minutes to read my assessment and download the ebook, but might save you hours in the long run…

Leave me a note, or ask any questions, via comment or contact form, at any time.

As always,

Laura Childs

p.s. The Stampede Secret has been heavily hit by traffic this month so if the link above does not load for you right away, grab your Web 2.0 traffic ebook here, then stop in at: http://www.stampedesecret.com/web20/smart-web20/ in a few hours to get my honest assessment.

The next big thing that’s happening right now, is all around us…

As Web 2.0 has finally arrived, the types of sites we need to create to reach our market or maintain our necessary traffic levels, has changed with the times. Our internet surfers are more demanding, much more savvy, and are predisposed to boredom.

I strongly suggest that now is the time to start building websites that will come to be authority sites in your niche markets (if you haven’t already begun). If you already own a website or two this doesn’t mean ditching what you’ve got and starting from scratch. Oh no. You can turn any existing domain into an authority site with just a little knowledge and effort.

So What, Then, Is An Authority Site?

Jason Dowdell of Global Promoter defines authority sites as: “…sites that have been linked to and referenced on other web sites covering the same subject matter and they also will have hundreds if not thousands of pages covering that subject matter and nearly every facet of it…”

Sounds like a pretty tall order…but there are other, easier ways to understand authority sites.

The Components of an Authority Site

If you look at the diagram below you’ll see the elements and processes that go together in building, owning, and marketing an authority site mapped out in an easy to follow format (I know the image is small but in a moment I’ll show you where to get one that you can print out and paste on your bulletin board with all the documentation you need to assist you – for free).

It’s important to note that authority sites do have a few things in common. Most importantly is ‘value to the visitor’. There is not one authority site that receives oodles of traffic and sales that was built by a spammy piece of software that creates pages of links. Remember that – “value to the visitor”

Get Started On Your Own Authority Site

The easiest way to start building an authority site on your own is to draw up a plan (similar to what you’ll find in that diagram above) based on your target market and start getting traffic to the site. Over time, create subdomains for aspects of your topic or closely related topics.

If it sounds like a lot of work, that’s because it is. And sites created to generate decent incomes aren’t created overnight (well, okay, they were in the old days, but Web 2.0 will have none of it and trying to make a living like the old days in this new age won’t work).

The deeper I get into this topic the more I realize that I can’t tell you everything you’ll want to know about this, in a blog post. The in-depth information (with the diagram and examples) is contained in a 20+ page pdf file that you can grab here (free).

Get your copy, have a read through and feel free to post questions or comments on this below.

If you need help or clarification I’m here for you.

“The uproar and popularity contests started with Amazon and eBay, then slowly moved into what we now call Web 2.0.” – Laura Childs

It’s very important that you quickly gather and understand as much information as is available, as soon as you can because the shape of what’s already transpired – and coming still – will be the new definition of online success for the small business or solo entrepreneur.

And I fear that many will fail – returning back to their 9-5 jobs with little to show but skepticism about making money online and a load of debt from buying products that employ techniques that no longer work in this new Web 2.0 world.

This isn’t a fear tactic in play. This isn’t even a product pitch. Actually I’ve got nothing to sell, unless it’s to sell you on this idea. And I must do my job and get you hooked on the concept because your success is at stake here.

Let me explain…

Two celebrations happen in our home this week. My daughter turns 13 and I celebrate my 10th anniversary of working online from home. In those 10 years I’ve been sucked in, scammed, befriended, sleepless, and successful. But we’ve never struggled and we’ve never gone hungry.

Now I’ve never been quite so personal with you, I know.

There’s a reason why I am being so today…

I need you to stop running the treadmill.

Stop paying for traffic that doesn’t convert.

Stop buying and reading ebooks on how to successfully write and sell ebooks. One is enough.

Stop buying into monthly membership websites that teach how to build a lucrative membership website.

The rules of success online HAVE changed.

The research shows that surfers aren’t using the web the way they did even a year ago. So why on earth are we all still buying up products and services on how to make it online that were written last year?

(This is precisely why, in October of 2006, I pulled two of my most successful products off the market even though people are clamoring for them still…)

Now I know this message isn’t an easy read. And I’m sad to report to you that I don’t have a fast and easy fix.

But I have been working hard at assessing where we’ve been (after 10 years that’s not hard at all), what’s hot right now, and how to use that knowledge to keep you and I both on the path to success.

In essense, I’ve sifted through a lot of useless info that won’t do much more than waste your precious time.

I’ve also found a lot of great stuff and I’d be pleased to share it with you – to get you further along the path to success, quicker.

I can’t let you fail at this. I have a personal responsibility to you as one of my loyal readers.

Actually it’s been so long since I’ve written, you quite likely have already forgotten me. That’s alright, it was the chance I had to take when I began compiling the information I wanted to one day share with you.

Below you will find a few links to some posts I’ve made about Web 2.0 on my other site about blogs, rss and the new web 2.0.

Stop in and catch up on what’s shaking and shaping the web and how you can benefit from these new trends.

Laura Childs

p.s. I might add that I don’t mean to talk you out of buying other marketer’s products unless (a) they’re very new and teach new techniques, or (b) you’re very new and haven’t learned the basics of website creation yet. My only intention was to say that you don’t need 5 ebooks on writing and selling ebooks, 4 swipe files on copywriting, 3 membership sites with resale rights…you understand.

Alot of readers are struggling over this whole Web 2.0 topic, so I thought I’d better clear the air and leave some helpful information here.

The term “Web 2.0″ was originally coined by O’Reilly media back in 2004 based on their predictions and trend reporting on where surfers spent their online time and what internet users would want next.

Web 2.0 is a broad term that relates to some relatively new ways to seek and spend (time or money) online.

If you’ve been online as long as I have you’ll remember that there wasn’t much to look at back then and every login (at least my sessions) began with a search engine hunt. I’d start at yahoo, type in my term and hit all the sites that resulted for research or education (there were not millions of results back then). Within an hour you’d be done and disconnect.

Women can relate to these old ways in this manner: you go to a new shopping mall and peek inside or browse every store in the mall. As you move through the stores you’re collecting data – something that your sister would like, something you’d like to save for, a great shop to visit before Christmas, or even never go to that shop again.

The internet grew and so did it’s user count. Junk websites abounded, search results became less relevant, more hours were spent to gather the same quality information that you could grab in an hour (if it even existed).

But not only has the number of pages and sites grown, not only have the numbers of surfers grown, but we as individuals have changed. Most of us have begun the journey of understanding that our tastes, preferences, ideas, class, etc. define us. As such, we become frustrated trying to learn about something from a site created by an unlike mind.

Now if that’s not enough to send you off this post I don’t know what is. I will try to rewrite this for clarity later, but the gist here is that…

“We have learned that we can find easy-to-digest knowledge, that is applicable to our purposes, without all the painful searching and re-searching…if only we could just find someone who ‘speaks our language’. Which seldom is the case when we surf by search engine results.”

Let me give you a personal example…

I’m a business woman 1st, an internet marketer 2nd, and a geek 3rd.

I’ve been all week in research over web-based applications that will assist me in the creation of a social networking site. (Not like myspace or 43things, I’ve got something different in mind.)

The sites that google serves up for my search terms are developer’s websites, programmer’s forums, all written in some kind of geek language that makes little sense to my business woman’s brain. Frustrating as all get out – even for a part geek like me!

The showcased scripts and applications, software and dedicated server languages seldom list a full set of features with working demos and talk of what is to come.

These sites are only of minor assistance because they’re not ‘speaking my language’. Without a marketing mind behind the software I have no idea how each one will integrate with my marketing efforts, serve or attract my target market, monetize my efforts, etc.

I need ‘like minds’ speaking to research my options fully and from that make an educated decision.

That is precisely how we’ve changed as internet users. We’re looking for our clans, our peers, our social equals and it’s all showing up in the sites we frequent!

We aren’t always interested in commenting or sharing our views, but we are certainly interested in reading like-minded others’ thoughts, training, and recommendations.

We’re hunting for people with the same personal goals (43things.com), people with the same interests (cafemom.com), people in the same profession (linkedin.com), and so on.

Web 2.0 is all about online collaboration, the sharing process between users (you don’t have to share to be in this ‘club’, intake of information is, after all, a fractal piece of any collaboration), and the services that facilitate the new way to spend time online*.

That ‘sharing’ began with public bookmark lists (social bookmarking) – “Here are the places I frequent. If they resonate with you, then you’ll want to check out more of those places.” (see deli.cio.us)

The next big wave was social networking – “Here are my friends, favorite music, photos, goals…” (see myspace, flikr, 43things).

I will continue to discuss Web 2.0 until it becomes clearer for you in future posts. In the meantime visit some of the sites within past paragraphs and get a taste for yourself.

As always, leave me notes, questions, or comments below.

Yes, and some recommendations if you’re already running your own social network site with a script that integrates articles, reviews, cards, images, videos, audios and IPN.

Thanks for being here,

Laura Childs
www.smartzville.com

p.s. I’ll say it once more, “to date the best training you can get on understanding and creating 2.0 sites is here“.

—————————–

*I highly suggest setting aside an hour or so and surfing through descriptions of Web 2.0 sites who are already seeing the joys of being ahead of the curve at http://go2web20.net/

It will take you hours to read through the description of each (click on any logo for a short description on the right pane) but doing so will give you a strong understanding of what classifies as a Web 2.0 site.

If you don’t have hours to browse (boy do I understand that!), then use the search tags and search for sites that are meeting your current target market with their trendy innovations. Now you know what you’re up against in the coming months!

I will warn you, the site is a little clunky at the moment, but an upgrade is in the works to improve speed and tag browsing.

It’s Saturday evening as I write this to you – just 12 hours+- before folks around the world herald in the New Year with goals and hopes for 2007…

And even though I’m loathe to write much over the holiday season, I did want to talk to you a bit more about Web 2.0 and how you can benefit from the changes that are upon us.

TRAFFIC! The lifeblood of any online business.

Web 2.0 has already started changing the face of website traffic – where your visitors come from, and whether they’ll be spending, subscribing, or leaving your site in boredom.

Last week I disclosed to you one of my earlier Web 2.0 traffic techniques (if you missed it, see Web 2.0 traffic technique).

Then I sent you in the direction of a group of respected marketers who are teaching us to use 2.0 sites to send oodles of visitors to your existing site(s).

The audio and transcript is still free if you want to check it out again – see Web 2.0 traffic interview.

BUT…

What’s missing here is an in-depth and thorough explanation of Web 2.0 – with an explanation of why it’s taking over the internet.

I CANNOT stress this enough.

I was singing about Blogs and RSS feeds in the summer of 2004 with ‘The Stampede Secret’ (now removed from the market) and clients who paid
attention reaped the rewards.

This year I’ll be singing and sharing about 2.0 traffic and sites (not limited to, nor does it even require, tagging and pinging), as well as creating a few of my own 2.0 sites.

AND I do hope you’ll join me in this revolution because the ‘other side’ is loaded with rewards.

If you want a leg up on understanding 2.0 and/or how you can create your own sites that will appeal to the new, more demanding, web surfer,
let me tell you about a great read I’ve just finished!

The main manual is 150 pages, but it’s written so well you’ll soar through it. Plus two bonus reports, and finally secret blog access to watch ‘over the shoulder’ from conception to launch of a real 2.0 site! And the price is laughably low.

Definately my top choice of 2006.

Prepare yourself for 2007 and check this out now (I don’t know how many clients will be allowed access before he pulls down the last bonus).

Build a Web 2.0 site

Enjoy the last days of this holiday season, and I’ll see you again in 2007 (hip hip hooray!).

I’m excited about the changes to come and I hope you are as well,

Laura Childs
www.smartzville.com

p.s. Yes, throughout next year I will be sharing more of my 2.0 traffic secrets, but little will prepare you better than to watch a 2.0 site being born beginning with the idea. Don’t wait until it’s too late to learn about this…Learn to build a Web 2.0 site.

—————–

(edited February 12, 2007 — The other offer, on Web 2.0 traffic, is ending soon. The free interview will coming down and the price of the package doubling. This is not my product so I have no control over pricing or free content availability but I am telling you, get it now before it’s gone for good or so expensive that you’ll kick yourself for waiting: Web 2.0 traffic interviews.

Web 2.0 made easy. Read my latest Web 2.0 traffic technique - it's geek free and works like gangbusters to drive highly targeted traffic to your online business!
Subscribers Get An Early Start on Website Traffic Strategy is a post from: Make Money Online by Marketing Your Business

Earlier I emailed my loyal subscribers with one of my favorite ways to get a free traffic flow of predisposed or prequalified visitors to their websites.

I thought you might like to know as well, since you’re here and loyal in your own right. (Gosh I hope you’re loyal and visit often to see what’s new!)

My Christmas gift to you is one of my biggest secrets – instant traffic to new sites without pay-per-click fees.

Believe me I know this sounds impossible, but case studies prove it…

It’s not some automated software tool, and there’s no cost. It’s Web 2.0 made easy.

You’ll actually need to put some effort into it, but the return on time is well worth it and I’ve got my own set of results to know this works in spades!

It doesn’t stop as a simple traffic generating strategy either. This is also a page rank sharing strategy that I’ve kept under my hat and only shared with close friends long enough.

The strategy has survived one major google update and has brought me plenty of traffic in a number of niches…

If you’re real savvy you’ll quickly figure out how to work this for the best results but if you need a little extra help I know of only one group of marketers who are even discussing, much less disclosing, their own secrets on these Web 2.0 techniques (and they’ve let the cat out of the bag in a free report – I’ll show you where in a minute….)

This is a completely non-geek strategy.

You write a few paragraphs about what you want to do or have already accomplished in life, and share it in a thriving community. People with similar desires, interests or goals end up reading your entries and following your links.

If you’re clever (and I know you are), you’ll post your paragraphs on high traffic pages (preferably with page rank) and you’ll link to your own web pages within those paragraphs.

Let me give you an example of the strategy and where I’m employing it…

This PR4 page: http://www.43things.com/things/view/92172 is all about people who want to make money blogging.

Two months ago I wrote an entry on that page that provides a worthy and helpful link to inexpensive hosting…

People follow, I make an affiliate commission.

Search engine robots follow, I get some ranking points.

I’ve just outlined the simplest of strategies you can employ with 43things.com

There are more, many more…

CONSIDER higher traffic and ranked pages – over 11,000 real people on 43things want to write a book. It’s on a PR6 page.

CONSIDER people who need help – 2,485 insomniacs are looking for ways to get more sleep on a PR5 page.

CONSIDER markets related to your own sites – 11,176 people want to fall in love on a PR6 page. Can you help these people with a product or link to a service? You’ll find them (plus all the others who visit this page but who don’t write or register, at 43things.com/things/view/33

If you see the value of this through my simple secret then you’re all set to start making sales, commissions or getting great backlinks right away.

If you don’t see how this benefits your business then it’s time to go back to web school to refresh your knowledge on target markets, keyword research, and more importantly how the internet is changing.

Talk of Web 2.0 isn’t some scare tactic I’m hitting you with – I’ve been working online for 9 years now this January. If you want your business to survive and thrive you need to take this seriously, and get the knowledge you need.

I’m prepared to publicly predict that we’ll see a lot of the old-timers, who think they’ve got www business all tied up, go down with the coming changes. This will open the doors wide for those who are ready to “ebb and flow with Web 2.0″

May you be one of them!

Truly dedicated to your success,

Wow!

Social Bookmark Marketing Is One Hot Topic!

When I sent an email out to my website marketing list two days ago I had no idea how popular the topics of social proof for websites, traffic from tagging, or the power of back links, would be. It seems the online business world is more than ready to get some really good information on Web 2.0 sites and traffic from those sites.

“Sometimes I’m just in my own little farm world – assuming that everyone already knows this stuff…”

So I was more than a little shocked when so many wrote me back asking for clarification on social bookmarking as well as having tagged pages from Technorati and other popular bookmark sites.

So let’s clear up some confusion about tags and social bookmarking okay?

Social bookmarking (aka page, site or image tagging) is the process of using a web service to keep track of your personal bookmarks. The difference between using your browser’s bookmark list and an online bookmark service is that the online version is public.

Online bookmarking sites include technorati, del.icio.us, digg and many others. I won’t get into the reasons why these sites have become so popular by humans and search enigne spiders alike – just trust me on this one – it’s hot.

Now, from an SEO standpoint YOU will want YOUR web pages and urls listed on those sites for the following top two reasons – backlinks for positioning and visitor traffic from surfers.

And that’s what Sean Wu’s course is all about…

Sean’s course – mentioned in my Wednesay email – is unfortunately named after a now nearly defunct technique. And THAT made everyone’s radar go way up…

I hadn’t even considered that people would make those types of assumptions without knowing anything about the topic, about Sean, or for that matter not even having read the content.

You should read what some people – respected experts even – are saying and the comments left on Sherman’s blog. Pretty sad when you think about it – to bash someone’s product and technique on heresay and assumption.

And those that aren’t complaining about the product (of which they haven’t read) are whining about the price. They’re saying “This information is available freely elsewhere.” Ummm, no it’s not. Sean’s research and time on 2.0 techniques created that product. His testing and tracking shaped the content. Then he went to work compiling, marketing, and building up an affiliate team – all so other website owners could have a one-stop research point on the topic and an expert to confer with if something didn’t make sense.

Those price pointers – hmm – they haven’t figured out yet that time is money. If they’ve got 20-40 hours to learn from a variety of online posts scattered all over the web, try what they’ve learned, and figure out the fast way to perform the tasks, then that makes their time worth between $3.50 to $7.00 per hour. (Doing the math – Sean’s course is selling for $147)

But perhaps all that bashing and whining is to our advantage…

Because if this technique for traffic and positioning doesn’t reach the masses we’ll have it made for many, many months (perhaps years) to come.

And even if it does reach the masses we’ll still gain lots of extra traffic from learning how to do it right.

Take what he’s going to show you, don’t over use or abuse the process and techniques and you should see the results you seek. If any part of the course seems questionable then don’t do it. If you are uncertain you can post a comment below and I’ll answer – as always.

Tagging is a perfectly acceptable, when used responsibly, technique for traffic. It is no different than optimizing a web page for search engine positioning, then entering that url onto google’s add URL page.

If you still need more information on what tags and bookmarks are all about, grab this 10 page, free download on tagging. That pdf was written by a woman marketer who has also used the technique for great results.

But if you’re ready to find out how to put social bookmarking and tagging to work for you right away, head over to the full treatment on tagging.

We’ll talk again soon,
